Enchanted Aquatica---the Prom [WIDE OPEN Y'ALL]

The day had finally arrived for her big event, and Starfire couldn't be happier---or more nervous, actually. She was certainly not an expert on the inner workings of a prom, but it couldn't be too terribly complicated, right? As long as the people could eat, dance, and talk, it should be a reasonable success.

With that in mind, her decorations sprung from her mind into the large dome all around her, transforming a grey Sensorium into a beautiful underwater world, one with clear waters and free from the possibility of a shark attack.

The first change was the scent of the air, shifting into the comforting salty scent of the seas. Then the ground beneath her feet became a hardened sandstone, maintaining the gritty texture while remaining easy to walk upon---except for the smooth dance floor, of course. The grey dome transformed into a flowing bluish-green, rippling all around with fish of all colors passing in the background. Some of the 'sky' faded into a violet tone over the dance floor, lit by glowing circular lights in every color. Suspended in midair, they almost looked like motionless fireflies, though they sometimes swayed in tune with songs.

Tables arose from coral in all colors, rising from the ground and twisting to provide a flattened surface on the very top---rounded ones for guests, and long tables off to the side containing shell-bowls of food. Chairs were large floating clam shells with well cushioned interiors, some large enough to hold two people. More comfortable spongy places to sit were also littered across the area, notably by the large shell-shaped enclosure that was the promised swimming pool. It too was lit by the floating lights, providing what she hoped was a romantic atmosphere.

Finally, the glowing stage above the dance floor couldn't help but attract attention with its chairs. Six royal thrones and one plush chair of all colors directly in the middle rested in the back of the stage, leaving the front open for announcements. Just off to the side of the stage stood the DJ's table, with even that machine painted to match the soft underwater glow of the scenery.

Everything finally seemed pleasing to Starfire. With one last change, dressing herself in the formal attire of the prom, she sent out the signal to everyone and waited. She hoped they would have a wonderful time.

"You could certainly say that (and boy, don't I know what it's like)," she thought with a barely suppressed huff.

"But I've been well (as well as could be on an inter-dimensional, living ship that's coasting the cosmos). At least so much so that I've come out of my usual hiding spot. And you?"

Kaya chose this moment to walk over to Nokosi, crown and cape and all, extending her hands. This had been fun, and she was more than happy to be given this honor, but the night wouldn't be complete without dancing, one of her favorite hobbies.

"Might I have this dance, good sir?" She asked, giving him a polite curtsy.

"In that case you must be close to moving at the speed of light," Billy gasped, feeling just a little disoriented by the rush. "You were already almost impossible to keep up with."

That said, he could...swim. Somehow. He wandered from her side and tested directional movement each way, then underwater for down and up. Some floundering at first was unavoidable, but he was soon navigating about as well as he had with legs.

"It gives us half the advantage of a fish in the water," he noted, "but without the other half of losing our arms and turning into fully fledged fish, we won't be able to move much further. Not that I want to," he rushed out.

It's a good feeling, to have people have a little faith in him. His chest puffs up, just a little. "Bombin'. I'll have this joint rockin' in no time."

"Nah, it's not you." It really isn't. Kaya doesn't automatically put him at ease like Zouichi does, but she's friendly enough, almost sisterly. He feels less paranoid around her than he does around most people. "And I don't know why you keep saying I'm in a bad mood. I haven't even said anything mean to anyone yet."

Yet. Some of the fashion here even he recognizes as ugly, and he knows nothing about clothes.

"Well, if I ever wanted to wear heels and break my neck, I'd have to have long pants to cover it, right? God knows I could use the extra few inches. Maybe I could even reach the top shelf of bandages in the Med Bay."

Re: SPEECH?

Kaya got up from the throne. Billy had said quite a bit, and it would be hard to top what he said, but she would do her best. She cleared her throat, but she would do her best.

"Thank you for this honor: I only came here to enjoy my first prom, I never expected this to happen. But I want to say: you all have made life on this ship better. It could be bad, and there have been many people we had to say goodbye to. But they all have made memories I'll always remember, and this one? I wouldn't trade it for anything. No matter what happens from here on in, I'll always remember this, with all of you here, and hope we can make many more wonderful memories. Now, let's have fun!"

She smiled at Billy and Ronnae, then Negi and Sasami and Shoutarou and Zuko, and then she gave a pointed look at Nokosi.

"Very simple, really. Not being of noble blood. It is something that is very important, apparently." Okay, and well he didn't even try to dress the part, either. Though there were those few times that..."I do not think that I looked the part of a noble very convincingly," he confessed with a laugh.

Her question about dancing, though, was an interesting one. No, he wasn't very good at dancing but since he had the blessing of preparation time, he'd spent many of his waking hours in the Media Library, scouring through dance style after dance style after dance style. He finally found one that followed his own heart.

"I will admit that I am not very good, but I do know of a dance." Somewhat.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
He returned her curtsy with a bow of his own before grasping her hands and flashing her a cheery grin. "Yes you may, but I might question why it is that that one of this ocean's princesses decided that they would want to dance with one of us of the common sea life."

This would probably end up both great and terrible, and he was going to be happy either way. Of all the dances that he poured over at the media library, one in particular caught his eye. Swing dancing from one of the many, many records of an 'Earth'. He wasn't very good at it yet, but damn it if he didn't have the deftness and energy to pull off some of those moves.

Hopefully Kaya did, too.

