Holes and Patches [OPEN FREE FOR ALL]

After the battle, the warriors' task was over. Their job, for now, was to rest and recover for the time being.

The healers' job, on the other hand, was far from over. Some exhausted from the battle, others rotating in, they took to their bay and continued the process of treating the wounded. Some patients were free to leave in a few minutes, while others would have some time (or quite some time) on the cots. Their mission: relax. Stay as still as possible.

Unfortunately, the temptation of so many familiar faces alive and about would ultimately prove to be too great. Keeping track of this group was going to be a third task all its own.

[this is a free for all for all your injured! Have them socialize, be thorns in the medics' side, try to escape, or bring the medics together for some action. Just note in your post if you'd like a medic to visit your character---if not, it's time for a chat!]

He knew what had happened, had been there to see it. Knew, also, how long it had taken to get the image of Amy's body out of his mind. How long the image had haunted him every time he closed his eyes.

"I know, Conner." He kept the hand on his son's shoulder, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "I know that's all you can think about right now. And it will take time, lots of time, before that goes away." He took a deep breath. "But don't let it consume you, Conner. Don't let that moment be the only thing you keep in your head. Don't let that moment be the thing that haunts you in your sleep. You saved Kara. You did that, without you, she wouldn't have made it. You were brave, son, you did what you needed. I'm very proud of you. And I know that doesn't help right now, that what you managed to save doesn't help cast shadow over what was lost, but you need to hold onto that too. Some days, the small battles we win are all we have to hold onto. The things we save are the things we have to cling to. Remember the loss, don't try to hide it, because it won't ever go and covering it over just makes it fester. But don't let the last moment eclipse all the moments that came before."

It had been a long time, a small eternity. Two thousand years of waiting, and all he had to cling to was the mission and the lives he sought out to protect or better. All of the deaths he'd seen, the children he'd watched grow old and die, and their children too in turn. But he had to remember those heroes, the lives they'd led, rather than let the ending be what defined them for him.

Superboy was silent for a good long while.

Finally, a fond smile came over his face.

"He taught me how to milk a cow. And the best way to catch a crashing jet."
