How long had it been since Negi could truly cut loose? It had been quite a long time and Chamo and Barry were looking out for one another.

Stepping into the sensoriums, Negi looked over at the recreation of the Gravekeeper's Palace floating overhead. He could remember most of it, from regaining his memories of the attack that ruined the magical world and earth in a simultaneous blow, but stepping forward was Fate, the pale haired boy giving him a silent look.

The pair stared at each other for a long moment, and then seconds later, exploded into energy. Fists crashed against each others cheeks in a cross-counter as they skidded backwards.

"Come, Negi. Show me your plan." intoned Fate.

Negi grinned as his form changed, invoking his most powerful ability. His hair fanned out and became a long pink swathe of hair as his body glowed in a brilliant pink light as he shot forward, Fate coming to meet him in a devastating blow. The sound of violence could DEFINITELY be heard from behind the door in the sensorium, as the pair rained blow after blow down in a dizzying volley.

"Right. I'll get to that then." There was a crackle of energy and Negi's hair fanned out, that pink hue appearing once more. It was like he didn't even need to incant anymore, and Fate appeared, looking refreshed.

"Ready to go?" asked Fate and Negi nodded, the pair moving out a ways before clashing again.

Kaya watched, a new feeling replacing her worry: anticipation. She wanted to see exactly how strong Kain's interaction had made him, what he would be able to do with all of that power. she knew it should have scared her and yes, she would be scared.

Later. Now she wanted to see how he would react to his opponent.

Fists flew and blasts of magic and stone rocked the landscape as the pair darted in and out, striking each other with powerful blows. Every time Negi was struck, patterns of dark tattoos ran from his body. It was a sign that he was shielded in many levels, but it was still unnerving at best.

Kaya was unnerved, very noticeable unnerved. But that didn't mean she wouldn't stop watching. Negi had not taken all of this, gone through all of these pains for no reason: so she trusted in him, watched him take on fate with everything he had.

She had to prepare for the day he might need her She knew, watching him, she had to be ready.

Striking in a staccato sounding blast, the pair struck again and again, several spears of stone being broken by the swing of Negi's fist. The pair fought quickly, and soon were standing close to one another, panting. "Tied," remarked Negi.

"Only because you won't give me any edge," replied Fate, equally breathless.

Kaya grinned. Yes, that was her Negi, unwilling to give an inch: her younger brother, a genius magician, a sweet boy, no matter how anyone wanted to change it. He was so strong.

"Yes, Negi," she said under her breath, grinning.

Negi laughed as he floated down, Fate did as well. "Good match."

"We'll do this again next time," replied Fate, before vanishing and the gravekeepers palace around them vanished with it, leaving them in the grey space.

Kaya clapped her hands, excited, even if she was still a bit wary about all of this happening to poor Negi. "You have gotten better, that much is true."

She paused. "Are you scared?"

"A little, usually. But I know I'm doing the right thing," replied Negi, letting his transformation drop once more. "I just worry that someone will take it the wrong way, since my power stems from black magic."

"I know you would never use black magic for any reason other than protecting people," Kaya said. "I understand at least that much. But I also know magic, as it is, is a powerful thing. It has its own laws, much like my bending or gaining a bit of strength that makes one's power almost unfathomable: there is always a balance. If you should ever reach yours, and I have a feeling you'll know, tell us. There is nothing we would not do for you, you know that."

"Got it," said Negi, nodding. "I'll make certain of that." He smiled and wandered over to Kaya, giving her a little hug again.

She could really never stay stern with Negi too long: something abut his intelligence and his adorableness melted her on contact, and she hugged him back.

"You and Sasami aren't getting into too much trouble, are you?"

"Er... define trouble." said Negi, thinking vividly of the bath house incident.

Kaya narrowed her eyes. "Negiii. You know what I mean. I can already tell you're hiding something."

"It's okay, really! It was just a misunderstanding," stammered Negi, waving his hands.

She frowned, waving a finger at him. "Tell me! It can't be any worse than that time you sneezed and saw me naked!"

Yes, she can say that without blushing. Thank you Nokosi.

There he said it. He can die of embarrassment now.

Kay raised her eyebrows. Yes, she actually did understand that, it helped being around Negi that long.

But this was Negi, not Billy, and so she dealt with the situation differently.

"On purpose?"

"N-no. I just, I like bathing... as an adult. I dunno why. And I saw Sasami in the co-ed. She had a towel and all but uh..." stammered Negi.

Kaya put her hands on her hips. She loved Negi, and refused to have him become as lecherous as some of the people on the ship, or worse yet, Chamo the perverted ermine.

"And how did you feel?"

"... I don't know..." replied Negi softly. "I've never felt this way about her. I mean, normally it's embarrassing but..."

But he was already entering puberty, the young boy added a couple of years to his age at least. And he was fidgeting.

She took his hand. He wasn't being perverted, just embarrassed and confused about his feelings. She was glad he had mentioned it to her: she could only imagine what other people would have said to him.

"Those feelings you have, they're normal Negi," Kaya said. "You like Sasami, but you're also noticing she can become a woman, and you, well, you are older than you look sometimes. I'll stress, it is important to get to know her, and to remember NOT to become a slave to those feelings of yours. That kind of love between two people, it has to be mutually decided, ok?"

And hopefully later rather than sooner. She made a note to hang anyone trying to steer Negi closer to growing up THAT way faster than he needed to.

"So it's not weird?" inquired Negi. "I've seen my students naked a lot but I've never felt this way about them."

Saw his students naked a lot?! He must have sneezed quite a bit when he was starting out: well, she hoped that was the case anyway. But she was also concentrating on what else he said: even still, it was Sasami he actually cared about.

"Well, you might not want to tell people about seeing your students naked, but yes, its ok. It mean that you're starting to care about her, her more than anyone else. And if what I hear about her is true, she couldn't have picked a better person. She's still dealing with a lot of things about herself, some things she doesn't like. You're probably like a rock to her. I can't blame her for liking you either."

He MIGHT not want to running to Asuna and telling her he saw Sasami naked though.

"Ah heh... well I'm just being myself around her. It's weird, but I can be more... well, free is the word? I'm not her teacher, I'm her friend, and I think that makes the difference." admitted Negi, rubbing his head.
