Of malfunctioning portals, parks and dragons [Open]

Taking some time from other projects, Celena had once more brought down her Paired Gate device down to the park in an attempt to work on a number of issues of the operation of the device while in the Bleed. After all if a stable gate could be established, even for short periods of time, it could make for quick travel about the city and about the ship in general.

Thus in her usual draconic form she had set herself before the primary end of the gate device in the middle of a large clearing in the park, with the secondary portion of the device not a hundred feet away. After some time in pondering the problem she had decided to take a break from her work. Locking the device down she stretched herself out and padded away to wander the park for a short while before taking off to stretch her wings. Keeping her general flight path around the vicinity of the park itself.

[OOC: Feel free to run into her at any point, whether while she's working on the device, wandering the park or even flying around overhead!]

Cassie would be the last to forget her own time limit. She'd been keeping a careful eye out on a nearby clock whenever she was near enough to see it. Fortunately, the eyesight that she had while in dragon morph was exceptional, which made it easier to keep watch. < I have time left still before I have to morph back, > she responded with a smile. Enthusiastically, she added. < Please? I'd love to see. > Learn from a master? Always.

(OOC: No problem. I'd love to continue. I just didn't want to you to feel like you had to if you wanted to be done with the thread. Thank you! :) )

Cassie was impressed as she watched Celena fly with a rare grace. Even with all she'd learned so far, she couldn't fly like that yet. Instincts could only give you the basics. The rest came with experience.

She kept careful watch though as her friend flew, noting what Celena could do in her form. It was good to know the extents that her form was capable of, even if she couldn't perform those maneuvers yet herself.

The thing that she noticed the most though as her friend flew was how happy Celena was. As far as Cassie was concerned, everything else was secondary.

< That's incredible, > she called appreciatively, grateful that thought speech could be heard clearly as long as the recipient was within range. It meant that she didn't have to shout. < How long have you known how to fly? >

(OOC: As am I. :) )

Cassie watched Celena fly, taking further note of the complicated moves that her friend showed off. She was pleased to see Celena so happy.

Cassie jerked, surprised at the voice in her head. She was well used to thought-speech, but she hadn't expected it from Celena when the only way she'd ever heard the dragon speak was verbally. Shaking her head, she mentally scolded herself for making assumptions without enough facts to back them up. She was further surprised to hear that Celena had been alive for so many years as well, but she wasn't too terribly thrown off by it. The average lifespan of most creatures varied depending on a number of factors, one of those being species, so it wasn't hard for Cassie to accept that dragons might be much longer lived then humans. < That's very impressive. > She paused for a moment as she debated whether or not to ask her next question, not sure whether Celena would take offense. Curiosity got the better of her, but she tried to frame the question in a way that was a non-offensive as possible. < Would it be rude of me to ask how long most dragons live? Humans don't last that long. You don't have to answer if you'd rather not. > There was some anxiety in her "voice" as she finished. Another pause occurred and then she added, < I hadn't realized that you could use thought-speech as I do. >

(OOC: It's perfectly fine. I apologize in a big way for my own delay as well. Things got very busy. :( )

There was pleasure in Cassie's eyes as Celena caught up with her and she quickly adjusted her wings so that she could fly easily alongside her friend.

The shock that she'd felt at hearing the dragon use thought-speech had passed and she didn't react when Celena spoke again in the same manner. < I can understand why, > she mused. < Flight is one of my favorite things about being able to morph. There's just nothing like it. > And she meant it. The ability to fly had always been a bright spot in her life. Still, if one was paying careful attention, one might notice that her mental voice was more subdued now then it had been. More distant. Morphing itself was an incredible experience and she'd been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to acquire it. Without it, she'd have never experienced the grace of an osprey, the speed of a horse, the incredible sense of smell that had come with being a wolf, and so many others. And, after all, she wouldn't be having this incredible experience now without the power and it was an incredible one. Still, sometimes it left a bitter taste in her mouth when she thought of all that had been lost since the moment she and her friends had gained the ability. The ability to morph had come at high price. A very high one. Cassie shook her head, forcing herself to focus back on Celena. Dwelling on that now wasn't exactly helpful.

Cassie smiled in response to Celena's words, grateful that her friend didn't seem angry. < I see. Thank you. I'm sorry for all the questions. I just enjoy learning about other cultures and species. After all, the better that we understand one another, the better we'll all get along. > It was understanding, after all, that led to peace and friendship rather then conflict. < Out of curiosity, can you communicate any other ways? > she added.

Cassie nodded and grinned at Celena, forcing herself to let go of the darker thoughts that seemed to haunt her. For right now, there was no fighting, no pain, no fear, and no immediate reason to worry. There was only the incredible feeling of the air beneath her wings and Celena's excellent company. She was going to enjoy this rare experience and that was that. < I wish that everybody could experience the wonder that is flight at least once. > Then she hesitated a moment as another thought crossed her mind. < Although I suppose that could end up frustrating people more then helping them. After all, the experience would have to end eventually and that could leave them disappointed. >

< Thank you, > Cassie said softly with a grateful smile. It was nice to be able to talk to Celena like this and she was thrilled to have this opportunity to learn more about her new friend. < That kind of ability would certainly be helpful. So many misunderstandings seem to happen because we can't read each other well enough. > A soft chuckle escaped her lips. < Sometimes I feel like we should just write on our foreheads precisely what we're feeling. Think of all the time and grief that could be saved! I suppose that wouldn't work out all that well in the long run though. >
