Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Ruff snorted and laughed, "No, I mean probably not, have you checked?" She asked mock serious before laughing again, "Just kidding, but I totally thought this place was Valhalla when I got here." She tilted her horned helmet back to get a better look at him.

"Oh good," Keith lets out a sigh of relief. "As long as we're not dead, everything is okay. I'm Keith Goodman." He said with a grin and stuck out his hand.

Ruff took the hand in a surprisingly strong grip and shook it, "Ruffnut Thorston." She didn't say it out loud but her next thought was What kind of name is Keith? "Don't relax too much though, we're still in danger you know, big bug monsters."

Keith was a bit surprised at the young girl's strong grip. He kept his smile while they shook hands and tried not to wince. And what kind of name was Ruffnut?

"Nice to meet you Ruffnut. So, how long have you been part of this crew?"

Ruffnut paused and pondered that question.

"Um....well...huh." She folded her arms and looked like she was in deep concentration before finally answering, "I have no idea."

"You don't?" Keith was a bit confused and scratched his head. "Have you been here for so long that you forgot? Oh dear..."

"Well, no it's not like that exactly..." She held up her hands in protest, feeling particularly dumb, "It's just that like...how can you tell time without a real sunrise and sunset you know? Or the changing of the seasons. And I've see clocks and watches and stuff right? They don't work on the ship." She shrugged. "It's magic, that's pretty much how I explain anything I don't get."

Keith thought about it a moment, his hand on his chin.

"That's true. Up in space, there are no days to count. But there must be some way to tell time around here. Aren't there calendars?"

[identity profile] ruffntumblenut.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ruff looked at him blankly, "What's that then?" She was getting better with help from Mindy and Zetta, but there were still gaps in her knowledge, particularly when the subject hadn't come up before.

Keith raised an eyebrow and began to worry.

"A calendar is like, uh, like a book that lets you keep track of all the days in a year. They're really handy for planning things."

"OH!" Ruff brightened up, I've got a bunch of those in my Tower! But they're all on this day." She dug around in her pocket and pulled out a scrap of paper from a desk calender. It proudly declared "Friday 13th"

"They all say that. I guess it was the last day before the tower was scooped up or something."

[identity profile] sky-high-king.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay..." Keith said as he looked at the paper. "That's a very peculiar date. I guess it was an unlucky day to whomever lived in the tower."

Ruff shrugged and stuffed the paper back in her pocket, "Well...there are alot of ghosts there. Maybe I should ask one of them?" She looked puzzled as if she hadn't considered that.
