Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"I'm sorry, Professor," Cedric apologized. "I'd like to help, but I could only manage an A in Potions. Professor Snape's dungeon isn't the best place for a Hufflepuff." Not one like him, anyway. Popular, a little arrogant, and all the things Severus Snape hated to see in young students. Unless they were Slytherins.

"But maybe the formula's here somewhere? I've heard people talking about a library."

"I have been searching for it, but without much success. The library is all stored on these Muggle gadgets, which, aside from being not terribly likely to contain recipes from tomes and spellbooks, are quite a nightmare to puzzle out," he said with a slight smile. "But Cedric, you have one very large advantage over me; your education is recent. Mine is long-forgotten, I can't remember the last time I brewed a potion."

"I'll help you if I can, Professor. There has to be a cauldron around here somewhere, and maybe we could find the ingredients. But I'll ask for help if we see someone else from our world."

He wasn't sure Professor Snape would be willing to help anymore.

"So I should head over to the magical department next?"

Even Severus would see reason and assist in this situation. Not graciously, of course, but whether one went did what needed to be done was more important than how one went about doing it, after all.

"At your own pace, Cedric. No one will begrudge you some time to adjust to all of this."

Professor Lupin was always like that. He knew how to care for a bunch of wayward students, that was for sure. That werewolf business shouldn't have mattered at all.

"I can't sit around too long, Professor. We could go down for a mission any time, right? And I can't be caught off guard again." As the last time was the reason he was a dead man.

"While that is true, the reality of matters is that we have a great deal of time to ourselves, and have some luxury to pursue private matters. You should also think about your own health," Lupin cautioned. "If you're prepared and ready to join and begin helping right away, then do so, but if not you won't be doing anyone any favors by pushing yourself too fast."

Cedric's shoulders slumped. Now that he insisted on mentioning it...it was true, he didn't feel too great. He did wonder what was left for him out here, if it was worth it, the pain his loved ones had gone through. It would be wrong to dwell for too long, but ensuring that he was stable might help.

"I'll give it a few days. By then I should know how I'm feeling."

Lupin nodded agreement, feeling that this was the wisest course of action. Cedric had always struck him as a sensible man. "If it would help, I do have one slightly home-like thing aboard the ship. Tea. My one luxury. You're welcome to some at any time."

Cedric seemed to perk up at the mention of tea, if only a little. It sounded better than everything else so far.

"Right, they haven't told us how we'll eat yet. Can't be anything good. But tea sounds wonderful, Professor, thank you."

[identity profile] myboggartismoon.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"It isn't, I'm afraid," he said wryly. "We haven't even enough real food that I can multiply it. Very rarely the ship will stop somewhere we can make purchases from, which is why I have tea."

Cedric wrinkled his nose. "So I'll miss the Hogwarts feasts fairly quickly," he deduced. "All right. Well. It's still better than the alternative." Which he would decline to speak of for the moment.

"I'll send a message when I want to sent something up. Somehow. These devices really are complicated," he frowned. "Clever Muggles."

"You will learn to use them," Lupin said confidently. After all, if he had managed, a bright boy like Cedric can do so that much more easily.
