Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

It was comforting to hear. Discovering that she might be able to place her faith in those who commanded was always a help, although she wasn't quite ready to throw herself too wholeheartedly behind these leaders until she was able to either meet them herself or at least see them in action. "That will certainly be a help. A war, especially one of this magnitude, is no time to deal with incompetent leaders."

"A map of his magic? How?" Sandry had Alanna's full attention now. "Who is performing this cleansing anyway and for how long has this been going on? Thom still looks ill. Are you sure that this cleansing process is working?" Her worry for her brother could be clearly heard in her voice.

"A fact that some of the leaders in my home world might have done well to note." It was a wise choice on Alanna's part. The leaders were, in most cases, competent enough to carry out the roles assigned to them, but there were still those on the ship who opposed those in charge, and it was occasionally cause for excitement.

For as comfortable as Sandry was with her magic, it was difficult for her to discuss the magic of another in this manner, even when discussing it with the sibling of that other. "Using my own magic," she began, with a quickly added, "though I've been careful not to take on any of his magic that I couldn't keep complete track of. I am an ambient mage, which means I have an object of focus to my magic. My particular focus is in thread. Using thread that had been exposed to his magic I was able to weave a map of it." She hoped that explanation would be enough for Alanna, at least for the time being. There would be plenty of time later to betray Thom's trust. "I don't know exactly who is aiding him in the cleansing, but it has been going for some time, and it seems to be working. Time will tell." It was hard to say, and probably harder to hear, but it was true. They needed to wait and see.

Sandry seemed to have a good head on her shoulders, even if she was being rather frustratingly vague when in came to Thom's condition. The memory of Thom's fate haunted Alanna and she couldn't just let things go on the way that they were. Even without further interference from Roger, it was clear that her brother was still struggling and that was enough of a reason for the knight to continue to pursue the issue. Her twin's heath was at the forefront of her thoughts and was at the top of her priority list.

"I'd like to see this map as soon as possible," she said finally as she considered Sandry's answer. Thread magic? Maude had taught her a little thread magic when she'd been younger and now she wished that she hadn't been so frightened at the concept of learning to control her Gift, so that she might have a better grasp on all this. Still, from the way Sandry described her magic, Alanna suspected that what she knew as "thread magic" was not the same as Sandry's. She'd never heard of a mage using thread in the manner that the young noblewoman had described. "There... there must be something more that can be done for my brother's sake. 'Seems to be working' is not a good enough response for something as important as Thom's heath, especially when you say that it's been going on for a while and he still looks as ill as he does!"

She paused to take deep breath and then shifted her gaze to meet Sandry's eyes, attempting to appeal to the other woman in a different way. A part of her still suspected that something was being kept for her. Thom had been very unwilling to speak of his condition and Sandry's answers seemed to be awfully vague, only adding details when pressed for them. "Sandry, if there is anything that you are keeping from me... anything that you know that might help Thom then please tell me. There is nothing that I would not do to help my brother, just as I suspect that there is nothing that you would not do to help your sister. Please... put yourself in my shoes. If your sister was ill, wouldn't you want to know all that you could so that you could help her? All I want is to help Thom, but I need to know all I can before I can do so in the most effective manner."
