YAMATO SECTOR

In an island area of the park is the sometimes staid, sometimes festive Yamato Sector (which seemed strangely familiar to some of the crew, no doubt). Souvenir swords? Okonomiyaki? Sunset beaches filled with the SPRINGTIME OF OUR YOUTH? Medieval warlords drinking wine from human (shaped) skulls? They're all here!

"Precisely. More specifically, it's nice when things fall into place the way you want them to, for once."

"Hn. Maybe." Tim frowned, disappointed that Zouichi was bringing that back up. He takes another drink before answering. "I just... don't. It's not in the repertoire of skills I've been trained in." Then, he asked, "And what about you? Any plans to go up there?"

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, Tim? Did you want to talk more about how it was getting hot in here? Because Nelly had covered that one pretty well and

"You need to be trained in order to do it? I admit, I'm a little surprised at you -- I thought you were the sort of person who'd be prepared for any contingency." He tipped his glass a little, letting the liquid inside slide around. "I might be convinced to. Although the number of songs I know is fairly limited."

"And I am," Tim insisted. "The pockets aren't just because I love pouches," he commented, with a vague gesture to the utility belts and straps he was wearing even then. "Voice changers, modifiers and amplifiers are much more effective than actually having to legitimately carry a tune. Bat-Auto-Tune." He laughed at his own dumb joke, then suddenly frowned, feeling like he shouldn't be detailing his gadgets to... well, just about anyone. Ah well. He mimicked the gesture with the glass, watching the other man closely. "That's what the lyrics are for. Besides, I imagine they'd have more foreign songs than not for almost anyone here, proportionally."

Admit it, Tim. You love pouches.

"I understand Auto-Tune is actually rather looked down upon. Besides, what happens if your gadgets don't work someday? Or someone steals your belt?" And this was coming from someone who loved hiding little tools around on his person. They were just usually a little more lethal than Tim's.

"I think someone's making excuses."

Only when he's drawn by Liefeld

"I never said it was an acceptable alternative," he said. "At any rate, I have plenty of training to back up my gadgets, since I know I won't always have them." He shrugged, moving to eat more, realising he hadn't done so in a few minutes.

"And it sounds like someone's trying to provoke me," he jibbed, and smiled coyly. "Why don't you show me what you've got then? I'll stay here to cheer you on."

LIEFEEEELD

"Ah, so you can sing. And I may be persuaded to give it a try. After I watch you finish your drink, of course. Not that I don't trust you to keep your word." You're not getting out of it that easily, Tim.
battorch: ([red robin] please don't break anything)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I never said that, either," Tim said, watching him while he took another drink. He frowned over the glass. "What, you think I'd try to cheat somehow, while you're distracted? I'm offended."
ext_988045: (Zouichi: serious)

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe not cheat... but creatively reinterpret the rules, certainly. After all, all those requests for clarification of terms..."

Yep, not buying it.
battorch: ([red robin] a little smug)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Those were a sign of my integrity," Tim assured, but he was having trouble keeping the smirk off his face, at this point. "I could have left the terms unclear, and used that to my advantage, after all."
ext_988045: (Default)

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm so reassured," Zouichi responded. "Although I'd argue unclear terms wouldn't necessarily be in your favor."

After all, two could play at the find-a-loophole game.
battorch: ([red robin] thinkthink)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, naturally. But would we really want to play a game of 'who's the better conman'?" Tim asked. He frowned in thought. He wasn't really sure he was feeling up to looking for loopholes anyway, as much as he wanted to. He was finding it harder to focus and he didn't find himself quite as concerned. "At any rate-- I wouldn't cheat that much."
ext_988045: (Zouichi: ?)

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd rather not play that game at all. I prefer laying my cards out beforehand." Which was why Zouichi disliked functioning aboard a ship of people that clutched secrets to their chest (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y77/havoc88/eldarhaveissues.png) like they were encrusted in beaten gold or something. He could work around it, but it did make things annoying.

