She called it formality, he thought it was just common decency. He saw no real need to edit out part of someone's name.

"I'm not," was his answer to her question. Simple and straight to the point, though he sounded more bored by the place than bitter. "You seem to be entertained, though."

One day he wouldn't have the breath or the time to say her full name. One day.

"It's a very fun place!" she exclaimed. "There are so many stands and things to buy ... and so many games and attractions. What kind of things do you find fun, Setsuna? There has to be something here somewhere that will catch your fancy."

He will squeeze out every syllable every time. Somehow.

He considered her question for a moment. Fun, at this point, was a foreign concept to him. And there was nothing here that caught his fancy. Excpet maybe her. And the way she smiled. And the way that she--

"I have no interest in anything here." Not a single solitary thing at all. Except maybe Nothing. Got it?

Dhianeila frowned slightly. "Really? Nothing?" She felt somewhat bad for Setsuna sometimes. Knowing enough about him anyway, to the point where she knew his life didn't have much room for fun or any kind of smiles at all. Sometimes she wondered what Setsuna would do with himself once whatever conflict he was dealing with was over, much less the one they were in now.

He'd go on a fifty year intergalactic road trip with his half-alien bio-Gundam. And still not have fun.

"What's there to enjoy?" The rides bored him (he's done crazier twists and turns in his Gundam), the games only served as meaningless distractions (not worth his time), the food... okay, the food was good, but there was way too much of it (having nearly starved to death repeatedly, he hated it when food was wasted), and the souvenir stands were full of useless junk (why would he want to be reminded of here anyway?).

"Its all devoid of substance."

"I suppose this place is very indulgent," she said as she laughed. "But sometimes, so long as you don't go overboard, it can be very fun to not wonder about how useful something is and indulge a little!"
a_mere_human: (That's a shame)

He stared at her for a moment, contemplating a response. He eventually sighed, and looked off to the side.

"I can't do that." He wasn't refusing her, so much as simply acknowledging that's how he was. He couldn't just... turn off the part of his brain that saw this place for the vapid sinkhole it was.

"Maybe if you walk around a little, you'll see something you like," Dhianeila insisted. "This area is all just shops and souvenirs anyway. Though I did see a few shops with books!" Did Setsuna even like books? Worth a shot to find out. "I believe there are also some movies showing nearby."

"I've traveled most of this world already." And there was no fun to be had. For him, anyway. Most everyone else found something to amuse them, but the entire concept of an amusement park (let alone an amusement planet) simply passed him by.

"Perhaps its best I return to Stacy. There's nothing here for me." He opened his mouth, as if he was about to say something further, but ultimately decided against it. He'd bring her back something anyway, having figured that she was probably still on the ship and unable to enjoy herself as much as she would have liked. But the gesture would be rather empty and worthless were he to ask her what she wanted.

[identity profile] dhianeila.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"If you'd like..." she began. Don't think you're getting away that easily, Setsuna. "But you're also more than free to look around with me, maybe it won't be such a boring time compared to look around alone."
a_mere_human: (But when I think of her...)

[personal profile] a_mere_human 2011-10-28 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
He found himself considering that offer more than he should. Or, at least more than he normally would. But, ultimately...

"I'll pass." Not that he didn't appreciate the offer, and he liked enjoyed wasn't opposed to spending time in her company. But he'd rather spend time with her, the flesh and blood her, even if he had to keep his distance.

That's just how he was. Hanging out with a ghost of a person was as hollow an experience for him as anything else in this land.

[identity profile] dhianeila.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Of course Dhianeila didn't feel slighted or anything, knowing full well how Setsuna was. Still, that didn't mean she wished he would eventually start to soften up, even by a little. Though his consideration did say something about that. "If you're certain. But I hope we come to a planet similar to this one soon, where we'll be able to relax a bit. Perhaps-- I hope you'll find something more to your liking in the future."

His expression, for some reason, faltered slightly at that wish for him, only to return to his usual stoic impassiveness a moment later. He didn't really know why he reacted like that, though he suspected it was because that hope might never be fulfilled. It was a rather melancholy thought, to be sure, and one that he acknowledged then brushed off as quickly as it came.

"We'll see." He'd offer her that much, at least. "Excuse me," he added, in lieu of a goodbye, then headed off.
