Enchanted Aquatica---the Prom [WIDE OPEN Y'ALL]

The day had finally arrived for her big event, and Starfire couldn't be happier---or more nervous, actually. She was certainly not an expert on the inner workings of a prom, but it couldn't be too terribly complicated, right? As long as the people could eat, dance, and talk, it should be a reasonable success.

With that in mind, her decorations sprung from her mind into the large dome all around her, transforming a grey Sensorium into a beautiful underwater world, one with clear waters and free from the possibility of a shark attack.

The first change was the scent of the air, shifting into the comforting salty scent of the seas. Then the ground beneath her feet became a hardened sandstone, maintaining the gritty texture while remaining easy to walk upon---except for the smooth dance floor, of course. The grey dome transformed into a flowing bluish-green, rippling all around with fish of all colors passing in the background. Some of the 'sky' faded into a violet tone over the dance floor, lit by glowing circular lights in every color. Suspended in midair, they almost looked like motionless fireflies, though they sometimes swayed in tune with songs.

Tables arose from coral in all colors, rising from the ground and twisting to provide a flattened surface on the very top---rounded ones for guests, and long tables off to the side containing shell-bowls of food. Chairs were large floating clam shells with well cushioned interiors, some large enough to hold two people. More comfortable spongy places to sit were also littered across the area, notably by the large shell-shaped enclosure that was the promised swimming pool. It too was lit by the floating lights, providing what she hoped was a romantic atmosphere.

Finally, the glowing stage above the dance floor couldn't help but attract attention with its chairs. Six royal thrones and one plush chair of all colors directly in the middle rested in the back of the stage, leaving the front open for announcements. Just off to the side of the stage stood the DJ's table, with even that machine painted to match the soft underwater glow of the scenery.

Everything finally seemed pleasing to Starfire. With one last change, dressing herself in the formal attire of the prom, she sent out the signal to everyone and waited. She hoped they would have a wonderful time.

She didn't understand where a song came into the conversation, but she figured it had something to do with where she came from.

Shaking her head at the latter comment, she eyed her curiously. "No, I'm afraid I'm still fairly new to everything that goes on aboard the ship. Repodding? And why wouldn't we have schedules? Isn't that a key factor in a military setting to keep things organized?"

"It's to do with this medium the ship is traveling through. The Bleed, the space between the dimensions. According to the ship, being here can cause people's souls (the ship calls them avia) to erode, and the only cure for this erosion is to be put back into the pods.

"People are constantly being taken into a subsection of the ship that is not accessible otherwise, and tested to see if their avia are in danger. So," a shrug and a sigh, "people disappear, with no warning, and can be gone for any period of time including indefinitely."

"That, plus the difficulty of getting an accurate reading as to exactly how much time is passing or has passed - another side effect of the Bleed, I suspect - and, well, people try. They do try. The departments can usually keep some sort of schedule and staffing going, but there's nothing shipwide at this point."

"I see..." This sounded more complicated by the minute and just increased her suspicions on the ship. Just what was the ship exactly? And what's this bleed that it travels through?

Though Satella was no savvy in the ways of the know-how of technology, so even if she tried investigating, she'd be short of nailing any relevant information. All she could do is rely on those that did know... and she disliked relying on others greatly.

"Have there been attempts on 'rescuing' someone from the pods then? If there's people from our worlds still there then..."

"Well, supposedly there is some sort of interference that prevents specific people from being detected down there. And Stacy protects herself from being damaged, and I think that extends to trying to damage or open the pods."

[identity profile] aphephobiaqueen.livejournal.com 2011-08-13 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose that would make sense..." Not that she had any intentions of pod popping anyone, she had left no one back home that she'd be eager to see, so there'd be no point in trying, she was just genuinely curious.

"This is an odd ship indeed, tho I don't think I'm comfortable living inside another living creature... ship... thing."

If Anwei knew that any members of her family were in the pods, she would be planning a selective pod reduction right now. She was hoping that they were all dead. Again. Still.

"I've lived in ships that were sentient, though they were not organic-based. I've generally enjoyed their company. They are very good of keeping track of everything at once, especially tiny scattered details that can add up to disaster if you don't catch them in time. Although Stacy isn't quite as perceptive as she could be; she suffered some damage in the past."

She thought fondly of those days when an AI would monitor your every meal, your every breath, and know even before you did if you were going to be sick or bored or overextended. It had not been freedom - it had been a long way from freedom - but she had felt oh, so safe then.

"Damaged? Was there an assault on the ship?" It was something that she'd been wondering, since they weren't exactly on pleasant terms with whatever these Ohm were.

[identity profile] 8wings.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
"There was. We don't have all the details, but the ship was attacked by pirates. The Daligig crew - we don't know why they weren't able to repel the pirates, but they deliberately damaged the ship's systems so that she couldn't be taken over - we think. Or possibly so that she couldn't be resold."

"There's a recording (http://trans-9.livejournal.com/160501.html?thread=12472565#t12472565) of the first conversation that the - pod crew? Current crew? - had with Stacy, once the pirates were driven off. It's in the Media Library, and should be easy to find."

[identity profile] aphephobiaqueen.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll keep that in mind, that's information I would like to go over."

She frowned, "It's not surprising that there's other threats other than the massive threat to everyone's worlds and realities. No matter what world or universe it is, sentient beings will have their personal gain as their priority over anything else."

[identity profile] 8wings.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Media Library has everything we know." At least she hoped so. Maybe somone needed to set up an oral history project, go around and interview people who might know things and not realize what they knew was important. Get it all into one format, start analyzing it.

"Looters," she agreed bitterly. "A shame to space. Even if they did look at Stacy and see wealth that would carry them their entire lives, what good does that do if your universe is ripped out from under you?"

[identity profile] aphephobiaqueen.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Satella nodded, a bitter grimace on her face. "It doesn't matter where you go, it seems certain vermin still thrive."

She let out a small sigh and looked down at the water. They were supposed to be enjoying this festivity, and yet the looming danger of the war they were in never ceased to burden her mind, and she knew she wasn't the only one.

"I appreciate the information, I'll make sure I pass by the media library then. I'd like to be as knowledgeable as possible to better understand the war and our enemies."

[identity profile] 8wings.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied. The more we all know, the better we can be prepared."

"If more people followed such words, I am sure things would be better," she replied with a nod.
