Lirath - Ship Survival

As the battle raged outside, those remaining aboard Stacy had their hands full preparing for the incoming flood of refugees.

Positioned near the Bleed-Gate orbiting Lirath, Stacy stood ready to receive the refugees. Ship after ship ascended as quickly as they could, some of them making a break for the Bleed-Gate itself while the smaller ships were forced to dock at Stacy, unloading their cargo of refugees before setting off again for the planet's surface again to take on more passengers.

Several small units of GIA soldiers were also sent up to help the Transmigration crew take in the massive amount of refugees, many of whom were tired, wounded, and scared. It wouldn't take long for the ship to begin filling with people.

With the battle raging outside, and the Ohm clambering outside, trying to get in, it would be a tall order to keep all of the refugees safe and calm, but the crew didn't have much choice.

Jamie spotted the enormous spider-thing and felt a momentary surge of panic, mistaking it for some new and monstrous type of Ohm, before he noted that it seemed to be attacking the other bugs swarming over the hangar - and that the insectoid invaders were hassling it, in turn. He wasn't sure what, or who, the creature might be, but if it was beating up Ohm it might be worth giving it some backup.

From range, Jamie drew a bead on a Bombardier moving in on the spider creature and fired off a shot with the Geno Saurer's long-range pulse lasers, violet-white light stabbing out to slice off the wing and legs on one side. The thing plummeted to the floor of the hangar amidst a swarm of ground troops, plowing through them in a tangle of many-jointed limbs and scattering more as it flailed and scrabbled with its remaining appendages. Jamie kicked on the Geno's ankle boosters, surging toward Midna, and his voice issued over the Zoid's external speakers.

"Keep it up, I'll cover you!"

"Aw, what a nice guy." Midna grabbed several nearby grunts, lashing them about and whipping them into the floor and nearby walls before tossing them aside like discarded toys.

"I'll be sure to give you a reward for that later."

Well, it was sentient enough to be snarky, which Jamie guessed was a good thing. The blue Zoid roared across the hangar, blasting a pair of Grenadiers and another Bombardier before they could get close enough to Midna to use their acid cannons, and cut the boosters to skid to a stop alongside the spidery beast and continue its assault, alternating between the long-range laser rifles and the shorter paired guns on the Geno's forehead to take out enemies at closer range.

Something large and heavy dropped onto a nearby X-wing, crumpling it in a shriek of buckling metal and shattering glass, and Jamie wheeled the Geno to see a massive Ohm Tank squatting in the wreckage, a split second before it and a half-dozen others charged toward Jamie and Midna's position with surprising speed.

Jamie, are you doubting Midna's sentience? How cruel.

Abruptly, Midna dropped her Fused Shadow form, sliding easily into the shadow of one of the Tanks as it charged right past her and impacted the wall on the other side. She reappeared as the Tank flew safely past, then motioned with her hands, dematerializing first one, then a second Ohm into a cloud of black particles.

Could she 'store' a living creature without killing it? That had been Allenby's question, and to tell the truth, Midna wasn't really sure. But she guessed she was going to find out.

[It's fine!]

He only doubts the sentience of huge bug monsters, Midna. It's nothing personal.

With little time to aim his ranged weapons as the Tanks came pelting toward them, Jamie pushed the Geno Saurer forward, head lowered and jaws gaping, to snatch up one of the creatures, knocking aside another with a sweep of her head before tossing the first across the hangar. A third had propelled itself into the air by the time the Geno had finished that maneuver and was rapidly plummeting towards Jamie, who yanked hard on the control sticks to jerk his Zoid out of the Ohm's path of descent. She was sturdier than an X-wing, but he wasn't about to let her take a hit like that if she didn't have to.

The seventh Tank, likewise, was springing at Midna, while the onslaught of Grunts, Grenadiers and Bombardiers was still coming.

Midna rematerialized the form of one of the Tanks, now unmoving, and hurled it bodily at the the seventh Tank, taking it out of the air mid-spring. Ugh, fights like this were so annoying. If it were just her, she'd just flit back and forth and pick them off one by one while they were still trying to figure out where she was going to appear next.

But she guessed it would be kind of bad to just abandon Jamie like that.

She took her larger spider form again, grabbing the nearest couple of Grunts with her many arms and throwing them, aiming for the Grenadiers and Bombardiers. Stupid gross bugs.
