Exhaustion!

After fighting in a massive planetary battle -- well, less 'fighting' and more 'healing people, occasionally from literal death' -- the Akashic was, in a word, exhausted.

Not necessarily physically; regardless of how grueling shifts in Medbay might be at the moment, he made a point to stick to his schedule, sleep plenty, eat (ugh) enough gruel, and keep his body in shape. Not necessarily mentally either; good health and self-care, along with meditation and discipline, helped in that matter as well.

There was just a certain level of core, deep, ground-in exhaustion that couldn't be banished that easily, though. So that left only one thing to do for the best relaxation:

Snowboard in the sensorium.

The change of view didn't bother her too much - still a bunny hill, really. Just with slightly more room to fall down on. She shot him a grin. "Thanks." She meant it not just for the immediate offer but for...all of it, really.

It took her a moment to get the board strapped back on, and then she pushed off down the hill.

Morgan could really start to like her, at this rate.

He twisted his body enough to start moving forward behind her. A part of him wanted to hammer out a few stunts, half for the joy of doing so and half for the sake of showing off, but he repressed that urge. Wouldn't do to steal her attention for the task, after all. So instead he contented himself with carving behind her.

Sumeragi was careful as she headed down - no huge turns, no fast turns, as they both seemed like an easy way to wind up flat on the snow again. But with a little more room, she could feel herself speeding up a little, and getting a little more comfortable with the turns as she neared the bottom.

He watched all the more carefully for that -- after all, when a person started feeling more confident, and thus more relaxed, that was when they were most likely to fall.

Not that he hoped she would, of course!

Thankfully, Sumeragi didn't fall, sliding to a stop at the bottom of the hill after a few more turns. She could still feel the little adrenaline rush - both from having tried it, and having succeeded. She shifted herself a little, twisting so she could watch Morgan come down behind her.

He slid to a halt next to her, hand raised for a high-five. "Beautiful. That looked great from start to finish!"

Sumeragi grinned, and slapped his raised hand with her own. "Thanks. I'm sure having a good instructor didn't hurt."

"Flattery will get you all sorts of interesting places," he said, winking. "But seriously, till you get to the point where you start wanting to slam out some tricks, you're just building on what you did now. Master moving your board, and you've got the foundation of everything."

Sumeragi grinned, and raised an eyebrow. "Will it? I'll have to remember that." She reached down to undo the bindings on her board. "But seriously, thank you. This is a lot of fun - and I just may come back on my own and practice some more.

"Absolutely. If I ever become so jaded, vain, or self-centered that flattery from a cute girl meant nothing to me, I don't think life would be worth living!"

He took the lazy way out; he simply commanded the Sensorium to make his bindings disappear. Lazily, Morgan stepped off his board, then kicked it up into his hands. "If you ever want company, just say the word. It'd be a pleasure. Meanwhile, I'm glad I could teach you something fun. We all need a little more of that!"

Sumeragi laughed, though she couldn't quite hide a blush at the compliment he threw her way. "That we do. Perhaps we need classes on how to have fun as well as how to fight, around here." She could think of a few people that needed some lessons in fun off the top of her head.

Oh, perfect! THAT one hit its intended mark! "Problem with that is the only people who'd show up are the ones who don't need the lessons."

"Mm, true. We could always drag them in kicking and screaming, but that might miss the point." As amusing as it would be to force the Meisters into it, she was pretty sure Tieria wouldn't know 'fun' if it hit him upside the head.

"That might be fun for us, but see previous point!" Though he could admittedly think of a few people who needed help getting out and having fun even if they weren't necessarily opposed to it. "Maybe we should have a sensorium-movie-night and tell our stick-in-the-muds they have to come, no exception."

She grinned. "We'd probably have to put up with an analysis of every scene of the movie and it's flaws - but it could still be fun."

[morganknight]

"If they find that sort of thing fun, then haven't we secretly achieved our goal to begin with?" he said, grinning right back.

She laughed. "Ah, I suppose so! Though some of them seem determined not to find anything fun."

[morganknight]

"The kind who look so grumpy and dour that you start to think that your mom was right when she said if you keep making that face, it'll freeze that way," Morgan said. Actually his mom had never told him that, for one very good reason, but the joke was memetic enough that he figured he could get away with it.

She grinned and nodded. "I know a few that I think have gotten stuck that way - on this ship, no less."

"I know one of them who was that way before he got here, which is a damn shame," Morgan said with a frown.

"Ahh... yeah, me too." She wasn't sure she'd ever seen Setsuna smile, actually.

Oh, hey! This provided a perfect chance to segue into the 'getting-to-know-you' phase of conversation! "For that matter, where are you from?" he asked, inwardly pleased that he'd realized this.

Ahhh, a familiar question there - though it was hard not to ask it in a place like this. "Earth - an Earth, anyway. I grew up in Spain."

[morganknight]

"I'm an American, myself. 21st century... not that the distinction really matters, with the different Earths and just HOW different each one is, right?" Giant robots and openly magical people and wars and people from the future... if he hadn't been used to all of this BEFORE he woke on the ship, it would be very troubling.

She grinned. "I went to school in the US. 24th century, though."
