Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"The Ohm?" she repeated slowly. If what she was being told was true then the Ohm were her enemy. It was something to keep in mind even if she still wasn't convinced that what she was being told was, in fact, the truth. "There are more people down there? Who?"

At that, the Lioness shook her head. She'd never heard of a country called England. The knight shook her head. "No, I'm sorry. I've never heard that name before now."

"People from all worlds. The ones who lost their homes and were rescued, just like us. Your family and friends might be there, but they can't tell us who all was saved."

And that bothered Cedric quite a lot. What if his family wasn't judged important enough? His classmates?

"It's all right. We must be from different worlds, then."

"My friends and family... they're here then? At least, it's possible that they might still be safe?" Alanna asked anxiously, worried for her loved ones. If what she was being told was true, then her main concern was that the ones she cared about were safe too. "Where are they then?"

Alanna nodded slowly. It made some sense, she supposed. Well, it made more sense then a lot of what she had been told since waking. "I agree. That must be it."

"Yes, it's possible," Cedric swore, crossing his fingers that it was true for him too. Was the little Diggory family spared? He really did hope so. "They'd be in the pods, where we were. They'll be awoken at another time, but no one knows when. I'm starting to notice a pattern of unanswered questions here, has it struck you too?"

He sighed, shaking his head and staring at the window view before them. "Yeah. It's amazing, isn't it? Never thought I'd know about other worlds, and here we are. All that's left from them." It was still a hard pill to swallow.

Alanna offered a weak smile, trying to hide her own worry. If her loved ones were in that strange cavern, would it be possible to check to see if those she cared about were there? Even if they remained asleep, it would be a relief just to know that they were safe. "Thank you. I suppose that I'll just have to hope." And search for more answers, but that she kept to herself for now. Her mouth stiffened as she nodded and added, "Yes, there seem to be far more questions then answers and I find that quite worrying. Do you know who is in charge here? Perhaps they can fill in a few more answers." Someone had to know what was going on here after all. It was just a matter of finding that person.

The Lioness's eyes softened as she watched Cedric. Now that she was watching her companion more closely, she could see the pain on his own face and she felt a wave of guilt for having not noticed it sooner. "Yes, you're right," she told him gently. Amazing was certainly one way to put it, although it wasn't the first word that came to Alanna's mind. Under different circumstances though, she might have embraced the chance to learn more about people from different worlds. Worlds that she hadn't even known existed until now. Worlds that no longer existed. She closed her eyes, biting back the pain that came with that thought. "Well, we'll just have to do our best. There is nothing more that we can do except press on for now."

(OOC: I am so very sorry about how long this response took. If you'd prefer not to continue this thread then I understand. Thank you and I'm sorry.)

"I think I saw the people on command in the front of the room. They might be listed on these contraptions too."

Cedric knew that was true, and he was grateful that the others were also saying it. A shared burden was easier to bear. Teamwork would help them to win. "Right! So I'll be training. Keeping in shape, practicing defence...and whatever else I can do. So we'll find something?"

((It's fine, I saw your hiatus notice! I'm going slow these days too, don't worry.))

Alanna nodded, glancing in the direction that Cedric had indicated. That might well be her next stop. "Thank you. That helps."

The Lioness smiled, pleased that her companion seemed to have perked up a little at least. "And I'll do the same. We'll need to be at our best if we're to succeed." Still, she felt lost. As though she was wandering in unknown territory without any sense of direction and, in a sense, she was. What was expected of her? Where did her duty lie now with her homeland gone?

The Ohm. That was the supposedly the name of the enemy. The ones who had destroyed, not only her own world, but the worlds of all those around her, if what she'd been told was to be believed. They had to be stopped before they caused more damage. Even if her homeland no longer existed, she remained a knight of Tortall and she would do her duty to the best of her ability. That would never change. "We protect," she whispered firmly. "We stop the threat before it can spread further."

(OOC: Thank you. :) )

"Until the end," Cedric quietly swore beside her, clutching his wand through his sleeve.

It was what was owed, that was all. All of those people deserved the chance to finish their lives, to thrive and discover and learn. "So I suppose I'll see you out there? Wherever we're fighting?"

[identity profile] lionesschampion.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna smiled at Cedric approvingly. His spirit was strong and that was a positive. "It'll be an honor to fight by your side," she told him, offering him a small bow. "And if you ever have any need of me, then come find me and I will do all that I can to help." An amused grin crossed her face. "You don't need to wait for a fight to come speak with me."

"You'll see me before then," he assured her with a wave. "Thank you, Alanna. I'm hoping for good luck to both of us in this."

"I look forward to it," Alanna smiled fondly at Cedric. "My thanks goes to you as well. I've enjoyed meeting you and I'll be hoping for the same."

"Goodbye, Cedric," she added. "I'll keep an eye out for you. Please stay safe."
