Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Yukio, who'd stayed near his brother (really, he couldn't trust Rin to be left alone) spoke up at once.

"We've already heard the explanation," he said with a smile. "Rin tends carry happiness on his shoulders wherever he goes. Silver linings in the smallest of things."

It wasn't exactly a lie, but he didn't need someone to mention the whole, heart-wrenching truth right here and now.

Zouichi glanced at Yukio, curious. Were these guys brothers or something? They looked an awful lot alike.

"I see. Well, I'm Kanoe Zouichi. Nice to meet you...?"

Leave it to Yukio to explain things. He had always been the 'to the point' guy that ruined a good story or a neat excursion.

Rin pointed at himself anyways and grinned big. "I'm Okumura Rin, and this is Blackie." He pointed to his companion atop his shoulder.

Blackie mewed.

"Okumura Yukio," he said with a polite nod of the head. "A pleasure to meet you."

Talk about disparate personalities. "Well, while you're looking around, if you're into wide-open spaces, I'd recommend Hydroponics or the City. There are Crew Quarters, too, if you're tired and don't mind sleeping in organic surroundings."

He motioned to the rather fleshy rest of the ship. "You know. Similar idea."

[identity profile] cobalt-inferno.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
So this whole place had the same motif? He could deal with that.

He looked to Yukio and smiled, "Hey maybe we could find somewhere you'd enjoy! A stuffy classroom or something!"

[identity profile] twin-shot.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Organic," he repeated, as if the very idea was ludicrous. "What, exactly is it composed of?" There was going to be a need for him to familiarize himself with everything he could in this place. It was a daunting and (to him, at least) necessary task.

When Rin spoke up, Yukio regarded his twin with a side-long glance, though the simple smile remained. "Yes, that would be very appreciated! With my own classroom that I would have access to whenever I needed it, it would open much more time for us to get book-work done, nii-san."

"Well, there are a couple people running classes here in the City. Maybe they'll let you borrow a room on a permanent basis." Zouichi had never really been down to the high school, but he did know it existed.

He turned to Yukio. "Cells, just like pretty much any other organic life. It has a brain and a sort of transport system and everything. There are quite a few areas where actual inorganic buildings have been transported on board, though. The City is one example -- there are a lot of buildings from 20th or 21st century Earth. Assuming that's where you're from."

[identity profile] cobalt-inferno.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Man, this place sounds more and more like--" and then the realization hit him... "Eh?! Why do I need to go back to studying here?!!!" Oh... those realizations...

[identity profile] twin-shot.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"We are from the 21st century," he replied, eyebrows drawn in thought.

So the 'ship' they were inside at the moment wasn't just a mechanical structure with advanced AI...it was an actual being. This only served to make things more complicated (not that they weren't already impossibly so at the moment). Moreover, it also spoke to them in their mind. The prospect of someone or something having access to his thoughts whenever it pleased was bothersome.

"Stacy. Does it use telepathy at all times to keep track of the crew, or only in certain situations like this?"

He was just going to ignore your outburst for a bit, Rin.

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Zouichi shrugged. "Supposedly, there are areas in which it can't monitor what you're doing... but who really knows for sure? The people on board working on the ship still haven't managed to purge it of its 'warden' personality. ...Planning to do something under the radar?"

He glanced back at Rin. "You remind me of a friend of mine. I tried telling him he should attend class, but..."

[identity profile] cobalt-inferno.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oy! Don't ignore me spotty four eyes!" Rin grabbed his brother by the collar and brought him over to him.

"Are we really going to be studying here?! Wait... does that mean we'll be here for a while?"

Okay, that doesn't make any sense to him now...

He glanced over to Zouichi and wondered if he was like Yukio. He certainly seemed serious enough... He REAAAALLY hopes that won't be the case.

[identity profile] dual-meister.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't call me that," Yukio snapped back, though the other things he had to say were interrupted when his body was jerked towards Rin. He knew his brother was too strong for him to realistically pull himself away from, so he waited patiently until he was released, then regarded the shorter twin with a glowering look.

"Yes, yes we are. Despite our stay here, if you still plan to take that exorcist exam, you'll need to continue studying and training your swordsmanship. You know what will happen if you fail." He was well aware of it, too and the prospect was terrifying.

Once dealing with Rin's bit of childishness was out of the way, Yukio turned back to Zoichi and smiled reassuringly. "No, I don't plan to; I was curious is all. Thank you for the information."

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"No problem." He glanced between Rin and Yukio curiously. Their personalities were... well, pretty different.

"You'll probably be here either until you're repodded or the war is won. Of course, I guess there's also the option of leaving the ship during the next shore leave, but you may not be able to get back home again."

[identity profile] cobalt-inferno.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
...

......

Rin turned towards Zouichi and looked at him confused.

"War?" was he involved in the war against Gehenna? Or was there a war he wasn't aware about?

[identity profile] twin-shot.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, that's why we're here," he carefully said, eyes sliding to the side to meet his brother's. "To assist in a war, nii-san--one far more dire than that of Assiah because it involves far more people. That is why you must continue your studies."

This whole situation felt like a ticking time-bomb...how long was he going to be able to keep most of the truth from Rin? He'd needed to figure something out, and soon if they planned to keep things under wrap.

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Zouichi regarded Yukio with some curiosity and a small measure of concern. This guy wasn't trying to conceal the whole war thing from Rin, was he? Even if he went around trying to shadow Rin at all times, trying to protect him from the knowledge, what was he going to do when giant alien bugs started barreling through the ship, firing on all cylinders?

"Yeah, I guess you could say that. They're called the Ohm, and they're an insectoid alien species. If you can't fight, I'd recommend trying to avoid them if you can."

[identity profile] cobalt-inferno.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wait, so there's more demons? Now bug demon alien th--...."

Well Rin didn't want to look stupid by asking MORE questions! He clenched his fist and nodded, big grin on his face!

"It doesn't matter if there's more, I'll continue training and beat them all! Aha!"

[identity profile] twin-shot.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No, he wasn't, not really. He just thought that explaining that their world had been destroyed so suddenly was a bad idea. Considering how Rin lost it during his fight with Amaimon when it involved his friends being injured, one could only imagine how bad retelling this bit of information would go.

He planned to get around to it...sooner than later.

"Don't get cocky, nii-san," Yukio said, crossing his arms. "You haven't even seen what we face yet, so it's reckless to say such things."
