Medieval World!

Medieval World was one of the largest year-round renaissance faires in the multiverse.

Minstrels and bards wandered the streets, vendors sold ridiculously overpriced period clothing, jewelry, weapons, and turkey legs as big as a human's head, and the royal court mingled with the commoners. There were events everywhere: falconers, magicians, belly dancing, hypnotists, weapons competitions including swords, axes, maces, and bows, camel rides, Washing Well Wenches, fake jousting on wooden 'horses' suspended on ropes, and real jousting.

As was typical of these sorts of events, anachronicity was everywhere, as were patrons in all sorts of fantasy costumes.

Join in the fun!

[OOC: Add things if you want, and go for it!

Also, if anyone wants to win a flower for their lady from the Wenches, contact Shae for NPCing.

"Sure am," Hit Girl said, grinning. "I know I should be relaxing and all, but I can't miss a chance to test my skills either, specially against a good opponent!"

"All right," Aqua agreed, gesturing for her to come along to sign up and try the swords they had available. "I promise I won't go easy on you."

Hit Girl signed her name, and glanced at the taller woman. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Hit girl took a little while to evaluate the swords that were available, checking their weight and how easily she could move with the sword. As it turned out, the one she liked most also looked (http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A0PDoX2b2JVOQhwAWFaJzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTBlMTQ4cGxyBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1n?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dshort%2Bsword%26n%3D30%26ei%3Dutf-8%26y%3DSearch%26fr%3Dyfp-t-701%26b%3D1%26tab%3Dorganic&w=768&h=768&imgurl=www.cutlerywholesaler.com%2Fimages%2Fproducts%2Fdetail%2FYC171.1.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cutlerywholesaler.com%2F25-inch-overall-maabc-s-death-blade-short-sword.aspx&size=24.8+KB&name=25+Inch+Overall+MAABC%26%2339%3BS+Death+Blade+Short+Sword&p=short+sword&oid=5f4fd00f6e586d5541d2a6c99fc7bd7f&fr2=&fr=yfp-t-701&tt=25+Inch+Overall+MAABC%26%2339%3BS+Death+Blade+Short+Sword&b=0&ni=30&no=21&tab=organic&sigr=12lcjeoh8&sigb=13ef00siq&sigi=11s0ls0ma&.crumb=5GdnNYmIr9C) pretty awesome too!

She tested it a moment, flicking it around back and forth with her fist as fast as if she were handling her butterfly knife. Yep, this would do the trick.

Meanwhile, Aqua picked a well-balanced one (http://www.windlass.com/p-546-late-spanish-sword.aspx) that was about medium in size and weight--similar to her Keyblade.

After giving it a few experimental moves, she turned to Hit Girl. "Ready?"

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded. Hit Girl looked at the sword Aqua had picked: it was a scary looking one, one that would definitely was going to put her to work. Her's was a short sword, after all.

Which, of course, was exactly how she wanted it. She was definitely at a disadvantage, and she knew that Aqua was expert just by the way she was taking her stance. She got into a stance herself, bending her knees, walking about Aqua a moment, keeping her eyes on the taller girl. She wasn't attacking just yet: first she wanted to see how Aqua moved. She was pliable, adaptable: she could see that much from the way her feet moved. She doubled forward a moment, faking a feint, then double back and then struck straight for the body.

[identity profile] rainfell-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Aqua dodged what she thought were attacks, almost making her miss the strike toward her body. But she blocked quickly with the sword before counterattacking. Remembering her mention of using knives, she expected that she'd be more reliant on her wrist for attacks, so she made a more sweeping attack farther away from the direction of her blade.

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
She was glad to be making Aqua think: she had, after all, stacked things against her, to force herself to think more in this fight. She had, after all, experience in fighting with knives. What Aqua did NOT know was that she had also trained with a staff with a knife at the end of it. It wasn't a sword, but it still taught her how to handle herself with a long ranged weapon.

When the sweeping attack came, she danced out of the way for a moment, and then came forward with an upper body hit, quickening her attack.

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] stormfall-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Aqua had to raise her sword quickly in order to block. That was good--she knew Hit Girl would be comfortable with her picking up her speed a little more.

She made a few more attacks, some high and some to the side.

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hit Girl, despite the grunting and overhead attacks, was smiling. This was a workout, especially with all of the movement Aqua was doing. This was the only real way to unwind, she thought: putting her strength and skill to the test.

She was able to, despite her height, parry quite well. She matched the attacks and then, on her forth attack, strode forward with a direct hit to the knees.

