Enchanted Aquatica---the Prom [WIDE OPEN Y'ALL]

The day had finally arrived for her big event, and Starfire couldn't be happier---or more nervous, actually. She was certainly not an expert on the inner workings of a prom, but it couldn't be too terribly complicated, right? As long as the people could eat, dance, and talk, it should be a reasonable success.

With that in mind, her decorations sprung from her mind into the large dome all around her, transforming a grey Sensorium into a beautiful underwater world, one with clear waters and free from the possibility of a shark attack.

The first change was the scent of the air, shifting into the comforting salty scent of the seas. Then the ground beneath her feet became a hardened sandstone, maintaining the gritty texture while remaining easy to walk upon---except for the smooth dance floor, of course. The grey dome transformed into a flowing bluish-green, rippling all around with fish of all colors passing in the background. Some of the 'sky' faded into a violet tone over the dance floor, lit by glowing circular lights in every color. Suspended in midair, they almost looked like motionless fireflies, though they sometimes swayed in tune with songs.

Tables arose from coral in all colors, rising from the ground and twisting to provide a flattened surface on the very top---rounded ones for guests, and long tables off to the side containing shell-bowls of food. Chairs were large floating clam shells with well cushioned interiors, some large enough to hold two people. More comfortable spongy places to sit were also littered across the area, notably by the large shell-shaped enclosure that was the promised swimming pool. It too was lit by the floating lights, providing what she hoped was a romantic atmosphere.

Finally, the glowing stage above the dance floor couldn't help but attract attention with its chairs. Six royal thrones and one plush chair of all colors directly in the middle rested in the back of the stage, leaving the front open for announcements. Just off to the side of the stage stood the DJ's table, with even that machine painted to match the soft underwater glow of the scenery.

Everything finally seemed pleasing to Starfire. With one last change, dressing herself in the formal attire of the prom, she sent out the signal to everyone and waited. She hoped they would have a wonderful time.

Splicer chuckled and leaned over the deck. "If you keep doing that you'll go deaf." He motioned him over to the booth. "Come over here, you'll enjoy it better."

Nokosi looked up and grinned at the familiar face. "I see. It was not as bad as the others so I was not as worried as I should have been. Tell me, Splicer. What is the name for this device?" he questioned, poking the box.

"Those are speakers. They come in all shapes and sizes and different tasks. Tho most of 'em are to amplify sound or deliver the soundwaves from a device attached to 'em." He tried to keep it simple and not get into the technicalities of it all.

"I see." He took up Splicer's offer and climbed up to the man's current position in his booth. His eyes literally lit up when he saw all the levers, switches, knobs and blinking lights on the DJ equipment. Excitement filled his voice, he knew enough to retrain himself from touching said buttons and knobs.

For now.

"What are all these splendid contraptions for?!"

The full explanation would probably be lost on his friend, even as Splicer chuckled at his excitement. There was something about the dude that could cheer anyone up.

"They all enhance and modify the music in different ways. Making it better or mixing in different tracks together to make better or new ones. They also add effects and can alter the music as it's playing."

He gave a little example as he mixed and scratched one of the songs currently playing.

That sound...what was that amazing, glorious mishmash of music that Splicer was creating? His lengthy ears perked at the new sounds that poured from the speakers and he whirled around to face his friend.

"You are a master of this form of music? I like it!"

The elf stood still for a few moments longer, eyes screwed shut as he listened to Splicer work his skills. He just had to get his fill of this brand of sound so he could properly remember it at a later time.

Splicer laughed, "I do enjoy it greatly. There's many types of music to work with this, and the combinations you can create after that are infinite."

He made sure to give him a good show so that he could fully enjoy the sounds he himself enjoyed so much.

"Ah, I see! Is this something that you engaged in many times in your home? It does look like it requires many, many buttons that I want to touch but I am restraining myself from doing so. For now."

He grinned sheepishly. "I do not wish to ruin such a thing for Ronnae."

"I did, on my free time. Either music or video games. Those were my passion outside of work. And I can totally teach you whenever you have some free time." He smiled, "I'm sure she appreciates a thoughtful friend as yourself."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose she does!" The elf exclaimed with a shrug of his shoulders. He knew she did; she said as much often enough.

"But if you will teach me your craft," he said, hands clasped together. "I will be very grateful to you!" There were practically stars shining in his eyes at the prospect. He had to do this!

It was silly though, he knew. He loved learning new things, even if he were bad or mediocre at them, except for reading. Reading offered a window to learn even more things, but he just found it so bothersome.

He chuckled and gave him a thumbs up, "You got it then. Jus' pass by my pad whenever you're free or send me a message on the omnicomm. I'm usually there, the hangar or in the sensoriums."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Whether his friend was comfortable with it or not, he was receiving a fairly weak bear hug from an overly cheerful elf with nothing but free time on his hands.

"I do not know how to use the omnicomm," he said suddenly, some of the energy deflating from him. "I usually use it to draw line-animals. But!" The wide, toothy smile was back.

"I can ask Ronnae to do so for me! She might enjoy it as well."

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Splicer returned the hug and nodded, "That sounds like a plan. She's welcome to join if she'd like. Could never say no to company yanno?"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Excellent!" He clasped his hands together happily, an ear-to-ear smile stretched across his face.

"I will find you later, then and we will partake in the destruction of 'zombies' and music!"

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Splicer laughed and gave him a thumbs up, "Right on! I'll be lookin' forward to that. I actually added a few more games to the arcade, maybe you can help me test 'em out."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Nokosi looked at the sign Splicer made, then looked at his own hand. Thhe elf returned the thumbs up and nodded excitedly.

"Indeed. I will be listening to the interested sounds you create tonight, so keep working hard," he said before hopping over the side of the booth.

It was another great thing he had to look forward to, soon!
