Departmental Meeting: Security

The Precinct had a lot of meeting rooms. Dick had signs up pointing to the largest one, since there was never any telling how many people would end up at the meeting. There were chairs scattered around in a vaguely circular arrangement, though they could be moved around as people liked.

Dick himself stood at the front, omnicomm in hand and trying to keep track of what was going on. He was leaning back against a table with two seats behind it. Right now, it was just waiting for people to arrive.

"A detective in the New York City police department," Elisa elaborated. She wasn't put off by the fact that the security department wasn't actually made up of police officers. You didn't need formal training to protect, just a good heart and strength when it was needed. "What about you?"

"We don't have the supplies for proper clothes. I guess badges would be a waste of resources."

"Private detective out of Fuuto in Japan," he answers, then pauses. "And a Kamen Rider. Protected the city from monsters both literal and metaphorical."

He nods. "Yeah. More on the list of 'things that would be nice to have' than anything."

"I might not have heard of the Kamen Riders, but I know a good cop when I meet one. Badge or not."

Learning to tell the difference didn't feature in the curriculum at the academy, but it was something that you had to pick up quickly on the beat if you wanted to stay there.

"Literal monsters I understand, but how do you fight a metaphor?"

That comment got a slightly sheepish grin - isn't it his job to compliment the pretty ladies, not the other way around? Not that he's complaining, mind you... "Ah, well--I appreciate the comment, Miss Maza," he said, tugging on the brim of his hat.

He could stand to learn a bit about that - a good cop he may be, but he had tendencies to be a bad judge of character at times.

"Well. The literal monsters were caused by the metaphorical ones - the ones who created the method that caused the literal ones. Take their stuff off the streets, find the source, and then shut it down."

"Elisa," she corrected, "Or Maza. Or detective. I've not been called 'miss' for a long time and I don't want to start now."

She nodded when he explained the metaphorical monsters he'd encountered, thinking of the illegal weapons that men like Tony Dracon poured onto the streets of New York and the way that Xanatos pulled the strings while other people paid the price.

"I wouldn't say they're metaphorical monsters. They're just harder to see."

The detective pulls his hat off with a slightly awkward grin. There's a nod that follows. "Ah, okay - my apologies."

"Mmn..." His head moves side to side as he considers this, then he nods. The people of Museum, as well as some of Foundation X's operatives had devices of their own. "You've got a point. There is a fair bit of overlap as I recall, so there's not really a clear line."

"It's fine," she said, dismissing his awkwardness with a smile. It was a reasonable mistake to make. She'd corrected it out of force of habit. The formalities in her world could be different to the formalities in his world, after all.

"Or maybe the clear line is the law and it's our job to deal with the people who cross it?"

There's a nod, and he points toward her a bit with his hat. "Well yes, that's almost always a clear line. Figurative or literal, monsters that cross it must be taken care of."
