Cause, effect

Allenby lay on her cot, tapping her feet on the wall. She was--well she wasn't exactly happy to be in here, but she wasn't mad about it either. She'd cooled off, and for the past however-long had been picking apart how badly thought through her idea was. Mainly because it hadn't been thought through at all.

She'd done something dumb and so she supposed this was only fair, though she was still pretty pissed that Command seemed to think she was completely in the wrong for getting upset after a whole lot of silence from them about the away team. Thirty damn people were down there; did they think nobody would want to do something?!

And she was even more pissed that they'd gone and mothballed her Gundam until she kissed up to Trudy, promising to be a good girl, sit up straight, and never question her again... or whatever would satisfy her, which was the main problem occupying her thoughts right now.

Well, at least Alan Turing was being taken care of.

[ooc: This is a general log for anyone in the brig who wants to interact with each other--prisoners, staff, or visitors. You don't necessarily have to talk to Allenby; feel free to set up your own stuff. o/ ]

"Onigiri. They're pretty common in Japan -- maybe not so much Neo Sweden, though. There are different fillings people use, but I used salmon this time. So, um, hope you like fish."

He was silent for a moment, trying to get his thoughts together to put together a coherent narrative. "Well, you already know about the branding stuff, right?" He motioned vaguely to the bandage around his forehead. "Turned out the entire place was run using work done by clones who only lived a couple of years at most. And there was a resistance movement run by clones, trying to fight the government. They wanted our help crushing that movement."

"So the plan that some people on the crew came up with was to try and play both sides against each other. But the resistance ended up kidnapping a bunch of us to give us their side, and we ended up helping them in return for stealing some medical technology.

"Just before we left, though... well. First the government showed up with an army of clones of us to try and stop us from leaving. Then it turned out this guy from the resistance was trying to use the memories we'd donated to his group, and raise an army of his own. Long story short..."

He shook his head. "It was a mess. I'm glad we all made it back in one piece, but if someone ever asks me to do a mission like that again? I think I'll politely decline."

He smiled. "Glad you like it. Next shore leave, I'll try and get a bunch of ingredients so we can eat some actual food for a while." Well, not that he really ate that much, but Allenby could.

"...If the ship knew what was going on -- and I have a hard time believing it didn't -- then it didn't tell us," Zouichi said with a frown. He shared Allenby's dim view of the ship as a general rule. "Unless you consider 'human population may be dangerous' to be adequate warning."

"The resistance ended up losing some people, but they hadn't lost by the time we left. The government lost some people, too, so it wasn't like there was a clear winner out of the deal. I'd say it's going to be up to the people on the planet which way they decide to go."

"Definitely. And I'll look up how to make some Swedish dishes. I can't guarantee they'll come out how you remember them, though.

Zouichi nodded. "According to the man branding us, how clones were treated on the planet was a piece of information known to everyone who visited. I have a hard time believing the ship had no idea about that beforehand."

"So what happened on this side? I heard a little about how you ended up here, but not everything."

Zouichi nodded. "And then they stuck you down here, did they? Why didn't they say anything? At least to let you know we were all right. Er... more or less, anyway."

The communications problems aboard the ship often made keeping track of events more difficult than they should be, but this was basic information that should have been provided to everyone.

Zouichi frowned; he hadn't known Allenby that long, comparatively, but even he knew that ordering her around like a drone was exactly the wrong way to get her to do anything.

"That information should have been the first thing out of their mouths, if not broadcast to the entire ship. Especially considering the communications blackout after the initial news of the branding came out."

It was just common sense to him. Why not just let the rest of the crew know what was going on? Ease their worries, prevent panic or secondary rescue attempts?

He shook his head. "I can't imagine what their rationale was."

Then he paused for a moment. "Your old crew? I thought you enjoyed the Gundam Fight."

Zouichi frowned. "Being able to make your own choices, and living by them... that's what separates humans from animals, isn't it? Trying to deny people that freedom, the right to decide for themselves? That would be treating them like a piece of equipment." And that didn't sit well with him at all.

"This guy of yours sounds like a good person, though. Is he in the pods?"

"Then I guess it's just a matter of time before he's released. Sooner rather than later, I hope." He paused. "Kind of hard to imagine anyone beating someone as into the Gundam Fight as you, though."

"The best, huh? I guess now I have to meet him." He wondered if Domon could be as stubborn as Allenby.

...he thought it was likely.

"So, I hear there's a prom planned."

"Hmm, sounds kind of familiar. At least it's hard to misinterpret someone when they're socking you in the face."

He nodded. "Sort of. It was a sort of semi-formal dance party students used to go to in certain countries on Earth. But in this case, I think everyone's invited. You think they'll spring you soon enough to go?"

Zouichi smiled. "That's true, I guess." Well, he did agree with Allenby there.

"Yeah, well. It'd be pretty mean-spirited to prevent you from going to prom, brig or not. Maybe we could sneak you out or something."
