Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"You've gotta talk to the captain and the other higher-ups for the specific details." Or maybe even the Daligig ... but Jr. wasn't about to tell a kid to go talk to them after the trouble that had instantly cropped up upon their arrival. "But the Ohm-- the creatures that did what they did to us all, there's a lot we still don't know about them, but there's a chance they're a lot more advanced than a lot of people assume they are. And there's buzz about them having the means to return things back to how they were before they showed up."

And then he figured Atom might not be used to, well, things like that. "Ahh..." So he added, "There might be ... things that happen on this ship. Things that might not be a reality where you're from. So the stuff you're hearing might sound like some kind of crazy story for all you know."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Atom didn't have a great history with military people -- they tended to see him as either a curiosity or a weapon. Or both. But maybe he had no choice in this instance. At any rate, Jr. seemed to believe the story, and as far as his systems could tell, Jr. wasn't lying.

"What kind of things?" Atom asked. "...it does sound pretty weird."

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"All different things! Different powers, abilities, technologies. For me, it's also a case of different kinds of people. There are dragons and elves - and they never existed where I come from."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dragons and elves?" Okay, that just sounded weird. But there were a bunch of strange people back in those pod chambers, and Atom couldn't deny that their readings seemed nonhuman.

"Me either, and definitely not dragons..." He looked at Jr. curiously. "Where did you come from?"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me? I came from a place called the Kukai Foundation, ally to the the Second Miltian government in Miltia space." He gave atom a sheepish grin. "But I'd venture to guess those places don't sound familiar at all to you. So to put it plainly, I come from a space colony allied with a planet in a part of the universe that a lot of people've here never seen or even heard of before."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He shook his head. "No, never heard of it. But, um... why were you so far away from Earth? Did you decide to leave?"

Atom was assuming Jr. was human and from Earth, because... well, because he read as human, and in Atom's world, humans were from Earth.

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"What I just said about technologies? It applies to times, too. So compared to uh ... a lot of people, it seems, I come from a time where we've got a load of new technology. So we didn't exactly leave Earth," Jr. didn't add that that they also kind of lost Earth afterward. "But we made it out into space a long time ago."

He smiled. "Does that mean you're from Earth? What's your name?"

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm..." Well, some pretty strange things had been known to happen on Earth. Atom supposed it was possible that some time in the future, people would be born out in space or on other planets. "So that means you're from the future?"

He wondered what robots were like in the future. Were they kind? Cruel? Had they gotten closer and closer to humanity?

"Yeah, that's me," Atom said, smiling a little back. "I'm Atom. Tetsuwan Atom."

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sort of but not really. This ship doesn't really have a sense of time, so it picks up people from all different places. There might be some people with even more advanced technologies than I've got!" Though more often than not Jr. met people who were surprised and fascinated by the idea of space travel.

"Okay then, Atom. I'm Gaignun Jr. -- where on Earth are you from?"

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, guess what, Jr., you were from the future compared to Atom. So you are now JR., BOY OF THE FUTURE okay no.

"Tokyo City, in Japan. It's a really nice place. But I don't think anyone I know is here. I mean, not awake, anyway. I haven't seen anyone."

Well, if they were being menaced by giant space bugs, maybe that was for the best.

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That would actually be an awesome name.

"Japan, huh?" Jr.'d met a few people from there ... he wondered if Atom would wind up recognizing any of them. "Not everyone comes up here when new people wake up. You might see someone you know, yet."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "Yeah, I guess so. But maybe it's best if they stay asleep anyway. I mean, it sounds like it's really dangerous out here. I wouldn't want them to get hurt or anything..."

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, they'd probably think the same thing about you."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Atom gave Jr. a complicated smile. "Yeah, I'm sure you're right. My family worries about me a lot."

"Anyway, what about you?"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Me? I guess I know what you mean. But all of my friends would probably think the same thing if they were here instead of me, and I know I wouldn't want them to do it all alone. But none of'em are awake here yet, either."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
His gaze looked a little distant. "You have some good friends, huh? I hope you get to meet them again someday."

Then he seemed to recover, brightening a little. "So what do you do on the ship? It doesn't look like anyone's fighting right now."

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, same for your family." Jr. was the big kid here - definitely less frightened than kids who actually were the age he looked. It did worry him a little that he just felt this numb feeling in the pit of his stomach every time he thought about it. They could all be dead right now. If he could save them ... on the other hand, if not, the idea of him living while his friends all died. It would be a sick irony repeating itself yet again.

"We're sort of on down time right now," he answered, not skipping a beat and keeping his expression steady. "But here? I'm part of Security. We've kind of got a while structure set up."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Jr., you are the big kid. D'aww.

Atom was not a stranger to losing close friends; many of his own had died over the years, but he was still expected to keep going. Even more so now, after the events that had occurred in Thracia's national park...

He gave Jr. a curious look. "Security? What's that?"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
He prefers the term fun-sized adult. Okay not really.

"You know, like security guards! Or cops," he explained, patting one of his holsters that had a gun resting comfortably within it. "We just make sure nothing bad happens between the people on the ship while we're doing this."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, Jr., you were pretty cool. Like in the movies.

"So you protect the people here?" Atom thought about that for a second. "Can I join?"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
He did certainly aim to be like the badasses in the movies.

"I guess you can say that. When it comes to the Ohm, we all protect each other. But when we're not fighting or anything, we just try to make sure that disputes that crop up don't get out of hand."

The question got a blink and a cock of the head from Jr. "Can ... join?"

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. Can I join Security, too? I want to help protect everybody. And I can help stop arguments!"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Was this kid a kid. Why would a kid want to join Security unless it was a vision of grandeur. Let's word this gently, Jr., because one thing you hate yourself is when people call you a kid when you're clearly not.

"I uh. I mean, do you really wanna join something like that? It can get pretty sticky sometimes! Um, do you think you have any experience with that kind of thing? You know. Weapons. Using force. Whatever."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
At that question, Atom frowned a little, looking away. "I don't want to hurt people, and I don't want them to get hurt. That's why I want to join. Besides, I'm pretty tough. And they let you in, so why can't I do it, too?"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm ... different, that's why!" he admitted, while at the same time not admitting to much. "Like, seriously different. And used to that kind of stuff, I did it a lot at home."
