Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicom. New crew-mates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that) and purple girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Oh, thank you," Maxine said, managing a smile to this other girl. She was down, yes, but she had to try and be positive, right? "That's nice of you to say. I always worried people thought it was kind of silly. But I like it. The 'witch' theme is a lot of fun."

"It's all about how you wear it." Jinx agreed running her fingers through her own hair. "So you have the whole theme thing working for you? Are you actually a witch?" Wouldn't be the first one she'd met.

"I guess that's true," Maxine agreed. "I kind of have a theme going on, and the hat is made to match the rest. This was the only part of my costume that I got here though, which I guess isn't a big deal, but this suit is kind of uncomfortable." She paused briefly, but she was never one for secret identities much, and this didn't seem like the time for it. "I'm not really a witch, though, but people have called me that before, to describe my powers. It's just not actually magic."

"Oh ho?" Jinx began strolling around Maxine, "A metahuman then? Or perhaps a mutant." She inquired as she let her eyes roam up and down the newcomer examining her carefully.

Maxine flushed a little, now that she was being looked at more closely. At least it was now, once she was covered up, and not earlier. "Um, not exactly," she started. She wasn't sure she should be explaining her powers in too much detail, to a stranger. "But I guess metahuman works. I mean I have powers, anyway, so the definition fits. I just don't normally think about it like that."

Jinx smirked, "Well you're not alone as you may have guessed." Her eyes lit up hot pink for just a flash.

"It's unfortunate what's happened, but at least you have something to give you a leg up against the enemy."

"I thought so," Maxine said, watching this other girl closely. She really hoped this girl was another hero, but she didn't want to just outright ask. "What kind of powers do you have? If you don't mind me asking, I mean. I guess it could be kind of rude to ask."

She frowned at that, gripping the hat a little tighter. "I guess so. I mean I've been learning to fight but it's still a pretty scary thought, especially because this is pretty different from the sorts of things I've seen before." A beat. "Are our worlds really gone? I can't really get my head around that, still."

"A little bit of I'll show you mine if you show me ours hmm?" she purred teasing the new girl. She lit up her eyes again just for show and a spark danced along her fingertips.

"I can alter probability, luck, bend it to my will."

As the pink died down again she frowned slightly, "So far as I've seen yes, but that's only if you believe most the people here who believe the talking robot voice."

Maxine watched, a little impressed by the flashy show of light, listening. "Altering luck? That sounds like a really useful power. I mean, a bit of good luck would definitely come in handy in a lot of situations, especially when something's really dangerous or drastic. Can you use it on really big problems or situations, or would that be more tiring? I know a lot of people have problems using their powers on bigger things, but that makes sense, when you think about the physics of it." She paused, and decided it was fine to show her powers, given the situation. The faint breeze around her picked up a bit, and she was lifted slightly off the ground, hair twirling more in the air around her. "People have called me a 'Wind Witch' before. I can control the air and generate wind around me. It can be useful sometimes, like I can create winds strong enough to move people and things. And flight is really nice."

She looked a little disheartened again, though, as she landed back on the ground, hair falling still by her. "Oh. Do we really have anyone else to believe though? I mean, I take it we're all in more or less the same situation so I guess we have no choice but to take the word of the ship for it. She seems nice, though, I don't know if she'd want to lie to us. But still, I don't really want to believe that. What would have happened to my friends? And all those innocent people on the world?"

Wind power, Jinx nodded appreciatively. She'd had interactions with elemental powered players before so this wasn't new, but it was interesting.

"Not bad, not bad at all." She encouraged. "I can use my luck in any situation, to bring bad luck to others or bring good luck to me. It's just about how you apply it." Which could be said for a great many powers.

"There are some other wind powered do-gooders around here. If you want to learn some more advanced techniques I'm betting they might know a thing or two."

As for the second part...

"That's exactly the thing, we have her word yeah and I've seen the creatures that destroyed our homes. Not fun."

"Thank you," Maxine replied, managing a warm smile. "That does sound really useful though. I mean, if you make your luck better then that makes the probability of winning higher, right? I mean obviously, you know how your powers work than I would anyway. But still. I guess that'd be a really good power to have.

"And really? I'll have to ask later, I guess. That's the kind of things these comms are good for, right? Maybe I can see if anyone wants to train with me, so I can get better with my powers. The JSA was helping me a lot, though, so that was nice at least."

Her face fell a little, upon mentioning her friends. Especially when combined with talking about those creatures. "Oh. I really hope that it's true that we can get our worlds back. I hope my friends are okay. Maybe they're in the pods? But until then I'll just have to be brave for them, I guess. This is just awful."