Zouichi downed the last of his drink.
battorch: ([red robin] shadow in broad daylight)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing wrong with being... earnest. Or open. That's just not how I normally operate," Tim said, frowning and staring his drink down. It was pretty low, and he was starting to actually like it, but... he was still trying to play it cautious. But he had to finish. He took another swig, leaving only a small amount left. "I used to be an urban legend, you know." Hey, it was topical. And a harmless tidbit.
ext_988045: (Default)

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Zouichi set his glass on the counter, standing up and placing a discreet hand out to steady himself. Hmm. That was odd. "An urban legend? You mean like haunted cell phones and men with no faces?" Zouichi liked horror movies as much as anyone else, but... that was kind of weird.

"All right. Question time. Or song time."

battorch: ([red robin] listening)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right. 'Robin' wasn't supposed to exist," Tim explained halfheartedly. That was more a Batman thing, but still. It was an extension issue. He watched Zouichi get up, shook his head, and took the last of his own drink down.

"Can you--" he stopped. "Maybe I should save the question. I don't think I can think of a good one right now." That was... an uncomfortable feeling. He pushed himself to his feet, leaning on the counter slightly. Okay, maybe a lot. "So songs. I guess. But you have to go first, if I'm going to do this." And why did it even seem remotely like a good idea? Ah well.

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess what genres of music Zouichi knew? Classical... and enka.

So congratulations, Tim. You were getting the full version of this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4V8d7sG-yI). As sung by a Synthetic Human that sounded like this guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnMhwivc-Hk). Actually, Zouichi was pretty good. It was just... a little weird listening to him sing, that was all.

It was a song about a woman wistfully recalling the day she'd first met a man she loved... but he was married. Alas.
battorch: ([red robin] a little smug)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's an odd combination. But okay. At least Zouichi's a pretty good singer (as near as Tim can tell). He's leaning on the counter still, watching and listening (and no longer able to use this as an opportunity to cheat-- though he does order something else to eat).

Once Zouichi was done the song though, he nodded his approval, offering a "not bad."

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks." Zouichi sat down, looking at Tim expectantly.

Yep.

Expectantly.
battorch: ([red robin] please don't break anything)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Tim paused. Then said, "fine then."

He straightened up, with a little effort, before he made his way up.

So Tim did a rendition of a Green Day song because he had flawless taste in music. The length? Definitely because Tim was still a cheater. He wasn't a bad singer, but then again... it was also difficult to keep up his typical Red Robin gravel voice after drinking and while singing. Therefore, he started to slip back into his natural voice-- just slightly lower than this.

Zouichi raised his eyebrow at the change in Tim's voice -- that must be terrible for his throat. But before Tim could return to his seat, Zouichi made his way to the song selection screen, choosing a song that they should both be able to handle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIzZ20RzAG8).

Together.
battorch: ([red robin] what.)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Tim stopped short when Zouichi came up and cut him off. He looked through the lenses in his cowl at the screen and frowned deeply.

"You're kidding, right?" he managed out, still speaking more naturally. Steadying himself, he said, "But I'm not doing anything soprano."

((ooc: ... actually you know what. I think that clip is closer in tone than I first decided.))

"Just drop it an octave or two. It's not like anyone's watching or anything." Or filming. Indeed, the lounge was still pretty much empty.

"Besides, it's something we should both know."

"Hnn. All right, fine," Tim said. He could drop his voice. He did that all the time, after all. "Okay. Let's do this then." It was no big deal, right? Tim had done embarrassing things for work, or otherwise, before.
ext_988045: (Default)

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it was no big deal! And this would never, ever come back to haunt either of them!

Zouichi started off as the introduction began playing.
"In a cavern, in a canyon,
Excavating for a mine..."
battorch: ([red robin] ...)

[personal profile] battorch 2011-10-13 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Tim was a bit shaky still, waiting for his own turn, after Zouichi sang, making the effort to keep his voice a little bit lower, at least.

"Dwelt a miner forty niner,
And his daughter Clementine..."
