Time for a Talk [Closed to Command Staff]

Kirk had done some poking around on his own initiative, after Cybil informed him about the precinct. He'd found it easily enough - it just took some looking around the city. He'd been a bit staggered by all of it. It simply confirmed how huge Stacy was and how little of it they'd really explored. All the more reason to get moving quickly. Cybil had also been quite correct in regards to being able to use it for a meeting place - the actual meeting rooms were something of a relief and quite distinct from the usual huddle on the observation deck.

He'd alerted the command staff of the time and place via a quick, direct use of the comm-rings and left it at that. Now, all he had to do was wait.

Nathan remembered coming across the precinct. Easy when you often fly over the city, and taking care to avoid the more dangerous regions. And flying fast like he does only contributes to his promptness.

He nodded to the commander, and found a spot to wait for the others.

It had been a bit since the raptor-punching incident, and already Picard could tell he was doomed to have his fifteen minutes of fame for it. At this point, anythng that got him away from the teens and young ones in the crew was time spent not having to answer questions about punching a velociraptor in the face, somethig the captain would very much liked to have moved on past. To put it bluntly, he was exceedingly grateful for the command meeting Kirk had put together.

Elfangor heard about the meeting and after some debate to almost skip it with Loren on board, he decided he really shouldn't. He did have a responsibility to the crew, after all.

So leaving when he finally had to to make the meeting on time, he ended up hurrying and arrived a bit sooner than he expected. Giving the others a nod of acknowledgment, he joined them in waiting for the others.

The Chief arrives at the appointed time. He's been spending a lot of time at the precinct and knows the building reasonably well by now, and approves of it as a meeting place. He's still instinctively wary of the city, despite Stacy's assurances that it's safe now. It's just habit.

He walks into the room and finds a place to stand and wait, making eye contact with the others and organizing his thoughts. He has a lot to report.

And here's Cybil, with her omnicom out. She's got a whole checklist of things they need to discuss.

And there was Leon, who wasn't part of the command staff, but was invited to this meeting by the Chief and Cybil. There are things he would need to discuss with them.

"Captains," he greeted, and gave a nod to everyone else.

Spock enters and silently plants himself in a flanking position behind Kirk. One arm is tucked behind his back, the other holds the tricorder which he impassively pores over.

Here's a missing one! Billy takes his place with the others, stopping to catch his breath with as dignified a posture as he can manage.

"My apologies for the delay. An unanticipated reaction in the laboratory required my immediate attention."

Jaime sits backwards on a chair.

"I don't have to do the shieldy thing this time?"

Training Concerns, and Security

[personal profile] prettycoolguy 2009-07-16 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
The Chief, after the floor has been opened to reports, raises an issue that's been bothering him.

"It's come to my attention that we have no one in charge of overall team training," says the Chief. "I'd like to volunteer to oversee that, as it's important that the teams not only be able to function as units but also as a larger group."

"In addition, I'd like to offer my post as head of Security to Leon Kennedy in order to have more time to devote to one job instead of dividing myself between two. He's been very capable so far and I would not hesitate to trust him with it." The Chief'd be glad to see the job go to an actual cop, someone who knows a bit more about dealing with things like this than he does. "I can keep up work in the security team but I think that Leon is better suited to it."

That caught Leon off guard.

"I... uh... wasn't expecting that...

"But, so long as no one has any objections, I'd be honored."

"Mr. Kennedy here has my vote," says Cybil. "He's already shown plenty of initiative."

"Fine by me on both accounts," Nathan readily agreed. He'd seen how Leon had been around the place, and he seemed solid and dependable.

"I'll happily agree to it, Master Chief," Picard replied. He understood the need behind it, and while Leon was no Worf, he hardly wanted someone to think that the captain of the ship was practicing some kind of interdimensional nepotism.

"Congratulations, Mister Kennedy," the captain said warmly, "I believe you've been promoted."

"Apparently so." He was still rather surprised, but he wasn't about to turn the job down. He'd be doing it regardless anyway.

"Thank you, sir. Chief." Leon gave a nod towards the Master Chief.

"I won't let you guys down."

The Sam Winchester Mess

[personal profile] governmentninja 2009-07-16 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
"There's a number of security concerns that need to be addressed, but the one I'd like to address is the growing mess centering around Sam Winchester. It seems like the more I dig into it, the more problems are uncovered." That was probably the understatement of the century. But he needed to bring up the situation with Sam before mentioning the guns, if only to help paint the current landscape of the ship.

"Here are the facts of the situation:

"Some time ago, Sam met with other members of the crew who, like himself, had been infected by a Yeerk. Together, they were going to decide the fate of the Yeerk we're holding in stasis. Sam sees no other viable solution besides killing the thing, so when the other members group decided there should be a hearing to decide its fate, Sam made plans to murder the Yeerk if a death sentence wasn't handed down at the end of the hearing.

"To that end, he gathered a map of the med bay, as well as the schedules of all the crew members who work there and actively began planning how to murder the Yeerk.

"Jack Spicer, later on, hacked into Sam's omnicomm. By his own admission, he did so simply to see if he could. He didn't suspect Sam of anything at the time. However, while doing so, he stumbled across Sam's plans and alerted other members of the crew. Brainiac Five, the organic one, Dox, saw Jack's alert and went to confront Sam.

