Post Mission Party At The Bar

Its time to unwind, relax and receive news of home. A pod pop occurred while some were on a mission and it's time to meet up with new friends, drink well with old, and relax. The Drunken Dragon has opened its doors and stands ready and willing to assist in forgetting the trials those on the mission experienced.

OOC: If you want a specific barmaid, just put their name in the subject. Otherwise, enjoy, intermingle and do as you like.

Kaya had decided to pour over her new nursing guidelines at the Drunken Dragon, politely asking the barmaid to keep the mead coming, as she preferred it to beer right now. She had for several months now given up the idea of trying to make her own beer: who had the time? She was already training wherever she could, reading as a hobby, and now being a nurse was going to be taking up quite a bit of her time. A part of her was quietly scolding, saying that she was throwing herself into this to avoid feeling bad about Matt, but she didn't have any time to listen to THAT either.

Matt was gone, and as hurtful as that was, she still had tons to do, and could at least make sure everyone on the bus was looked after, as he would have done.

So anyone approaching would see Kaya reading and writing things down in her newly obtained nursing packet, looking busy.

Despite the events that usually carried on in places like The Blue Recluse and the Slaughtered Lamb, Nokosi really had missed his time ducking in and out of the bars and taverns in Ironforge and Stormwind. The drunks always had the best stories, even if they were heavily padded with layer upon layer of fiction, with truth stretched so thin that an Ogre would question the authenticity of the tale.

The longing for the bustling, loud and generally cheery mood was why he found himself here, today. He hadn't planned to really drink much, lest he find himself in a string of awkward situations, but the atmosphere was what he was looking for, anyways.

Taking a quick glance around the homey bar, he spotted the back of a head that he recognized. Kaya looked fairly busy--not that that deterred him one bit.

Nokosi took long, languid strides to the table she occupied and sat himself down in a nearby seat but didn't utter a word. Instead, he leaned over to view what it was she was reading.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Kaya was still anxiously working, making notes in margins, organizing what she would be reading next and when, and found that the mead was already running low. She had a slight buzz going on, but nothing too severe, so she asked for another round. It was at that point she noticed that someone was reading over her shoulder, and looked up.

"Oh, Nokosi, hi!" Kaya said, brightening immediately. "I meant to find you! How have you been?"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
His eyes lingered on the text, even as he was addressed. He'd been mouthing the words in the book, attempting to sound them out with his elementary level of literacy.

After a small stretch of silence, he finally looked towards Kaya, his smile mirroring her own.

"I have been as well as could be expected at this current point in time. I would say the same for Fontaine, since he is not here." Fontaine did like bars just as much as he, but for an entirely different reason. Barmaids and free scraps of food.

"And you? Busy as usual, I see."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiled as she watched him mouthing the words. She had been trying to help him as often as she could, but she had gotten far busier than she had expected, what with training with Morgan and now with Rory, but she made time when she could.

"I've been ok, as much as I can be while I'm busy with nursing. Hey, I meant to ask you a question: have you heard of that Prom that we're having soon? It's apparently this dance people have when they're old enough in school."

She smiled. "Would you like to come with me?"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
He bobbed his head once in knowing. "Ronnae has told me of it. It is a greater deal different than what I know of a 'ball', though." Especially the music they had. He didn't know quite what to think about that, just yet.

"But of course I will go with you, though I must admit that I do not know what to expect. Perhaps I should speak with you and Ronnae about what is 'common' in such situations and events."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Kaya laughed. "I've been interested in it ever since my friend Nura started to tell me about it. It's not a ball though: Matt's shown me what a ball is like, and I've actually been to a few of them myself. It's more of a relaxed gathering to dance and have fun!"

She leave off the part about expectation of fornication later: Nokosi didn't need to know that.

"It doesn't seem too terribly hard, from what I've learned. You bring your date some sort of wreath of flowers to wear on her hand, you arrive, you mingle, then you dance! I can definitely show you the finer points of dancing if you're lacking: its become something of a specialty for me."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
He dropped his head slightly, eyes shooting back to the book she had been pouring over earlier. "I think I will need to be educated on certain points of dancing that is appropriate for such and event, though. I have been shown by Ronnae the basics of what is known as 'ballroom dancing', but I do not think that knowledge will do me any good here."

Nokosi rose his gaze back to her face gave a sharp nod. "Flowers...then mingling and dancing," he repeated, as if going over a list in his mind. "Yes, I think I can do that. What is your favorite color, so that I may know which ones I should collect?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I can totally do that with you, trust me," Kaya said. "From what I've seen from earth customs, its something that you do spontaneously, in certain ways. It isn't important to try and keep decorum since it will have a theme, so o ball room dancing. I suppose it will depend on the music, but I've actually heard several different types of music, so we shouldn't be lacking here!"

She grinned. "Yup! Sounds fun, doesn't it? And really Nokosi, I thought you would have figured it out by now! My favorite color is blue!"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
"I see. Well, I suppose that will not worry me at all, then," he said, eyes wandering the length of the bar. "What is the theme of this 'prom'?"

After he'd surveyed every small nook and any off-centered objects that he cared to view, his eyes finally settled back on her. A smile rose to his at her words and he placed his long arms on the sturdy table and folded one over the other.

"Now that you say that, it does make the most sense. I would have guessed it was white, though."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I believe the theme is going to be underwater, so you have the option of swimming if you want. I'm also going to be helping Starfire with it, so I'll give you all the information as it comes, ok? Thanks for coming with me!"

She quirked an eyebrow. His smile was definitely worth looking at, but she was definitely curious about his answer. "White? Why that color?"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"You do not need to thank me for accompanying you to some place. It sounds as if it would be fun."

