Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Zouichi caught a glimpse of the distraught-looking woman with the witch hat (okay, everyone looked a little distraught, but not too many had a witch hat), and made his way toward her. She looked disoriented, no big surprise there.

"Hello," he said as he approached. "Are you all right? Do you have any questiosn?"

Maxine looked over to this new guy coming towards her, a little bit surprised, since she'd been kind of caught up in her own mind, for a moment. But he was being friendly, and making sure she was okay, so that was nice. She nodded, first, processing her questions. She did have a few.

"Hi. I'm okay, I guess. I mean, given the situation. I can't really be okay after hearing all this, but what can I do, right? But I have to ask, are our worlds really destroyed? Is everything gone? Or not everything, the guides said that some stuff was saved, and obviously a lot of people are okay, but what about everything and everyone else? There were a lot of people on my world alone and I'm betting that that's the case for most others here. And what are these creatures exactly? I was reading what it said, but it's a little overwhelming. Can aliens really do that much damage? But I guess it said that outright. Have you been here for awhile? You came up to me to answer things, so I guess that's pretty obvious, so never mind. And, um, are we really on a living ship? I've never seen anything like this before. At least not in reality, but fiction doesn't count."

Wow, that was a lot of questions. He tackled them each in turn, as gently as he could. "If you're here, then I'm afraid so -- you were picked up just as your world was destroyed. However, there may be some buildings or possessions that you can find on the ship that were rescued from your world. And of course, it's more than possible that people from your world were also picked up and placed in the pods; I know a lot of people here whose family and friends are also aboard."

"As for the Ohm... I haven't seen them destroy a universe personally, but I do know they're incredibly numerous and they can do a lot of damage. There are probably Ohm types we've never seen before, much larger than the carrier ships we've encountered. I've been here for..." he paused. "I guess this is my fourth pod release. And this ship is definitely alive. You can feel the corridors pulsing. Well, I can feel them pulsing; I don't know about you."

At least there was some good to be found in that explanation, and Maxine did her best to latch onto those positives, instead of dwelling on the worst of what he said, and letting herself get depressed. She didn't want to cry in front of strangers. "So it's possible that my friends are safe, then? in those pods or whatever they are? i thought I saw some names on the lists on the guide that I recognised, but none of my friends. But if I was saved, they should have been too, that'd only make sense. I take it we can't get them out though, we can only wait for them to wake up like I just did?

"I guess that's fair. I mean if there's a lot of them who knows what they're capable of. Teamwork, I guess. So we have to do the same then, right?" A beat. "How often do the pods open? For context. And I can kind of feel it moving a bit-- at least I could kind of feel it in those caverns-- but that's still a really weird thought. It's kind of like getting eaten which sounds really unpleasant." She made a brief thoughtful noise, before she asked, "This ship is really huge, right? I guess we have to make the best of this." She was processing the dump of info they'd received, already, so now it was mostly finer details. And verification, presumably.

He nodded. "Quite possible. But, er, if you were planning to wander around in the Pod Caverns looking for them, I wouldn't recommend it. I don't think anyone knows how many there are in there, and yes, they're in kind of a fragile state. Trying to break them out by force might harm them."

"They open..." Well, it was kind of hard to tell on the ship, but-- "Maybe around every one or two months apart? Anyway, when it happens, a lot of people gather on the deck to see if anyone they know is out."

He smiled. "Kind of like being in the belly of the whale, isn't it? A big alien whale. But so far, no one's been digested." Then he sobered a little. "That doesn't mean there's nothing dangerous on the ship, though. Some of the things stored in containment areas around here break out on occasion... and there are a handful of crew members who have made attempts to harm others. Usually others from their world. But for the most part, I'd say everyone knows we have to work together."
windwitch: (let me explain)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-01 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh. Yeah, that sounds like it'd be a bad idea. I didn't exactly count, but there looked to be a lot of those pods there, and I'm not sure I could manage to look through all of them to find my friends, not without help. And it looked like it was pretty hard to see into most of them anyway." She frowned. "And yeah, I wouldn't want to hurt them or anything. Maybe they'll get better and wake up soon. I'd like that, I know. Though it sounds like I'll have to wait a little bit before I can see that. If it's spaced out like that." But she really, really wished Courtney or King were there. Or Kara or Jay or anyone.