"The JSA?" Jinx frowned, more because her instant distaste for most heroic organizations but partly because "Aren't you a little young for that team? I heard it was mostly old retired heroes...and that Stargirl chick." She was familiar with the team's lineup, from her world anyway. Who knew what alternate universe this girl came from.

"Oh, you've heard of them?" Maxine said, voice brightening a little bit. Was this girl from her world after all? She wasn't sure she recognised her, but still. "I was actually on the JSA All-Stars but I started out on the main team. It's not all older heroes, but even then they're all really nice. Like The Flash and Green Lantern and Wild Cat. Co--Stargirl and I both switched to the All-Stars, though, with some of the other younger heroes on the team, and Power Girl is the leader instead." Did this girl not know about that stuff happening?

All of that...all of it, every bit was completely news to Jinx.

"Well I may not have been keeping up with things as much as usual before the world ended, but I'm pretty sure I'd have noticed a big shuffling of teams like that." She sighed "Looks like you're from an alternate. A universe like mine but different. Justice League, Teen Titans, JSA, but not all the same. I wrote a paper on it once for physics class." She neglected to mention she'd only gotten an A- on it. That was as bad as an F to her.

"Oh." Well, that was kind of disappointing, but Maxine could work with that. "Well, that's okay. I mean, you still come from a similar world, so I guess that still counts for something, right? Because that means that at least I have someone around here who can talk about that kind of thing. Though I thought I saw some other names on the guide, too, that I recognised, but I'll have to look again. I was mostly trying to get through the broad situation." She frowned. "I guess that makes sense. I've dealt with things like alternate worlds before. Like Power Girl had to deal with the fact that she came from a different world. It's really an interesting concept in theoretical physics. Only it's not that theoretical anymore, now that it's been proven a few times over."

"Exactly." Though Jinx hadn't known about Power Girl being from another universe. She was sure Mammoth probably would make some kind of lewd joke about her chest being "Out of this world" though if he knew.

"It's always nice to make new friends." She purred with a sort of artificial sweetener kindness that could easily be mistaken as sincerity. It would be nice to have other people from at least something close to her universe to chat with, but until she got to know Maxine she wasn't making any BFF bracelets.

"It is!" Maxine said, and her face brightened considerably. Did this other girl consider her a friend already? That was definitely a nice thought. "I'm Maxine, by the way, sorry that took so long. Only I guess 'Cyclone' works too, since I already said I was a hero."

"Jinx." She introduced herself simply and considered for a second explaining she was "Unaffiliated." instead she just went with "No secret Identity, just Jinx." Though she had a few fake names she used on fake IDs back when such a thing was necessary.

"Oh, well that's okay. Not everyone needs a secret identity, right? I mean, I barely have one anyway, I guess." She smiled a little. She wasn't sure she was familiar with anyone named Jinx, but it could be a different world thing, like they'd established. "It's really nice to meet you. Thank you for being so nice to me, too. I'm just feeling kind of disoriented I guess, all things considered."

"My pleasure." she purred fluttering her eyelashes at the new girl. "Everyone needs a little help every now and then."

"Yeah, that's true. And I mean, this is kind of a special case, too. I don't imagine that many people really know how to deal with a situation like this when they first show up, right? Since it's kind of a weird case, and really messed up. So it's great that there are people around to try and help."

"Oh I dunno, I think humans adapt to things pretty well. It's the non-humans you really have to worry about. Humans have always been so painfully aware of our weaknesses, of just how delicate the balance between life and death is for us. Even the strongest of us can have accidents." She said all this with a creepy smile. Even if she was being nice she didn't have to be that nice.

"Oh," Maxine replied, and her face fell a little. "I guess that's true." And she was thinking on Damage, who had died not that long ago, even though he'd always been so strong. "But we have to try our best anyway, right? I mean, that's what heroes are for. For taking risks to help other people out, even if it's scary..." She bit her lower lip. "So we adapt to the situation and we 'evolve'-- so to speak-- so we can get out of this. Or something."

"Or something." Jinx echoed giving Maxine a strange look, "And if it came to it "hero" would you make the ultimate sacrifice for all of these people? The one's you don't know? The ones you might not like?" She sauntered closer leaning in seeking the truth in Maxine's eyes.

Maxine's eyes fell instinctively, feeling awkward and uncertain under the fire of that question. "Um," she started, "I--I think so. I mean I've never been in that situation before, but I'd want to do my best. That's what heroes are supposed to do, and that's what all of my friends would do, because who the people are doesn't matter, right?" That's what Damage had done. "I'd... like to think that I could be as brave as them." She just didn't really feel like she could be.
