Enchanted Aquatica---the Prom [WIDE OPEN Y'ALL]
The day had finally arrived for her big event, and Starfire couldn't be happier---or more nervous, actually. She was certainly not an expert on the inner workings of a prom, but it couldn't be too terribly complicated, right? As long as the people could eat, dance, and talk, it should be a reasonable success.
With that in mind, her decorations sprung from her mind into the large dome all around her, transforming a grey Sensorium into a beautiful underwater world, one with clear waters and free from the possibility of a shark attack.
The first change was the scent of the air, shifting into the comforting salty scent of the seas. Then the ground beneath her feet became a hardened sandstone, maintaining the gritty texture while remaining easy to walk upon---except for the smooth dance floor, of course. The grey dome transformed into a flowing bluish-green, rippling all around with fish of all colors passing in the background. Some of the 'sky' faded into a violet tone over the dance floor, lit by glowing circular lights in every color. Suspended in midair, they almost looked like motionless fireflies, though they sometimes swayed in tune with songs.
Tables arose from coral in all colors, rising from the ground and twisting to provide a flattened surface on the very top---rounded ones for guests, and long tables off to the side containing shell-bowls of food. Chairs were large floating clam shells with well cushioned interiors, some large enough to hold two people. More comfortable spongy places to sit were also littered across the area, notably by the large shell-shaped enclosure that was the promised swimming pool. It too was lit by the floating lights, providing what she hoped was a romantic atmosphere.
Finally, the glowing stage above the dance floor couldn't help but attract attention with its chairs. Six royal thrones and one plush chair of all colors directly in the middle rested in the back of the stage, leaving the front open for announcements. Just off to the side of the stage stood the DJ's table, with even that machine painted to match the soft underwater glow of the scenery.
Everything finally seemed pleasing to Starfire. With one last change, dressing herself in the formal attire of the prom, she sent out the signal to everyone and waited. She hoped they would have a wonderful time.

The touch to her shoulders was welcome: she sagged slightly into his hold. "I called someone cowardly today, thinking they were able to see that about themselves. AS it turns out, there are simply some things that aren't meant to be told to someone, whether they believe it to be true or not. In this case, I spoke out of turn: now I feel like I hurt someone I care about."

The explanation about hurting the feelings of her friend placed him in an odd position of what would be appropriate to respond to her with. On one hand, he was honest to a fault, which was a way of being that had unintentionally insulted people from time to time. On another, he'd noticed that people rarely liked hearing the truth, even if it were plain as day. That didn't necessarily make it wrong to say...only lacking 'tact', as far as social situations were concerned.
He hummed once as he contemplated what to tell Kaya, thinking for a moment what he would have done in that situation.
"I believe that the appropriate thing would be to discuss things over with this friend of yours. If you are feeling hurt about it, then he surely is as well. I do not think either of you would want the other to suffer. By speaking, perhaps you will come to an understanding behind you thinking that he is cowardly, and he, himself believing it as well. You might gain some insight and become closer, as things are rarely as they appear on the surface."

And Kaya had understood that too: a long time ago, she had been able to be around people all the time. But one thing she had understood, especially when it came to Nokosi, was that he would tell her the truth whether she liked it or not. She had thought Howard had been that way too, and that mistake might have cost her a friend. It hurt her to think that they might not be able to talk and laugh like they had before.
"I was trying, but I don't think now would be the best time to do it. He's' been through a lot in the past few days, and I managed to say the worst thing to him at the worst time. He's a strong guy, and I don't want to lose him as a friend."
no subject
He hugged her closer to him in an effort to both show compassion for her plight and offer her the warmth of a comforting embrace.
"If he values your friendship, which I would assume he does, given that he was upset by your words, you will not lose the friend you cherish so much. Perhaps it might take time for him to forgive you, but that is to be expected."
no subject
She didn't like him in THAT way, of course, but she liked him enough to be bothered they had a fight at all. She hugged back, her pulse racing a little more.
"I'll just have to see what happens. In the meantime, I still want to try and enjoy what time we have here. I want you to know...I had a really wonderful time tonight, thanks to you."
no subject
"Indeed? I am...rather pleased to hear such." Nokosi raised a hand and extended a finger, touching the outer ring of her earlobe gently. He brought his finger slowly around the contour of her ear and then down alongside her jawline, delighting in the softness of her skin.
"I do not think I deserve credit for making your night wonderful, but I will agree on it being a fantastic time thus far. I am both glad and lucky that you asked me to such a thing."
He pressed his hands together and bowed so low that his hair began coiling on the sandstone floor. "I thank you for thinking of me."
no subject
And with the touch to the earlobe that slid to the jawline, it actually cut Kaya off, and a slight shudder went through her skin. She knew that Nokosi had no idea that he was doing something that was fairly intimate, not was he likely aware of the fact that it was making Kaya feel so funny.
She could only ignore the signs for so long.
"I didn't want it to be with anyone but you," she said, clearing her voice, as she sounded slightly nervous when she said it.