She nodded. "Right! Exactly like that. Like in Pinocchio. Only I guess it must be rude to compare Stacy to Monstro. But that's awful to hear. I don't know why people would be fighting amongst themselves, when there's a big threat we should work together against." She shifted, "But I'm glad it's mostly okay. It's really awful when people are fighting each other, instead of working together. So are there lots of missions and things we have to go on?"

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Whew. Okay. Looked like Maxine wasn't going to be Girl Who Spent Like A Week In The Pod Caverns, Vol. II.

"It's not as bad as it sounds. Time passes kind of strangely here, but new people seem to come in pretty regularly. Anyway, there may be people you know here that aren't listed."

In Zouichi's opinion, comparing the ship to Monstro would be pretty generous. Sure, the whale had plenty of digestive juices in there, but it was just an animal in the end. "Not everyone here was a model citizen back home. Some of them come from warring factions, or worlds in which they were mistreated at the hands of others. Or did the mistreating themselves."

He nodded. "There are a lot of missions. And most of the time, you don't really have a say in whether you go or not. ...in fact, sometimes, you only get the vaguest mission objective to tell you what you're supposed to do in the first place. Supposedly, it's some kind of destiny thing." Well, that or the people giving the missions didn't trust them.
windwitch: (surprise)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-01 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh. That makes sense. It said we were between dimensions or something, right? That's a pretty strange concept but I've heard of that sort of thing before. I can't imagine that time and space would work the same way there as they would in a proper universe. And maybe some universes have time that runs differently, so that'd be a factor too. I never really took that many physics classes though, so I'm no expert. But I hope you're right that some of my friends are awake. I'd love it if some of my team were here. Not that I don't think the people here will be nice, but still."

She shook her head, disheartened. It wasn't great to think there was fighting on top of all the awful things she'd already learnt. "That's too bad. I hope that everyone can learn to work together better, though. We should be trying to help save each other's worlds-- and everyone else's-- instead of fighting. But what, are there, like, supervillains on the ship or something?" A legitimate concern.

"Oh. Well I guess that makes sense. They're probably pretty important, right? If they're happening in the first place. So we just have to do what we have to do, or something." She wasn't sure what she thought about the destiny thing.

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
He hesitated. Supervillains were the opposite of superheroes, right? They dressed in funny costumes and participated in crime?

"There are people who would be considered villains on the ship. Or some people who just sort of fall in between what you might consider good and evil. For example, I understand Lex Luthor has something of an infamous reputation on his own world."
windwitch: (let me explain)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." Maxine blinked. "Yeah, Luthor's kind of got a bad reputation. Which makes sense, anyway. I've never met him, but there's a reason why the hero community doesn't like him much." She wasn't really sure what to think of him being on the ship. She'd never really dealt much with bigger villains or anything. Not on her own. "I'm sure it'll be okay, though. I mean, there's a lot of people here, at least."

She paused, before she said, "I'm sorry, you were being really nice and I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Maxine. Or Cyclone."

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. I can kind of see why. But like I said, for the most part, everyone seems willing to put their differences aside."

He smiled a little. "Don't worry about it. Kanoe Zouichi. Just Zouichi is fine."
windwitch: (excitement)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
"That's good. It's probably for the best, given the situation. It makes a lot more sense for us to work together as much as possible, after all. It wouldn't do any good otherwise..."

Maxine beamed back at that. "It's nice to meet you, Zouichi. Considering the circumstances I mean. Thank you for trying to help me out. I mean I'm still a little confused but that's probably normal, right? And you did help a lot, really."

He gave her a little wave in the negative. It sounded like she wanted to bring the conversation to an end, so he should probably bow out and let her come to terms with... well, whatever she could come to terms with. "Don't mention it. And let me know if you need anything else."
windwitch: (the defaultest)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I will! I just figured you had other places to be, or maybe that there were other people who needed help. I mean, I think I'm doing okay, and that I can figure things out from here, probably, so I don't want to take up more of your time, since that'd be kind of selfish of me. I just have to try and figure things out from here, you know? I might have missed stuff in the guide too, and I can look you up if I need more help, if you don't mind. Which I guess you don't, since you offered."

He gave her a smile. "I understand. And yes, feel free to contact me if you get lost somewhere."

With a little wave, he excused himself, looking for the next person to bother.