He shrugged one shoulder but still went on to explain. "You spoke of your home in the north, and though you are a water bender, I imagine that most of the scenery were wide expanses of ivory, towering, jagged icebergs and crystal-like glaciers. Not only is it a memory of a home that conjures up warm feelings, despite the very cold weather, you also mentioned that you are very fond of snow."

Nokosi rested his head against his folded arms, his hair coiling on the table beside him. "Besides that, you also have an affinity for the moon and not just because it increases your abilities. For these reasons, I would have guessed white."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I wasn't sure if it was someplace you wanted to go," Kaya said, looking a little sheepish. "I think its fun, I just hope you feel the same when you're there."

She listened, thinking. "Well yes when you put it that way, I guess that it makes sense. Still, even though I'm surrounded by white, it was really blue that would catch my eye. It always seemed to catch my eye a bit more than the white, since it was always the most dominant color. Besides, I think of white as being an airbender color because of the clouds. But yes, the Northern Water Tribe does have its share of white everywhere."

The moon white? She always thought of it more gray, really.

"And you scold me about bringing work to tavern gatherings," Billy's voice said softly, hiding his own datapad behind his back as if it was never there.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Kaya stuck her tongue out at him, feeling a little impertinent. "If there's anyone that needs to cut loose at a tavern, its you Billy," Kaya said. "Besides, I was just given a bit more work to add to managing the Outsiders, my med bay regular duties along with cleaning and helping Nokosi with reading. I figure I should take any opportunity to lighten the load."
morphitudinous: (Back of a head)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-07-31 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Believe me, I understand," Billy nodded, poking at the datapads he carried. "Is there anything I can help you with there?"

He was still wary about 'letting loose', especially with what was now on his mind.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a bunch of training for being a nurse," Kaya said, thumbing through some of the information, taking another drink from her cup of mead. "I should be ok, I think."

She looked at his data pad. "What brings you here?"
morphitudinous: (Figuring it out)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-07-31 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know you will, Kaya. You have the gift, all the procedure shouldn't be too difficult for you."

Billy looked around at the gathered crowd, smiling at familiar and new faces. It was good to see everyone recovering somewhat. "I wanted to see for myself that everyone was all right after what had happened. It'll likely be the last big gathering before prom," he noted, making a face. That was definitely bound to be an interesting night.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Even having gifts mean that things aren't going to come naturally," Kaya said, "But thank you for saying that. I'm going to make sure to do my best to uphold that opinion of me."

She nodded. "I know what you mean. I want to check that one of my friends Howard is still ok. This sort of stuff usually bothers him a lot. And yes, I definitely heard about the prom, I nominated you and Ronnae! For some reason though, Overlord was kinda angry I nominated him as jester."
morphitudinous: (Back of a head)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-07-31 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"You will," Billy agreed, understanding that drive to work hard and use talents. It wasn't unusual at all to find him doing the same thing at all hours of the day.

"That's what I'm a little concerned about," he admitted. "You'll make a great princess if you win, Kaya, but I'm not exactly prom king material."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Darn right I will!" She said, taking a long drink of the mead, then putting it down and looking up and down at her work some more. There was quite a lot to learn.

"Me!" Kaya laughed. "Are you kidding? I was the one giving you all this relationship advice, and look at us now! You have a loving, caring woman you live with, and you treat her exactly how any woman would dream to be treated! Look at all the relationships on this ship, and how long they've lasted. You and Ronnae are special, and you should be recognized for that!"
morphitudinous: (...what in the name of)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-08-01 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Billy offered her a high-five, impressed by her spirit. "Absolutely!"

He looked a little sheepish during her explanation, knowing there was some truth there. She was sweet, and it was great, yes, but...

"Me? Kaya, I don't think you understand that I'd never be prom king at home. That would be Tommy and Kimberly, the quintessential perfect couple."

That would explain why Billy felt strange about this. On Earth, it had been all about Tommy and Kimberly, but here...no Tommy. No perfect pair sweeping the nominations, and now he was potentially in this position. How did Kim feel, he wondered.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Kaya laughed, high fiving him back, still a little thrown off by the gesture.

"What does that mean, 'perfect couple?' I think you come as close as a good couple can be, but I don't know how anyone would qualify as a perfect one. But I do see that I've seen the two of you grow, being caring and wonderful with each other. That's as sloe to perfect as I think you can get, if you had to give it a name."
morphitudinous: (A majestic unicorn?)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-08-01 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not technically true, of course," Billy said quietly. "You're right nothing is ever perfect, but it's a common descriptor for happy couples. The ones who are visibly spending time together, enamored with each other, and almost always smiling. Kimberly had that in Tommy---it led to fights sometimes, but when they were at their best it was perfect for the team."

Billy then became aware that Kimberly might prefer that she share this information herself someday, so he veered away from that track. "Ronnie and I...well, yes, we're delighted with each other. I'm proud of us, and I still can't believe I gained some of my happiness back. But I guess I never thought others were paying attention."

He liked his privacy, he really did, but he'd been slacking off in that department.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well sure, but when I think of couples, I don't think of who just looks the best. I always think of the ones who overcome the things about themselves they don't like, who find each other and just make it work. If you guys get voted in, I think you'll deserve it for that reason. I think others will see that too."

She nodded. "Of course they were! Like I said, there are precious few couples on the ship, and the only one I think that would have come close to beating the two of you is Nanoha and Fate. That would have been no contest: there's no denying the way those two feel about each other. I DO think that you two are getting there though, and in time, might even have an official marriage on the ship."
