Cause, effect
Allenby lay on her cot, tapping her feet on the wall. She was--well she wasn't exactly happy to be in here, but she wasn't mad about it either. She'd cooled off, and for the past however-long had been picking apart how badly thought through her idea was. Mainly because it hadn't been thought through at all.
She'd done something dumb and so she supposed this was only fair, though she was still pretty pissed that Command seemed to think she was completely in the wrong for getting upset after a whole lot of silence from them about the away team. Thirty damn people were down there; did they think nobody would want to do something?!
And she was even more pissed that they'd gone and mothballed her Gundam until she kissed up to Trudy, promising to be a good girl, sit up straight, and never question her again... or whatever would satisfy her, which was the main problem occupying her thoughts right now.
Well, at least Alan Turing was being taken care of.

...and okay, that was pretty cryptic. "What happened? Did you guys wind up fighting the government or something? It sounds like they deserved some kinda pounding from that omnicomm message you guys sent."

He was silent for a moment, trying to get his thoughts together to put together a coherent narrative. "Well, you already know about the branding stuff, right?" He motioned vaguely to the bandage around his forehead. "Turned out the entire place was run using work done by clones who only lived a couple of years at most. And there was a resistance movement run by clones, trying to fight the government. They wanted our help crushing that movement."
"So the plan that some people on the crew came up with was to try and play both sides against each other. But the resistance ended up kidnapping a bunch of us to give us their side, and we ended up helping them in return for stealing some medical technology.
"Just before we left, though... well. First the government showed up with an army of clones of us to try and stop us from leaving. Then it turned out this guy from the resistance was trying to use the memories we'd donated to his group, and raise an army of his own. Long story short..."
He shook his head. "It was a mess. I'm glad we all made it back in one piece, but if someone ever asks me to do a mission like that again? I think I'll politely decline."

She nodded when Zouichi mentioned the branding, the grin turning into a scowl that got deeper and deeper as he detailed just what had happened down on that planet. "No kidding," she said when he was done. "Ugh, I can't believe we got handed a mission like that! Didn't Stacy know what kind of creeps they were?!" Chalk up another black mark against the ship in Allenby's book.
She tapped her fingers on the onigiri. "So... what happened with the rebels? Did they win, or did they..." she trailed off.
no subject
"...If the ship knew what was going on -- and I have a hard time believing it didn't -- then it didn't tell us," Zouichi said with a frown. He shared Allenby's dim view of the ship as a general rule. "Unless you consider 'human population may be dangerous' to be adequate warning."
"The resistance ended up losing some people, but they hadn't lost by the time we left. The government lost some people, too, so it wasn't like there was a clear winner out of the deal. I'd say it's going to be up to the people on the planet which way they decide to go."
no subject
Allenby couldn't believe that Stacy had been ignorant either. The ship was inside their heads translating each word and yet had no idea that Galilee's government was a bunch of slave-trading assholes? "The whole thing smells like a set-up. She's gotta answer for that somehow."
Just the how part was difficult. If she was currently in possession of her Gundam, she'd be hard-pressed not to take it out and try to at least wallop the ship right in the face.
"So it had to be left hangin'..." Allenby sighed. "I hope the resistance is able to beat those guys--and that they figure out what the right thing to do is when it's over."
no subject
Zouichi nodded. "According to the man branding us, how clones were treated on the planet was a piece of information known to everyone who visited. I have a hard time believing the ship had no idea about that beforehand."
"So what happened on this side? I heard a little about how you ended up here, but not everything."
no subject
Buuut when he brought up what had happened on Stacy during that mission? Allenby rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly. "When we reached Galilee after Kon's announcement, the communications were jammed--not a clue what was going on, and nobody on Command was sayin' anything after that either. You know, whether or not they were sending down some kind of team to help you or pull you out."
She sighed. "So I decided to go get you guys myself."
no subject
The communications problems aboard the ship often made keeping track of events more difficult than they should be, but this was basic information that should have been provided to everyone.
no subject
Foolish as her plan had been, it still left a bad taste in her mouth to think that giving her the information which would have prevented her from going had been their last resort.
no subject
"That information should have been the first thing out of their mouths, if not broadcast to the entire ship. Especially considering the communications blackout after the initial news of the branding came out."
It was just common sense to him. Why not just let the rest of the crew know what was going on? Ease their worries, prevent panic or secondary rescue attempts?
no subject
She slung an arm over the crossbars of the cell. "I admit I wasn't thinkin' straight, but if they had just said up front that they'd sent you guys help--!" She gritted her teeth. "It's worse than my old crew back on Earth. At least they only confined me to quarters, didn't make me think that they were letting my friends were getting killed on some godawful planet."
no subject
Then he paused for a moment. "Your old crew? I thought you enjoyed the Gundam Fight."
no subject
She rubbed the back of her neck... right. "I did, but not at first. Used to be that I was just another Gundam part, y'know? The only thing they cared about was victory for the nation." A faint smile crept onto her face. "But I met a guy who showed me what it's really about. That's why I ended up loving it."
no subject
"This guy of yours sounds like a good person, though. Is he in the pods?"
no subject
"But Domon? You bet he's in the pods. If Stacy got me, then she definitely got him." She grinned. "I lost to him in our Gundam Fight. He saw me as a person and gave me my own reason to fight."
no subject
no subject
Her expression softened. "If you want to know the truth, Domon Kasshu is probably the greatest Gundam Fighter that ever lived."
no subject
...he thought it was likely.
"So, I hear there's a prom planned."
no subject
She cocked her head to the side when Zouichi brought up the new topic. "A prom? Wait--that's some kind of fancy school party, isn't it?"
no subject
He nodded. "Sort of. It was a sort of semi-formal dance party students used to go to in certain countries on Earth. But in this case, I think everyone's invited. You think they'll spring you soon enough to go?"
no subject
She was torn between dismay and excitement when Zouichi explained. "Awww man, a party for everyone on the ship? I sure hope I get out before then! I'd really hate to miss a big shindig like that."
no subject
"Yeah, well. It'd be pretty mean-spirited to prevent you from going to prom, brig or not. Maybe we could sneak you out or something."
