Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Hey, I didn't say there was a set standard. But most people almost can't seem to take it all in at once." A small pause. "I guess it doesn't help that after the goo and the pods and the voices in your head, you come out to a huge group of people and a bunch of information dumps on these," he waved the omnicomm in his hand. "So it can be a little much, though. I know it was when I first woke up."

Jr. raised an eyebrow. "You've been through worse?" he asked, his voice curious. Jr. had been through ... was it worse? Maybe it was, in comparison when it came to how old he was and how close he was connected to certain things. Stacy had honestly just felt like one of his missions from Helmer. "How worse, if you don't mind me asking?"

"I'm done with the whole voices-in-my-head thing. Done with that." His jaw set in a physical manifestation of this determination.

Ash eye-balled the device as Jr. brought it to attention. He had only skimmed through it, figuring the gist of it would be good enough for now. Once he got settled in he might consider reading it in more detail in private. Ash was never one for homework.

"Bein' attacked by the evil undead thrice over, cuttin' up my possessed girlfriend, lopping off my hand at the wrist and being flung through a portal in time kinda' worse." His eyes darted around the mammoth observation deck. "Think I mighta' outdone myself this time. Last time I was awake I was somewhere in 1300 AD, as close as I could figure. What time is this now, kid?"

Jr. was used to voices in his head, but in a good number of cases they were consented voices, psychic links with his brothers. He had to agree though, when it was that unwanted it felt like an invasion. Sometimes even Jr. hated it when he'd send a thought out to his brother by accident.

His face fell some when Ash started naming things off. He hadn't expected such a ... compliant reply to a question like that. "Undead..." did he mean zombies? Jr. liked zombie movies, but somehow when it was a reality for someone it didn't seem quite as cool. Jr. tried to look a little sympathetic without overdoing it, but he didn't want to come off as some kind of brush-off. "That sounds like hell."

His gaze followed Ash's. "We're not exactly in a specific point in time," he answered. "Since we're sort of traveling through that as well as different universes. There's not even a steady track of time on this ship when it comes to days, weeks and months."

"No kiddin'. If hell had a face, it'd look like a deadite's ugly mug."

To hear that time was pretty irrelevant was kind of frustrating. There was a soft grumble from the back of his throat. "Great." Just great. "And where'd you come from, huh?"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Deadites? That's what you call'em?" Creative ... sort of.

"Me? My main residence is on a space colony-- probably around a planet you're not familiar with. I still haven't met anybody who knows what Second Miltia is. But despite having tech similar to the stuff here, we were having problems dealing with our own equivalent of the things we have to fight now."

Ash would of been fine simply calling them zombies... but that's what the crazy old wise man with the beard back in Medieval Times called them, and well, the name certainly stuck.

"No clue what that is." Military wasn't something Ash was too terribly interested in. "You mean those evil space bugs, right?"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-05 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, them. And they're not as nearly as easy to exterminate as their description might make you think."

"So what are we really talkin' about here? Something that's going to require industrial grade insecticide or the end of my chain-saw to take down?"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-06 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think a chainsaw would have more effect, but to be honest with you, probably not that much more. Some of these things are the size of ships."

It was slightly easier to explain the Ohm to a guy like Ash. After he said he said he was used to crap like this, Jr. didn't feel like he had to step around too many things lightly.

"The size of ships...?" He parroted incredulously. Yeah, no need to tread lightly with Ash. The realization would sink in once he was actually up against them.

"That's gonna' need one hell of a chain-saw."

"Well it's a good thing we can end up making'em that big given we have enough parts and time on the ship," he answered. "But that falls more into setting those up with the mech units category."
