Holes and Patches [OPEN FREE FOR ALL]

After the battle, the warriors' task was over. Their job, for now, was to rest and recover for the time being.

The healers' job, on the other hand, was far from over. Some exhausted from the battle, others rotating in, they took to their bay and continued the process of treating the wounded. Some patients were free to leave in a few minutes, while others would have some time (or quite some time) on the cots. Their mission: relax. Stay as still as possible.

Unfortunately, the temptation of so many familiar faces alive and about would ultimately prove to be too great. Keeping track of this group was going to be a third task all its own.

[this is a free for all for all your injured! Have them socialize, be thorns in the medics' side, try to escape, or bring the medics together for some action. Just note in your post if you'd like a medic to visit your character---if not, it's time for a chat!]

That question made Trudy's face light up in a huge grin. "Man, there is someone up there watching out for us," she said, he uninjured hand going to fiddle with the cross around her neck almost unconsciously. "No casualties, and I think I might be the worst injured this time around."

Her pilots were fantastic, true, but that kind of luck was supernatural. Trudy was going to be spending some time on her knees in the Vatican, telling Him just how much she appreciated this.

"Hopefully for our benefit, and not theirs," Kang said dryly. He didn't care much for gods anymore; all they did was mess up mortal lives any chance they got. "Do you know if there were any casualties among the rest of the crew? I haven't heard much of anything yet."

She knew that question was coming and sighed, propping her elbows on her knees. "We lost Kal-el," she said heavily.

The rest of the crew might have known him simply as Superman, but he was on the Council. Trudy dealt with him more often than most.

Kang blinked, and cursed. "Of all the people we could lose. How the hell was he even taken down?"

Trudy shrugged, and hated that she had to. "It was on the ground, I wasn't planetside. I was a little busy trying to keep the fleet from descending on the planet, too. Kennedy will know, I'm sure."

From what little she'd heard of the communications from the surface, something big and nasty showed up. If anyone could beat it, Superman was the one... she only wished he survived the process.

Sending a brief glare at the lamp still above his bed, Kang crossed his arms over his chest, "I don't know much about what happened after that cold bomb, except that Kali rode on a damn dragon, and that we somehow managed to win." He was still in a bit of shock over the Crucible news.

"We found the fleet's node," Trudy said. "That was the turning point in the air. I'm not sure what it was on the ground but I imagine Kal-el had a lot to do with it. He doesn't-" she paused, closed her eyes, "didn't seem like the kind of person to go all in for something small."

"...did you destroy it?" Kang asked, surprised.

He hadn't been all that close with Kal-el, or agreed with all his views, but he had worked with the guy, so there was some respect there. "No, he didn't."

"You're damn right we did," Trudy said. Anyone could see that she was about exploding from pride. "I don't think they were expecting a surgical strike like the one we hit them with. The Quarter hit it with the main cannon first, and then we ran bombing runs until we had a direct path. Reliant is a sweet little ship, too - I wouldn't mind having it in the fleet on a permanent kind of basis, but I don't think the admiral wants to part with it."

If she were the admiral, she wouldn't part with it either.

"So we can hit them where it hurts," Kang grinned, glad to hear that happy bit of news. "And this time, we forced a retreat on them instead of the other way around. That's the best damn news we've gotten yet on this ship."

"They didn't exactly rout us the last time we ran into them either," Trudy said. "Despite how it may have looked when we limped back into the hangar after NiSaris, we did win. I'd like to have more manpower in the air, but it seems like the Ohm's real strength isn't in their space fleet anyway. The ground troops seem like they're what's important."

The Quarter would be doing some more limping after this battle, too. It took a few nasty hits in the unused decks, and despite the fact that they were unused, Trudy didn't feel good about holes in her ship.