Nokosi's fingers smoothed down the length of her neck, before curling around the side to rest at the nape, beneath her hair. He bowed his head, bringing it closer to hers but abruptly stopped; a funny, little smile appearing on his lips.
While he was fairly sure Kaya wasn't going to try and shove a fireball down his throat, or the water bender equivalent, he knew Ronnae wouldn't hesitate to beat him silly for simply doing what occurred to him, regardless of the positive or negative consequences.
He tightened his lips, deciding that he would rather not be punched for disregarding the thoughts of others. With a soft laugh, he turned his attention back to Kaya.
"I am warning you now that I plan to kiss you. If you are opposed to such, you should say so in the next few seconds."
There. That solved everything, right? Right!
The only other icon I have is Kaya kissing a girl so...
And there was the touching again, but Kaya could feel her heart beating in her throat a bit, and she was starting to let the facade of him just being a really nice friend fall. She would hold back if she had to, but the way this was happening, everything was just starting to fall into place.
Her skin felt a little hotter, and once he raised his eyes to her, she could feel the pull in his gaze, and her hands reached out, touching his hair. When the next words came out of his mouth, what he was saying exactly what she wanted to hear, there was no need for hesitation on her part. Her hands cupped his chin and pulled him toward her, taking his lips in hers, and pressing against him.
Ahaha, it's all good.
Although he took his time to explore the entirety of her pursed lips and the simple motion that was a kiss, the embrace was still marked by his inexperience with the action.
His eyes were closed--more as a means to shut out the blue-green glow from the water overhead and the dazzling lights and sounds from the prom down the hall, than that of kissing etiquette. Those things were becoming more and more distant with every moment that passed, until they didn't exist at all for him.
The only thing that he was aware of was his own mind that not only enjoyed the warmth and wellspring of good feelings that arose from their embrace, but also reminded him just how satisfying it was when feelings and actions were reciprocated.
Re: Ahaha, it's all good.
And she HAD been lying to herself, knowing full well that at any point, Nokosi might back away and say she had misinterpreted his meanings, that he simply was more affectionate in Azeroth. Sos he had preferred being with him, staying with him. But now, there was no misinterpreting this.
So instead she held his hands and let that feeling of love and comfort surround them, opening her lips wider, exploring his lips, her hands moving to his neck.

He took a moment to trace the inner contour of her lips with his tongue before moving on to running it against the top row of her teeth. Once he was satisfied at the feel of the different surfaces, he folded his tongue against hers, noting the comforting warmth it offered.
The illusion of their relative seclusion broke when he withdrew his mouth from hers and his eyes fluttered open. Cold air rushed to fill the space between their separated bodies, though his still felt nice and toasty. A pink tongue darted out to swipe over his lips, removing the last, lingering taste of her mouth as he stared down at her now, wondering just what her reaction to this whole thing would be.

And when they let go, finally, she stared into his eyes, long, intensely. He could have said "just joking" right now and really dashed her, she knew that, but it was worth it to share this moment, just the two of them. She had vague imprints of what entailed romance: Katara and Aang, from her perspective, the short time with Matt, but this felt real, strong.
She gave him a smile. "I wanted to do that for longer than you think," she admitted.

