Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"It is? Who damaged it?" This didn't sound like great news. Were they all in the hands of a malfunctioning AI? Was it benevolent, or might it hurt some of the people aboard?

Atom hesitated for a moment before taking Eva's hand and shaking it. "It'm Atom! Tetsuwan Atom. Nice to meet you, Eva."

"Pirates, it seems." And the answers to that are a lot more murky.

It takes Eva a moment to realize he's said 'Atom', not 'Adam', as she'd first assume, but she shakes his hand warmly. "Tetsuwan would be your family name, wouldn't it? I don't really know how these sorts of things work."

Atom looked a little dubious. "...pirates? Space pirates?" Weird.

He smiled anyway at her question. "Yep, that's right!" It was sort of weird how no one on the ship recognized him at all. Not that that was a bad thing, and maybe it was just more proof that the people here really did come from different worlds. It was just a little strange to have everyone treating him like a little human boy.

"I assume so. I think it'd be pretty hard for them to damage a ship this size just by stabbing it with scimitars and firing cannons at it."

"Unless they were laser cannons." And laser scimitars. Think big, Eva.

He frowned a little. "Are they going to come back? Shouldn't we be worried about that?"

"But wouldn't laser cannons be more likely to be on a space pirate vessel than a regular pirate vessel?"

She shakes her head. "I don't know the details, but nobody here seems concerned about it happening again."

Atom looked a little dubious. If it happened once, couldn't it happen again? Although with him here, they probably didn't have to worry so much.

"What are you doing here?" he asked finally. "Are you looking for someone?"

"My family's around already. I just like to come see the happy reunions. Don't worry, there are very few people who never find anyone from their home here."

"Yeah... maybe it's better if they stay in there, though. It's safer. I'm glad your family's okay."

"Probably. I think they're safer, in there. Occasionally the people who are awake get sent on missions and they always come back in foul moods."

Atom's brows knitted together in concern. "How come? Are they dangerous?"

"Generally. Or...demoralizing, a lot of the time. We haven't lost many on the missions but there have been injuries and close calls."

"Oh." Atom was silent for a moment. "I guess I should help out with them, then. I bet if more people went on them, they'd be less dangerous."

She raises an eyebrow. "You fancy yourself a warrior? I mean, for all I know you are."

And yet there's something sad in how she says that.

Atom smiled a little. "Well, you know. I'm pretty tough. Besides, it's less scary to do things together than it is to do them alone. Right?"

He didn't want to make her upset. She seemed like a nice woman.

She smiles. "A true point, although I don't know of any solo missions yet. I half suspect their the ship's attempts at team bonding sessions."

"Bonding sessions? I don't know... couldn't they do it in some way that's a little less dangerous?" What was the point of thrusting them into life-threatening situations just to get them to make friends if they ended up hating the ship?

"I was being sarcastic." She winks. "But there doesn't seem to be much point we can see in them yet. Maybe down the road. The ship isn't very good at telling us what it needs."

Atom considered this. "...then I should try and go on as many as I can. I don't want people to get hurt if they don't have to."

She squints. "That's a noble goal. Mind if I ask how you plan to protect them? I guess you're hiding superpowers I don't know about."

"Well, I'm not really hiding them or anything. I'm a robot."

"No one here recognizes me, though," he added after a moment, almost as an afterthought.

She makes a 'well alright then!' face and nods. "Should they?"

"Well, you know... I'm kind of famous, on Earth," he said, conspiratorially.

Shh, Eva. It's a secret. Okay, no it wasn't.

"Me too," she says in a bit of a whisper. "Probably for different reasons. What are you famous for? Surely more than just being a robot?"

"Well, I guess that's the biggest reason," Atom said, considering. After all, how many advanced robots were there out there that were built to look twelve? Not many, and that's what made him a curiosity.

"But I guess my superpowers are pretty famous, too."
