Of malfunctioning portals, parks and dragons [Open]
Taking some time from other projects, Celena had once more brought down her Paired Gate device down to the park in an attempt to work on a number of issues of the operation of the device while in the Bleed. After all if a stable gate could be established, even for short periods of time, it could make for quick travel about the city and about the ship in general.
Thus in her usual draconic form she had set herself before the primary end of the gate device in the middle of a large clearing in the park, with the secondary portion of the device not a hundred feet away. After some time in pondering the problem she had decided to take a break from her work. Locking the device down she stretched herself out and padded away to wander the park for a short while before taking off to stretch her wings. Keeping her general flight path around the vicinity of the park itself.
[OOC: Feel free to run into her at any point, whether while she's working on the device, wandering the park or even flying around overhead!]

"I could keep flying for a good while indeed yet, you are the one with the time limit after all," She replied easily with a smile across to her friend in draconic form, "If you might like, I could give a demonstration of what my form is capable of with my own skill?" Celena replied easily, not minding the time spent teaching and flying with Cassie.
(OOC: Sorry about my own late reply. >.< I'd be happy to continue it on a little if you'd like. Most welcome!)

(OOC: No problem. I'd love to continue. I just didn't want to you to feel like you had to if you wanted to be done with the thread. Thank you! :) )

Diving rapidly toward the built up city below, towards a grouping of towers, expertly guiding her form between them, continuing her dive even down past the rooftops of the tall towers, only when she was a mere fifty feet above the ground did she snap her wings open. Her wings catching the air with a sudden rush of lift, the maneuver leaving her nearly skimming the road below, shooting down the canyon made by the buildings at perfect ease even in such an environment. Just as suddenly as she pulled up she tilted her wings and arched her form to perform a tight turn down a side street at speed.
From above Cassie would be able to observe as Celena navigated the maze of the tall buildings below with a grace, skill and speed that came from years of honed practice, showing her just how maneuverable her form could be when she wished it to be.
(OOC: Am rather enjoying these to threading together for sure! Welcome! :) )

She kept careful watch though as her friend flew, noting what Celena could do in her form. It was good to know the extents that her form was capable of, even if she couldn't perform those maneuvers yet herself.
The thing that she noticed the most though as her friend flew was how happy Celena was. As far as Cassie was concerned, everything else was secondary.
< That's incredible, > she called appreciatively, grateful that thought speech could be heard clearly as long as the recipient was within range. It meant that she didn't have to shout. < How long have you known how to fly? >
(OOC: As am I. :) )

Celena knew well the advantage of Thought speech and telepathy in that way as she replied in turn in much a similar manner to Cassie's thought speech, 'Thanks, it certainly helps keep in practice,' she replied with a mental chuckle even as she performed a few final turns before spreading her wings wide down one of the larger streets to soar back up towards Cassie, 'Since I could first take wing, around one hundred and seventy years now,'
(OOC: Really sorry about the delay >.<; )

Cassie jerked, surprised at the voice in her head. She was well used to thought-speech, but she hadn't expected it from Celena when the only way she'd ever heard the dragon speak was verbally. Shaking her head, she mentally scolded herself for making assumptions without enough facts to back them up. She was further surprised to hear that Celena had been alive for so many years as well, but she wasn't too terribly thrown off by it. The average lifespan of most creatures varied depending on a number of factors, one of those being species, so it wasn't hard for Cassie to accept that dragons might be much longer lived then humans. < That's very impressive. > She paused for a moment as she debated whether or not to ask her next question, not sure whether Celena would take offense. Curiosity got the better of her, but she tried to frame the question in a way that was a non-offensive as possible. < Would it be rude of me to ask how long most dragons live? Humans don't last that long. You don't have to answer if you'd rather not. > There was some anxiety in her "voice" as she finished. Another pause occurred and then she added, < I hadn't realized that you could use thought-speech as I do. >
(OOC: It's perfectly fine. I apologize in a big way for my own delay as well. Things got very busy. :( )

It didn't take Celena long to clear the tops of the buildings as her powerful wings propelled her back up towards her currently draconic friend flying above. Why thank you, I've never gone long without flight since then, she commented with a mental grin as she rose to fly along side. Tilting her head toward Cassie curiously at the questions she asked, she could certainly understand the curiosity, after all, she herself was driven by it.
"It varies from species to species, however my own can live upwards of a thousand years and more depending on circumstance," She commented once more aloud in reply to her friend's first question before going on with a smile across to her friend in draconic form, "Telepathy, like the energies flowing through my form is a natural ability of my kind, it can prove quite useful for speaking at a distance, or when wishes to speak in particular privacy,"
(OOC: Not a problem at all, I know the feeling in regards to things getting busy)

The shock that she'd felt at hearing the dragon use thought-speech had passed and she didn't react when Celena spoke again in the same manner. < I can understand why, > she mused. < Flight is one of my favorite things about being able to morph. There's just nothing like it. > And she meant it. The ability to fly had always been a bright spot in her life. Still, if one was paying careful attention, one might notice that her mental voice was more subdued now then it had been. More distant. Morphing itself was an incredible experience and she'd been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to acquire it. Without it, she'd have never experienced the grace of an osprey, the speed of a horse, the incredible sense of smell that had come with being a wolf, and so many others. And, after all, she wouldn't be having this incredible experience now without the power and it was an incredible one. Still, sometimes it left a bitter taste in her mouth when she thought of all that had been lost since the moment she and her friends had gained the ability. The ability to morph had come at high price. A very high one. Cassie shook her head, forcing herself to focus back on Celena. Dwelling on that now wasn't exactly helpful.
Cassie smiled in response to Celena's words, grateful that her friend didn't seem angry. < I see. Thank you. I'm sorry for all the questions. I just enjoy learning about other cultures and species. After all, the better that we understand one another, the better we'll all get along. > It was understanding, after all, that led to peace and friendship rather then conflict. < Out of curiosity, can you communicate any other ways? > she added.

Now that she was within easy range to speak once more Celena decided it was best, for the moment at least, to switch back to communicate normally once more, "That I can understand indeed, to have the ability to experience flight in a manner that few of your kind truly could," She commented in turn as she looked across to her with a smile. For one as perceptive as the dragon flying beside her that subdued tone did not go unnoticed, such as it was that her experiences led her to take in the smallest hints of change. From the subdued nature of her tone in regards to her ability she could only assume that while it came with great benefit, it had not been without its costs, just what those costs were she could only guess at from what she knew of her group, it was not something she would bring up during such a moment to be enjoyed however.
"You are welcome, Cassie, you have nothing to be sorry for, indeed, I would encourage you to ask such questions, after all I myself enjoy learning all I can of cultures, species and all other such things. Indeed, without any understanding of each other or even the will to learn of others can lead to dangerous ignorance," She had seen in times past just what such ignorance could lead to, shaking her head though she looked over to her friend, "Apart from telepathy and speech, the markings of my kind can be used in a way to convey gestures, emotions and other such communication, in addition to body language,"

< Thank you, > Cassie said softly with a grateful smile. It was nice to be able to talk to Celena like this and she was thrilled to have this opportunity to learn more about her new friend. < That kind of ability would certainly be helpful. So many misunderstandings seem to happen because we can't read each other well enough. > A soft chuckle escaped her lips. < Sometimes I feel like we should just write on our foreheads precisely what we're feeling. Think of all the time and grief that could be saved! I suppose that wouldn't work out all that well in the long run though. >