"A little while," Patsy said. "Not too long. I mean, I was back when there was that marriage world thing, and then I was gone, and now I'm back," she said. "I'm...kind of seeing Daimon Hellstrom now."

There was a highs pitched whistle from Peter's spot on the floor, and a whole lot of clapping.

"Way to go Starfire!"

Ah, prom. Sumeragi was more than familiar with the idea, though she had never actually been to one. She had been a gawky teenager, and being two years younger than the rest of her high school class had done nothing to help that, so she had spent the evening of her senior prom holed up in an arcade with a handful of friends who felt likewise.

Now that she was older - the whole thing stunk of naive idealism and the giddy happiness of youth, which a small, bitter part of her hated. That they could be so happy. But... that's what she fought for. For a place where people could be naive and idealistic and happy and all of those things. So she wouldn't begrudge them this.

And, well, she was never going to pass up a chance for a good time and a bit of drinking. She'd 'liberated' two bottles of wine - jugs, really - from the tavern, with a number of promises that she'd bring the jugs back. The glasses might have been figments of her imagination given form, but at least the booze was real. She had even dressed up - easy when you didn't actually have to go shopping, really. The dress's plunging neckline served to show off some of her best assets, and it flared off after the gathered waist, trailing down to floor length. Good for dancing in, should she decide to do so.

"Don't make me have to take you under my wing, Howard. Let me put it this way: I even had a girlfriend's mom ask me to take her to prom." God, he sounded old, he thought to himself. "And am I ever. She's never even gone to normal school, let alone to prom, so this would be really special for her." He tried to keep the memory a bit lighthearted, but he couldn't help but go back to dancing lessons he gave her before their wedding.

"Pffffh flatterer," she replied as she grabbed a microphone. "Hey everyone! This is an oldie... that is even oldier because it was old before I was born. So that makes it super old."

Wanda blinked.

Well, that was... unexpected. Wanda didn't know the self proclaimed Son of Satan very well. Her beliefs were more closely aligned with wicca than Christianity. She knew there had been several incidents with Daimon but that had been beyond his control.

Mostly she was surprised that Patsy would go for that kind of man- the aloof exorcist.

"You are? That's- that's good. I mean, it is good, right? He makes you happy?"

[identity profile] patsy-walker.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
"He does," Patsy said, without missing a beat. She was smiling, though. "I know it's not expected, but apparently...well. Apparently, we get together in the future. And ever since I met him, Wanda, I've just felt so drawn to him. It feels right." She side-eyes Wanda and asked, "Why...do you know something?"
hexyeah: (waking up alone)

[personal profile] hexyeah 2011-08-06 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh no," Wanda replied quickly. "I'm just surprised. I didn't think he would be your type. But then love is like that. It can surprise you and knock you right off your feet." She couldn't help but remember when she first fell in love with Vision. He had been so reserved, so distant. At first she didn't understand the growing feelings inside of her. She certainly wasn't prepared for the intensity of those feelings.

[identity profile] patsy-walker.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
"I didn't think he would be either. I mean, look at me. Little red-haired Patsy Walker from suburban Centerville. Who would've thought that this would be my life back then?" She shrugged. "Thank god my mother's not around. She would have killed to turn this into a comic book."

[identity profile] puny-parker.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Ha! Someone actually did it!" Peter said, punching the air.

[identity profile] puny-parker.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
"And I think first on the list that I'm making up as we go along is that dance that we didn't finish because I freaked out." He said, holding out a hand for her to take.

Wanda's eyebrows went up at the comic book comment. "A comic book? Well, we are super heroes. But this isn't how I imagined my life either." She paused. "Is your mother a writer?"

[identity profile] patsy-walker.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Writer, hack, same thing these days," Patsy said. "She wrote comics based on the lives of my friends and myself," she added. "It was...well. It could have gone better, I suppose," she continued. Her eyes had darkened at the memory of her mother, though. "She was very overbearing, my mother was. It wasn't very easy, having Patsy Walker comics, and Patsy & Hedy comics sold all around me." She shrugged. "As my mother would have me say in the comics, she was a total drip."

Beastboy let out a breaking cracking noise from the enthusastic hug, but it wasn't his first time being crushed by Star's affection so he rolled with it.

"I dunno, I was kinda hoping she'd find me." He confessed. At least Star believed him. If he told Peter this he'd probably say Beastboy made her up.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
One eyebrow furrowed while the other raised. His lips drew to one side and he regarded her with a flat, bored look. Yes, all that skepticism is just for her.

"The only way you could embarrass Billy is by carrying on with a negative attitude."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, now you're just being ridiculous," Kaya said, sticking out her tongue. "I just take to my element very well, you know that!"

"Oh, I agree," Kaya said. "The advantage of arms is that we have them to steer in the water, and the main straight away of movement comes from the tail. That's why its so daunting at first, but then you realize in water, having a tail is like having a sort of bump in speed It's much more convenient than having legs since they were made for water!"

"Yet?" Even this did not go missing by Kaya "And what would you say about some of the people here that would be mean, besides comparing my dress to something that some bird would wear? Well, I think its a bird, right?"

It sounded like a bird name, or otherwise it was something that sounded rude. Peacock.

"Long pants would make it worse, not better. First off you'd have to actually know how to walk in feels to do it, and that itself can be hard. So long pants? Not exactly a great idea. That's why woman wearing heels will usually be wearing a skirt, more freedom of movement."

She giggled. "I know what you mean! I'm not exactly tall myself."