Truth be told, he, himself had simply taken a chance at her emotions; one that paid off in the long run. In his experience, showing interest in a friend who didn't return the favor tended to alienate them in some form or another. While being turned down never seemed to bother him, it was annoyingly exhaustive dealing with all the pity they tended to shoot his way as a result.
He was thankful things didn't turn out that way, if only for the combination of pity and sympathetic apologies from her, Ronnae and Billy would have been overly troublesome. That, and being turned down really, really sucked.
"You should have just taken a chance," he finally said, a mischievous grin now spanning from ear to ear. "I would not have thought less of you for it."
no subject
She knew being turned down, being told she had seen more than was actually present, would have hurt her deeply. So she just returned the smile, taking his hand,
"And make you think I'm just a scarred, scared girl transferring my feelings? No...I want you to realize my feelings were for real."
no subject
"I would not have thought that." Nokosi smirked, eyebrows drawn in skepticism. "First and foremost, 'scarred and scared' are not words that befit you, so believing for a moment that you would be that type of girl is just silly."
He held up a hand, two fingers extended to represent his points. "Secondly, Matt and I are two very different people." The elf gave her an odd look that was replaced with a smile moments later. "If you were seeing all of him in me, then I would be far more worried about your mental state than my feelings on such a thing."
"Thirdly, who cares if you had?" he said, coolly. "It would just mean that I would have a challenge...no, an adventure on my hands! One in which the treasure at the end would be winning over your affections."
He shrugged a shoulder and regarded her with a side-long glance. "I would not have minded. Everyone knows that the things one wants the most are usually the most difficult to attain. It is why they are worth so much effort."
no subject
"Well, thanks," she said, looking a little embarrassed with herself. "But I wouldn't compare you to Matt or vice versa. You're both very different people, and you both mean something different to me. You don't have to worry about me comparing the two of you, believe me."
There was no hiding the smile on her face. "I feel the same way, if this had resulted in nothing. When I'm with you, all of my problems seem to just fade, and instead I just like talking and laughing with you. It was small at first, but the longer I spent time with you, the more I was beginning to understand that's what I was feeling. Today...well, today I'm honest with myself, and you."

It was probably a good and bad thing that he could conjure up so little care for certain situations. While it undoubtedly made it easier simply living the way he wanted, it also reduced the chance to experience some interesting emotions.
"I am glad to hear such a thing," he remarked, very preoccupied with the texture of her hair along his fingers and the scent that lingered to it. Now that things had gone down this particular path, he could be his normal, odd, little self without the troublesome consequences of making things impossibly awkward on Kaya.
"I concur with you, though. I do enjoy our time together, speaking on anything and everything or doing nothing at all. It has given me insight into certain situations that I would not have thought of before."
Nokosi took that moment to close the distance between them and nestle his head in the crook of her neck. He nuzzled his cheek from her shoulder, up her neck, to her ear and back, his mouth tickling the soft skin there every once in awhile. Once he seemed satisfied with that, he brushed his lips against her collarbone and placed a barely-there kiss in the hollow of her neck before working his way up and to her ear. Once there, he pressed a firm kiss on her ear, then another against her temple.

She had thought about this for a little while, about what happened after Matt was gone. She thought she would concentrate on her nursing duties and training, but even then after deciding that, she would always make time for him.
"Certain situations?" she asked. "Like what?"
The separation between them rapidly disappearing, she brought a hand to his neck, all too aware of the goosebumps and shiver that ran up her back at his touch. It had been awhile since she'd felt this, and with his lips from her face to her neck, her hands found his hair and took the opportunity to run her fingers through the tresses, finding his ears with its many baubles. She ran her ear lightly along the tip, around and then the side of his neck, then closed her eyes and exhaled.

Beneath her caress his ear wiggled, both because the light motion tickled and it was a source of relaxation for him. His own hands rested against her back, fingers lazily drawing circles against the cloth.
He hadn't forgotten that there was still dancing to be done and a large area to explore, but he really couldn't help himself from taking just a little more affection.
no subject
At this moment, of course, they could take as much time as they wanted.
More shivers again from the hands at her back, and she finally released herself from his grip, but in a slow way, just to show him exactly how her body was protesting moving away from his warmth.
"W-we should get back to dancing again," she said, her voice much more hoarse than she had anticipated.
no subject
"Oh! Oh, yes." A soft laugh escaped his lips and he nodded his head in agreement. "You are right! There is still much more to do and I believe I owe Ronnae a dance as well."

And she would keep what she learned about Ronnae from Billy to herself, though she doubted now it would even be an issue.
