Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

He considered the idea briefly.

"She doesn't like anybody loitering down there very much, including those who are new."

Which unsettled him, and fur bristled slightly. He would give anybody who had to take all of what awaited them in all the time they needed to finally stand up firmly and decide to head out. He looked toward where new arrivals were still slowly making their ways out.

"If anybody that we know woke up along with you, they should up here soon enough, if not already."

And yet he didn't recall seeing anyone remotely familiar amongst all the strangers that surrounded him. He frowned and kept his focus on the spilling numbers that entered the deck, keeping alert while trying hard to remain positive that this was not as grim as it looked.

"How long have you been awake?" He asked casually, curious as to why he was among the first.

[identity profile] sonofthewarrior.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
He cocked his head in thought, trying to gauge a good estimate. "Perhaps a little over a month. This ship is always moving, and does not follow nor keep record of the passing of time - day and nights, seasons much like we do on planets."

He looked down to the ground. "So not very long, compared to many others who have awakened before me. I wasn't sure if any of you were down there," he added, voice dropping somewhat the end of the statement. He had been worried that they weren't.

A month. A month that he was possibly trapped in that cocoon of sorts along with the rest of his comrades. It only felt like a second ago he was turning in for the night. "I don't understand..." He murmured to himself, trying hard to wrap his head around this new change, new wardrobe, and the fact that he may or may not see his other friends again.

All he could do was stand alongside the only one in here he could trust. He couldn't complain, at least not too much. Someone was better than no one at all. "We'll just have to hope the others are either arriving or still sleeping." There was a pause before he continued. "So what now?"

[identity profile] sonofthewarrior.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"If you were down there, Cloud, then they have to be." Cloud being there made him feel more hopeful that that was true. He had woken up alone, and tried to let the idea that it would stay that way in. Calmly, slowly, so he wouldn't falter down the line, or get discouraged because it was all up to him on their behalf.

"We are in the midst of a war," he said. "And though we are not fighting right now, we always keep ourselves prepared for it. To protect ourselves, those we wish to protect here, and for the hope of restoring what was lost. There are many things on this living ship. Others with abilities and powers that we work to hone in together."

[identity profile] makoed.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
As he listened, Cloud focused his attention on each individual present in the room. Different sizes, genders, and even species. Some were human-like and others not quite. He watched as a few reunited with those they knew while others wandered aimlessly clueless on where to go. That was him just a few minutes ago until he was joined by his friend. It seemed not everyone was so lucky, something he did well not to take for granted if the rest of his friends never appeared. At least he had one, that was always better than none.

"Then I guess that leaves me with only one option." He replied solemnly, mentally preparing himself for the disappointment that was sure to come. So as long as they were safe—cocoon or not—he would do what he could to keep them protected while fighting a war he never asked nor wanted to take part in.

[identity profile] sonofthewarrior.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded, understanding perfectly. "Mmm, that is why I've been fighting, as well."

There was also the fact that Nanaki had made some friends since waking up. He wanted to protect them, too. "If you're confused about anything, I can try to explain some things," he offered. And then he shook his head to move the collar strapped around his neck, the omnicomm attached to it much like their PHS used to be (and the omnicomms were just as hard for Nanaki to use). "You got one of these, too, right? It had a lot of information on it."

[identity profile] makoed.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I think I can figure out the rest from here," he replied softly, then turned his attention to the collar seen around his neck. "What else are they able to do?" There was also the question of where he would reside and what else lurked outside the realm deck, but that would come much later. Right now he wanted the basics of everything.

"You can communicate with others on board with it. There's a keyboard for those with fingers, but it's also able to hear your voice." Cloud could probably guess which Nananki used.

"There are also maps, so you can find your way around. And, there is a section about the enemy that we're meant to fight."

Who better to ask about the workings of the ship than someone who knew the area and was comfortable enough to talk to? This would make navigating easy.

"And sleeping quarters?" He asked while fumbling with the unusual technology of the device. It wouldn't take long for him to figure it out, but it wasn't anything he was used to.

[identity profile] sonofthewarrior.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"This is Level 5 of the ship," he explained. "We have sleeping quarters on this level, as well as a mess hall. It is comfortable enough if you need a place to sleep. There are some who have taken to living in the city on Level 4, though."

[identity profile] makoed.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Levels?" He wasn't expecting to hear that. Cloud paused for a moment to give a quick once over of his surroundings. He spent so much time just observing the other refugees that he didn't think to pause and study the ship itself. "Is there anything else about this place I should know?"

[identity profile] sonofthewarrior.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Many things."

He let out a small breath, looking down to the floor in thought, his fur bristled slightly. "This ship is not entirely under our control, and as a result many do not trust her, nor the race that used to own her. There are many aspects of this war that we are in the dark about, thus are not willing to embrace fully."

[identity profile] makoed.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"You mean the ship?" He asked quietly, recalling the voice that rung so serenely in his ear. "So we're fighting a war for someone we can't even completely trust?"

This was just getting better by the second.

[identity profile] sonofthewarrior.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Nanaki didn't look thrilled by the thought, either.

"More or less. But there is no other way to find answers, aside from sticking around." A pause. "Hopefully we will not be disappointed in them when we do get them."

[identity profile] makoed.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Somehow, Cloud had a feeling that whatever answers they received, it wouldn't be to their liking. "Yeah, let's hope for that." He added, then turned to focus his attention back to the spilling refugees in hopes of catching sight of someone.

"If no one shows up, how long do we have to wait until the pods open again?"

[identity profile] sonofthewarrior.livejournal.com 2011-10-10 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm. I'd say a couple of months-- a few months, maybe. It's ... a while. It feels like a while."

Or maybe it just did to him. Nanaki couldn't tell.

[identity profile] makoed.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it was better that he didn't ask. That sort of knowledge didn't help him at all. He didn't really have a response for it, either. Instead, he kept his focus on the inhabitants leaving while trying not to think too heavily on the ones who were possibly still trapped in those pods. Everyone.

At least ... they were safe?
