Lirath - Ship Survival

As the battle raged outside, those remaining aboard Stacy had their hands full preparing for the incoming flood of refugees.

Positioned near the Bleed-Gate orbiting Lirath, Stacy stood ready to receive the refugees. Ship after ship ascended as quickly as they could, some of them making a break for the Bleed-Gate itself while the smaller ships were forced to dock at Stacy, unloading their cargo of refugees before setting off again for the planet's surface again to take on more passengers.

Several small units of GIA soldiers were also sent up to help the Transmigration crew take in the massive amount of refugees, many of whom were tired, wounded, and scared. It wouldn't take long for the ship to begin filling with people.

With the battle raging outside, and the Ohm clambering outside, trying to get in, it would be a tall order to keep all of the refugees safe and calm, but the crew didn't have much choice.

Cassie nodded. Keeping the peace was definitely something that she could do. Still, she was worried and upset by the circumstances. This might not be her first time dealing with situations of such difficulty, but that didn't make it any easier to look at the frightened faces of the refugees surrounding them and to wish that she could do so much more for them then she could. She hurt for them all. But, she maintained her composure as well as she could. She'd protect these people and that was all there was to it.

She shivered as she pictured what could happen if people panicked in close quarters like this. It wasn't a pleasant image. For a moment, she toyed with the idea of morphing into an osprey or something else that could fly while out of sight and taking a better look over the crowd to see if she could spot trouble. She felt blind right now and that made her nervous. Surely, it would be better if she could spot trouble before it appeared. But would she cause more trouble by doing so? Would it even really help? If trouble appeared, she might prove to be of little use as an osprey. She went through her other morphs quickly, but they all seemed inadequate for the job at hand.

"You're right," she agreed worriedly, her voice quiet as her eyes anxiously searched the crowd. "This whole thing worries me. I wish there was some way we could get these people to safety more quickly."

"Do you have any beasts of burden in your arsenal? Horses or anything?" It might not do to ferry people back and forth, but if they knew who to look at for directions it could help to have a leg up.

"If it weren't for these plantsuits, people would have no idea we were trying to help them," she mutters. Her commanding presence can only garner so much respect when they're a hair-trigger away from total pandemonium. "See if you can direct the people with children off to the side. Eye them up very closely, since if they're all in one spot they're a target."

Cassie face lit. "I have a horse morph. In fact, I have two. One is a racehorse and the other a horse from my farm at home. Would either of those help?"

She overheard Eva's quiet addition and silently agreed. Everyone was so tense... it was frightening. Any minor disturbance could set a disaster in motion.

Cassie moved towards a couple with three small children and smiled at them. "Please come this way," she told them with a kind smile, gesturing in the direction that Eva had indicated. Her heart went out to the children who were clustering as close to their parents as they could manage. This was an intensely difficult situation for even adults, but for children... it seemed too cruel. Bending down on one knee, so that she could look directly at the children, she added, "It'll be fine. We've got this under control." At least she hoped that they did.

"Your farmhorse is more used to people, isn't it? Fewer panic instincts? Go find a corner and morph that." It shouldn't be hard for Cassie to disappear with such a packed crowd, and a horse would let Eva see people better in case of threats. Besides, people would know where to look for questions.

Even if most of these people mean them no harm, she still wants Cassie to keep her abilities hidden. Paranoia is hard to shake.

Cassie nodded. It was true that her first horse morph tended to be a lot steadier then the racehorse that she later acquired. Thoroughbreds were incredible creatures, but calm and steady were not generally words associated with the breed, especially not young stallions bred to race.

She vanished a moment later. It was quite easy for her to disappear in the crowd, but a little harder to find a spot where she couldn't be seen. And if there was one thing that would panic people, it would be a person turning into a horse within eyeshot. But, she did finally find a corner big enough to accommodate the horse that she would become, while still being hidden from sight.

The morph was a familiar one and she'd done it so many times by this point that the instincts were of no difficulty to suppress, which was good because, even though this morph was less excitable then the racehorse would have been, it was still skittish when surrounded by so much noise and activity. She lifted her head and sniffed the air, trying to catch Eva's sent. Horses generally had a good sense of smell and hearing, but their eyesight left something to be desired. Finding Eva again would have to be done by either remembering which direction she had come from or finding her companion's scent, given that it was far too loud in the room for Cassie to be able to hear Eva from this distance.

Catching her friend's scent really didn't work either. There were just too many crisscrossing scents, so Cassie moved carefully in the direction that she remembered coming from, trying to stay clear of the refugees wandering around near her, many who moved quickly away from her when they saw the loose animal wandering around.

< Eva, > she called out nervously, not liking this situation. Perhaps it had been a mistake to move so far away from her companion, but it couldn't really be helped. If she'd been able to find a spot to morph closer then she would have used it. < Can you see me? The horse's senses are a little messed up with all that's going on around here and I'm having trouble locating you again. >

Eva, meanwhile, seems to have lost track of Cassie entirely. She mills through the crowd, but she's far from the tallest person, so unless she happens to bump right into a horse she can't find Cassie by sight.

The crowd is moving more quickly now as a new ship of refugees floods out, and despite Eva's protests, they move forward quickly enough to sweep her away. She has to keep moving, or they might trample her or knock her down. Neither of which are options she's too keen on exploring.

She wishes she had thought speak, but there's little she can do to find Cassie now. She knows the girl is more than capable, and that's some comfort as she gets pulled along with the crowd.