"Dox was able to locate Sam rather quickly, using what I suspect to be some kind of tracking program he embedded into the omnicomms that he neglected to mention to anyone. Upon confronting Sam, Dox recorded the conversation, wherein Sam admitted he planned on murdering the Yeerk, and was willing to go through whatever crew members he had to in order to do it. Dox then alerted security, which is when both myself and the master Chief confronted Sam.

"Sam was taken into custody, and is currently being held in the brig. For the time being, he's refusing to eat in protest.

"In addition, Jack Spicer's omnicomm was taken into custody and is being held as evidence. Dox's omnicomm is also being held as evidence. However, with the exception of the recording of his conversation with Sam, he deleted everything before turning it over, including the tracking program. Allen, who I asked to examine the omnicomms, was still able to pull part of the program off of Sam's omnicomm, and is currently going over it. He's also intending to take a more thorough look at the omnicomms and comm rings to see what other bugs and easter eggs might be left in there."

And... that should be everything.

Re: The Sam Winchester Mess

[identity profile] clear-horizons.livejournal.com 2009-07-19 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll not condemn the man for what he wished to accomplish," the captain pointed out first, "but his actions against any crew members should be punished. For now, keep him in the brig. Jim, I respect your opinion on the sanctity of life, and normally I would agree with you wholeheartedly, but we're talking about a creature that bases its entire existence on taking over the mind and body of another living creature. In this case, on this ship, all those creatures are other sentient beings."

Picard frowned, other thoughts starting to percolate in his head. "Mister Dox should be spoken to. Allow me to do it. I think I've had enough experience with him -- with both Brainiac 5s -- to make headway with him.

"Also ... have Mister Spicer report to me as well. I have already dealt with Mister Dox and Mister Five about violating someone's privacy for the sake of doing so, and I'll speak with our other troublemaker in the same way."

< If I might make the offer, I can speak with Mister Winchester to at least convince him to eat and let proper procedure take it's course with the Yeerk. > Elfangor offered. < There have been quite a few instances where an Andalite aristh have become quite unforgiving of a Yeerk prisoner. However, since it's wrong to kill any sentient being that is willing to surrender, I have some practice in making them see losing their honor because of whatever anger and hatred they feel is nothing short of savage. No matter the species, if they are willing to surrender and release their own 'prisoners' or 'hosts,' then it is our proper duty to at least offer them a fair chance at life. >

There might have been a disguised hinting that even if the Yeerks are a rather hateful race that take over others, it still surrendered and the honorable thing is not just killing it. As little love as he held for the Yeerks, he made it a point to keep his honor and he'd rather not be under the command of someone who might put that in jeopardy.

The Sam Winchester Mess, Now with added Yeerk Trial!

[personal profile] governmentninja 2009-07-20 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes sir." Leon took note of the Captain's orders.

"Talking to Sam might do him some good." Hopefully more good than what little Leon was able to do. "If we have anyone on board who is experienced at counseling, we should have them speak him with him as well.

"But while we're on the subject of Sam and this Yeerk... while it's clear Sam was planning alone and acting alone, I'd bet you anything that he isn't the only person on board who is willing to do whatever they deem necessary to make sure the Yeerk is dead. Conversely, there's also probably a few members of the crew who may decide that its not our place to kill the Yeerk." He didn't look at Jaime when he spoke, but the fact that the kid had already once suited up in his power armor and declared to everyone that the Yeerk wasn't going to be killed was definitely on his mind.

"Which ever way the hearing pans out, I'm not seeing anything other than a mess on our hands."

[identity profile] clear-horizons.livejournal.com 2009-07-20 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm only suggesting that the efforts to give this creature a fair trial could get out of hand. My own feelings aside, we cannot allow vigilantism to run unchecked in the crew." Picard would have sighed, but he was fairly certain he'd met his quota for the month. "This ... Yeerk will be held under additional security. I'd rather its trial went smoothly, or at least as smoothly as possible on this damn ship."

"Mister Kennedy, make it so," Picard continued. "Hopefully, with counseling and someone to talk to, Mister Winchester can work his way through these difficulties and we won't have to worry about a future attempt from him. What he needs is help and counseling, not reprobation for his own feelings on the matter. I'm hardly the right person to condemn him for what he wanted to do. None of us are."

< Hopefully I can at least get Sam Winchester to eat, but counseling may be good for him. Many who come back from a Yeerks control often experience trauma. If we have someone like that onboard, I might recommend all the infested talk to them at least once to be sure they are not merely repressing their own problems. > Elfangor suggested. He hadn't thought about it before, but it would probably be a good idea.

< I would also like to volunteer for the security of the trial. For those with any violent intentions, seeing the other natives of that universe might make them think that the trial is the right idea. >

"I'd volunteer for security," says Cybil, "but that'll likely be conflict of interest, given I may be called as a witness."

She doesn't disagree with the counseling.

She just doesn't need it herself.

"I'd also volunteer for trial security, unless I'm called on as a witness. I was only present for the fighting and think it unlikely." Just about anyone who was on the ship during that whole fiasco could describe the fighting well enough, as far as he's concerned.

He has no experience with anyone being recovered from a parasite's control. The nearest thing he's met to Yeerks is the Flood, and Flood victims are as good as dead.

"If you think it would help, get them spoken to. We don't need another Sam Winchester."

He's long since learned that nothing on this boat goes off without a hitch. This is just yet another snag, not the first and surely not the last.