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] stormfall-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Aqua had to move fast to avoid the attack. She leapt and flipped backwards, managing to get away with just a hit to her shin that wasn't particularly bad. Upon landing, she charged forward with a powerful strike.

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hit Girl was far from giving up, although she to admit that Aqua was quite agile on her feet. If she had been watching the fight she would admire the woman: she had a grace and skill in movement she knew she did not have. To make up for it, though, Hit Girl had strength and speed, which was at least enough to counteract Aqua's pros in this fight.

When Aqua charged with the strike, Hit Girl was quick to brace against it, wincing a little. A short sword against a longer one meant blows definitely made more impact. So Hit Girl knew it was time to change things up. She zipped to the side of the girl and, using the wall as leverage, leapt high and came down on Aqua so quickly and forcefully it looked as if she had done it three times fast: in fact, she had.

She had gotten THAT fast.

[identity profile] rainfell-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Aqua wasn't able to dodge quickly enough, and she took the blow to her upper arm. It wasn't anything too bad--a Cure would take care of it easily--but it was a good hit.

"Very good," she said. "You made first blood."

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hit Girl nodded, exhaling sharply. She knew that she had gotten good: no WAY she could have gotten a hit on this swordsman otherwise, but she knew to be on her guard.

"I train a lot," she said. "I think you're holding back a little though. I want to see more of what you can do."

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] stormfall-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Aqua quickly cast a Cure over herself to take care of the injury, then shook the lingering ache out of her arm.

"All right," she agreed.

She wasn't going to use much in the way of magically-assisted attacks, and she was going to try to hold back on throwing up barriers. But those limits didn't leave her completely out of options. She charged at Hit Girl, making a powerful strike to try to throw her up into the air.

Re: Sword fighting

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, showing what she could do did NOT mean curing herself. That was just cheating. It's not like SHE could do that when she was facing down a bunch of guys in battle. But she also never said she couldn't either, so no point in bitching about it.

Once the all right happened, Hit Girl thought she was ready, but suddenly there was a blow that knocked her hard in the air. There was a moment of being stunned (why not) but Hit Girl was not one for leaving herself open too much. She tucked herself into a ball save for the sword out, making sure she had a moment or two before she could right herself on the ground again.

[identity profile] rainfell-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
As Hit Girl recovered, Aqua rushed forward again and jumped, trying to bring the sword down on top of her.

BRING THE PAIN!

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. This was going to hurt a bit, even blocking it, which she was already going to do, short sword meeting regular sword. The result was pretty ugly: a hard clanging sound, and Hit girl feeling the bruises on her hand, groaning a little.

But she could recover, at least somewhat. The Short sword was tensed, but she was going to at least get out of this position. She hit the ground and rolled, and then brought the momentum back at Aqua, going for head shots now.

Bracing her hand against the blade, Aqua blocked the attack, feeling the strain in her wrists against the force. Managing to duck out of the way, she made a spinning jump attack, spiralling the sword around her in three strikes.

CRAP.

Hit Girl knew that the short sword could only take so much punishment. The impact of this particular attack actually knocked her on her butt pretty hard, though she scrambled back up, taking a breath a moment, then striking forward with a jump and coming down on Aqua hard.

Aqua met Hit Girl's blade, but as she tried to overpower the attack, she pushed back against her in general. The Sliding Dash was to try to make her lose her footing or at least make her blade slip.

Re: BRING THE PAIN!

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hit Girl figured she would try to do something like this, and she was lucky enough to be able to catch her footing as she landed on her feet. Unfortunately, that WAS enough to make her blade slip, and she swore as it flew out of her hand.

She could pick it up, but she figured it would break if she used it any longer, and she really liked it. She sighed, giving the girl a bow.

"I'm done, you win," she said, shaking her head.

Re: BRING THE PAIN!

[identity profile] stormfall-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Aqua lowered her own sword and bowed back.

"You're good," she said. "I had to think hard to keep up."

Re: BRING THE PAIN!

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
She walked over, picking up the short sword, checking it carefully.

"You're excellent at this stuff: even if I picked a decent sword, it wouldn't have made a difference: I would have been too awkward with it because of the size difference."

She shook her head. "But it was a good fight! My hands are still sore."

Re: BRING THE PAIN!

[identity profile] stormfall-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm glad," Aqua said. "It takes time to get used to using a sword--you have to treat it like an extension of your body. The fact that you did this well says how good you were to begin with."

Re: BRING THE PAIN!

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hit Girl nodded. "I've used a lot of different weapons. My best are one that shoot from a long range, but I can use short ranged too. I definitely know how to maintain the weapon as an extension of myself."

She grinned."Been doing this long?"
