Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Serfs? Servants? Wow, this guy is from the dark ages. "I see. So it suits your needs. What do you mean by not requiring much in the way of life support? Do you have decreased oxygen requirements?"

Zouichi blinked at the question. How to answer?

"It has... in fact, we established a colony on Mars a few centuries ago. However, the entire colony was destroyed by a virus of human manufacture. Supposedly, there's not a single person left alive there. There was an expedition to Mars shortly before I was brought here, though."

"Ah... Mars. Yes. We leave that to the techpriests of the Mechanicum. Our Techmarines go there to learn how to minister to the machine-spirits of our wargear."

He considers the words about the entire colony being destroyed, and nods.

"That doesn't sound unusual to your time, from what I have heard. To be honest, that sort of thing still happens in my time."

Even more frequently, actually.

"...Techpriests? Machine spirits?" Erhart was making it sound like being an engineer was some kind of priesthood or something.

He nodded. "Well, seems like we have a worldwide disaster every so often, though the one that occurred right before I left was... more devastating than most." If only humanity could develop its technology without going power-mad or creating agents that were so destructive that a single mistake in their handling could threaten human existence worldwide. Wasn't that a small thing to ask?

"Yes, the Mechanicus Cult, they worship the Omnimessiah of technology, another aspect of the Emperor of mankind, to hear them tell it anyway."

He nods at Zouichi's comment, and says, "We rise and fall, constantly."

"...Your technology is a religion?"

What the what. "Things worked pretty differently where I came from, then."

[identity profile] swordofdorn.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
"True, but... all technical knowledge was hoarded by the machine-cult. While I find them distasteful, they're the only ones who understand how to make our weapons work, anymore."

Zouichi stared at Erhart for a long moment. "That's... so they hold all your technology hostage or something? And no one else knows how to put your vehicles or equipment together?"
