Exhaustion!

After fighting in a massive planetary battle -- well, less 'fighting' and more 'healing people, occasionally from literal death' -- the Akashic was, in a word, exhausted.

Not necessarily physically; regardless of how grueling shifts in Medbay might be at the moment, he made a point to stick to his schedule, sleep plenty, eat (ugh) enough gruel, and keep his body in shape. Not necessarily mentally either; good health and self-care, along with meditation and discipline, helped in that matter as well.

There was just a certain level of core, deep, ground-in exhaustion that couldn't be banished that easily, though. So that left only one thing to do for the best relaxation:

Snowboard in the sensorium.

Sumeragi laughed. "True enough. I'll give it a try - and it's not a big enough hill to hurt if it doesn't work." She shifted, and started down the hill. The first turn went well enough - though the movement was... different than she was used to. Something that would take practice. The second turn however, sent her sprawling in the snow - though she sat up with a grin.

He skidded to a stop next to her, board slicing perfectly through the snow till it came to a stop in a spray. He offered her a hand, doing his best not to laugh, though it was written all over him. "You got the first one down pretty nicely!" he said, truthfully enough.

Sumeragi's grin didn't fade, even as she took the hand he offered and pulled herself up. "You can laugh if you want, I know that probably looked pretty silly from the outside."

"It did," he admitted, looking down and away as his grin grew broader. "I'm glad you're good-natured about it. I was a terror when I was learning, myself."

He picked up his board. They weren't so far down the slope from where they'd started that they couldn't walk back up, right? And the exercise is good!

She grinned good-naturedly. "Well, it'd be silly to think I'd be perfect at something I'd never tried before first-go. And it's been a while since I've had time for sports."

She undid her own board, and followed him back up the hill.

"You're more realistic than I was. I figured that after all my training and everything, I ought to have been perfect at it the first time! It was just physical movement, after all!" Now he laughed, cheerfully self-mocking. "I was such a stupid teenager. You're a year or two out of that age category, so at least you don't have that problem."

He wasn't an idiot, he had a more realistic guess of her age in his head. But that would make for terrible mild flirtation.

Ahh, it'd been a while since she heard that polite lie - Billy knew how old she was, and the Meisters... well, that was territory she wasn't touching. She grinned a little brighter - it wasn't the lie that brought the smile, but the fact that he was trying.

"Well. Age does have some benefits."

That grin pleased him -- both because she kinda seemed like she needed it, and because clearly his line had worked to at least some degree. Victory all around!

"Yeah, once life really knocks you on your ass a couple times, just being down there literally isn't so bad any more."

He dropped back down to shove his feet in the bindings again, to punctuate that statement. "And if you can feel like you're having fun even if you're messing up, then you must be doing something right."

Ahh, and that sentiment was so much truer than she was going to let on to someone she'd just met. But she was determined not to let that stab of regret get in the way right now.

"I suppose that's true - even just having the time to mess up at something that doesn't really matter is relaxing right now, I think."

"You gotta make time for stuff like this," he said, as he dropped back down to the familiar butt-imprint he'd left in the snow twice already. "It's fun AND a learning experience, so you can even justify it by saying it's exercise. Can't slack on that, right?"

Sumeragi smiled as she sat down in the snow next to him. "Heh, I guess that's true. Though at least this ship has gravity."

"If it can generate all sorts of artificial forces in here, it would be pretty pathetic to not be able to do so outside," he said, absently putting his bindings back on once again. "I kind of like gravity, even if there's slightly less danger of being flung out into space while in an enclosed ship, as opposed to a planet."

She redid her's as well, and pushed herself up - it was getting easier to hold her balance doing this. "Zero-g has it's own appeal too, I think. Makes you pretty agile, too."

"Then you can teach me how to get around in it sometime, in exchange. And then laugh at me when I bounce my head off something. It'll be okay to laugh, because nothing of value will have been hurt," he said, with a wink.

He gestured to the hill. "Ready to go again, or any questions?"

She grinned. "We'll try it somewhere padded first. Would hate to ruin a handsome face." Not to mention that blood had a tendency to get everywhere in zero-g - but that was maybe a little too morbid for this conversation.

"I'm good for another go, I think."

"Clearly it never ruined a pretty one, so I think I might be safe. Or at least as safe as this is." He grinned and beckoned her on. Again, he'd follow her to see if he could offer any advice from watching her form.

Also enjoy watching her form. Yeaaaah.

Sumeragi tossed him a grin, and then shifted to head down the hill again. This run was a little better than her last one, and while the turns were wobbly, she managed to make it to the bottom of the hill still-upright.

He slid to a stop besides her, all grins. "Beautiful. That was really good. Now it's all just a matter of practice. Once you get to the point where you can smoothly switch from one turn to the next without needing to straighten in-between, you've pretty much mastered the fundamentals."

Sumeragi couldn't help feeling a small surge of pride at the compliment, and grinned in return. "It helps that I had such a good teacher, I think. I'll definitely come and practice during my free time, though."

"Once you do a smooth run down a slope, carving back and forth perfectly... there are better feelings in the world, but not too many," he said playfully. "Then you get into tricks and whatnot... But that's a bit more advanced."

He undid his bindings, stepping free. "My usual relaxation of choice is music, but I wouldn't mind popping in if you ever want more lessons or just company doing it. Or if you want to show off how good you've gotten, that's always worth seeing."

Morgan motioned up the hill. "Want to try the full length, now? Slow and easy still, but a bit more practice!"

"I'll keep that in mind," Sumeragi replied with a smile. She wasn't going to let on what her usual choice of relaxation was - but on the whole this one was probably better for her.

She glanced up the hill. "I think I'm up for it, yeah."

"We'll go slow and easy, maybe speed up once you get more comfortable..." His smile was maybe just a bit wicked as he moved over to the teleport pad.

If he knew her usual choice, he might have a comment. Then again, he might not. Whatever the case, she seemed to be taking to the sport, and that pleased him, simply for the sake of having shared something he liked with someone else.

She followed, and returned the smile - though that edge of grin was maybe just a touch worrying. But it probably wasn't anything dangerous he had planned.

"Hopefully without too many falls on the way."

Note to self, that one was a bit too subtle. Which was okay, since it was pretty terrible anyway.

From up here, the hill stretched out quite a ways down, though it was no steeper nor rougher than that one section they'd practiced on had been. "Hey, if you fall, I'll pick you up. One of the advantages of working with someone!"

The change of view didn't bother her too much - still a bunny hill, really. Just with slightly more room to fall down on. She shot him a grin. "Thanks." She meant it not just for the immediate offer but for...all of it, really.

It took her a moment to get the board strapped back on, and then she pushed off down the hill.
