Meat n' Greet
The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.
Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.
There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.
[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

So, definitely not like a bow then. The only mechanism for a bow was to draw the string and arrow back to gain enough force to launch it. It sounded a little bit more like a crossbow, but even that didn't seem quite right.
"Well, it's certainly interesting," the young knight said softly, eying the weapon carefully. "It's definitely not a weapon that I've seen or used before. If it wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience, I'd love to see it in action when it would safer to do so. I assume that this place must have some place for us to train safely." She hoped so at least. Letting her skills falter due to a lack of practice seemed an excellent way to get herself killed in a fight. "It certainly seems large enough to have a training area of some sort anyway and if they expect us to fight then I can't imagine that they'd give us no opportunity to keep in fighting shape."

"Every army needs training," she conceded. Not just to keep them in shape, but to get them used to working as a unit. "It's a deal. Maybe you could show me some of the weapons from your world?"

The Lioness was quick to agree. "I'd like that very much, Elisa. It's only fair anyway. You teach me and I teach you, so that we both end up wiser for the experience." Even though she didn't plan to go trade in her sword for this strange weapon of Elisa's, it was always better to know more then less. Ignorance was a good way to end up very dead and Alanna was in no hurry to meet the Black God.
Turning her attention back to their current task, she asked, "How much longer before we reach the armory?"
no subject
"Here we are." Triumphant, Elisa led the way inside. She was still in awe of the vast warehouse and the array of weapons it held, but at least she was able to prefer herself this time. "There's not much choice and we'll have to be careful not to get lost, but it's ..." She broke off, then smiled softly. "It's definitely impressive."
no subject
"It's... definitely impressive," she admitted as the shock finally began to wear off enough for her to be able to speak again, her eyes scanning the room. "How do we find what we're looking for here? Is it sorted in a particular way?" Swordswoman that she was, Alanna was anxious to get her hand on a sword. She felt far too vulnerable without one.

In answer to her question, Elisa could only shrug helplessly. She hated feeling so out of her element. She was used to being in control or, at the very least, having the facts that would help her regain control at hand.
"Your guess is as good as mine. But we should be able to find something if we work together."

Her eyes scanned the shelves as they walked. "Well, then let's look. They must be in here somewhere. Hopefully, they'll all be stored together."
Along the walls were more weapons that resembled the one that Elisa had shown her. As interesting as they were though, they weren't what Alanna sought. She paused as they passed a number of small axes and stared at them for a long moment. They were the first familiar weapons that she'd seen and she was plenty capable in their use, but they also weren't her first choice in a fight if she had another option. They were strong weapons, capable of doing a great deal of damage in experienced hands, but they were also usually very heavy weapons and they weren't generally as versatile as a sword. Even these smaller ones could not match the ease with which a sword could be wielded and it would not be possible to carry as many weapons with her as she had when she'd traveled in her own world. It would weigh her down far too much, slowing her movements. A sword would be a far better close range weapon then an axe for her purposes, although she kept an eyes out for a decent bow as well. If she were to choose a second weapon, then that would be it. A sword to be used for close range combat and a bow for long range fighting.
She moved on again, quickening her step to catch up with Elisa.
Her eyes then lit up as they fell on a very familiar looking shaped weapon in front of them and she quickly made her way over to it, placing her hand on the hilt of a large sword. As she looked at the area around her, she spotted a few different possible sword options, which was helpful.
Eying the swords, she selected one that looked to be about the right size and weight for her. Technically she could have used any of them thanks to all the practice that she'd had with Coram's old sword, but ideally she wanted a sword that truly fit her so that she could wield it easily.
"Hmm," she murmured as she lifted the weapon up carefully, gripping the hilt tightly. "Not quite right. Too light." Alanna selected another of a similar size, but a slightly thicker blade. "Better." A smile crossed her face as she tested the sharpness of the blade. "This one will do." It wasn't a perfect fit, but it felt comfortable enough in her hand and the weight was right. This sword would serve her needs well.

"Good," she said, smiling, "At least you're prepared now."
Prepared and ready to face whatever the war threw at them.

She looked at Elisa fondly, happy to have met the woman. Allies that you could count on were worth more then any amount of gold or jewels and, based on what she'd seen of Elisa so far, she suspected that the woman would be just such a companion. "This experience has been a rewarding one for more reasons then just acquiring the sword. I hope that I'll have the chance to see you again during our time here."

It might have been a big ship and they might have been thrown into the middle of an entirely alien war, but a detective from New York wouldn't let a few minor details like that stand in her way.
