He really needed to propose the Magic Department move to the Tower of High Sorcery. It really made a lot more sense, didn't it?

Oh well.

An illusory sign out front said "Welcome New Applicants", along with a magic mouth that welcomed them and gave brief instructions to the office he had reluctantly claimed after deciding that no one would ever manage to properly find their way to his actual wizard's lab. Thus, behind a desk, he sat scribing a scroll and awaiting potential new members to the department's ranks.

Oh, good! She wasn't turned away! That was a good sign at the least.

Stepping in, Sakura bowed slightly at Aibghailien, returning the smile as she did, before taking the seat she was offered.

"Ah, yes I have." she responded.

"Well, welcome to the ship, or as welcome as you can ever get to a biological vessel transporting you to a war against the would-be destroyers of reality. But enough of my sense of humor." He steepled his fingers, looking over them at her. "So, for the purposes of our records, could I ask you to elaborate a little on your abilities?"

Yes, please, enough of that humor. The thought of being part of some massive war is still a little much to swallow to a young teen like her. Resisting the urge to grin sheepishly, Sakura brought forth her Star Wand and a set of tarot cards.

"I have magic abilities, but they're drawn forth from these cards. They were known as Clow Cards, but after I ended up changing them, I call them 'Sakura Cards'." she said. She could have called them something else, but Tomoyo was very insistent on that. "Each card does a different thing and I'm certain there's much more that I've yet to find out."

He half-rose, leaning on his desk to look at the cards curiously. "I'm assuming you rely on the wand to make their powers manifest? Is the ability to produce a manifestation from the cards inherent to them, or to you?"

"That's right. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if I can do so without it." Sakura said. Hey, if she could manifest The Fly's wings on her back than her wand, then... "To me. They were once connected to their creator's power, but once I inherited them and converted them, then it became my own. It... wasn't a great feat, tell you the truth."

The fact that she was passing out for days on end because of that was telling, but she wasn't going to say that yet.

"Good, that means no great precautions necessary to protect those cards, if they're useless to others." A load off his mind, to be certain. He sat back. "Might I see a demonstration?"

"Certainly!" Sakura said, standing up and going through the deck. Probably something non-destructive, as wrecking the place would be a bad thing. She opted for The Sword - something simple, yet it shows what she can do.

"Let's try this...!" she uttered, the card floating out as she brought the Star Wand on it. "RELEASE!"

The card vanished as the Star Wand started to change shape, taking the form of a rapier. "The Sword's pretty much one of the few that won't try to do any real damage in here. If someone else had this, though, it would be a bit of a disaster - it would let someone be able to use it like a real swordsman and even take them over if they aren't careful!"

"Impressive. That's a direct conjuration, at least as I understand them... I have to admit I'm a little leery about the 'taking over' part," he continued as he peered at the sword. "Is that a common problem with your cards, or only that one?"

"Just that one." she reassured. "It's more or less if you lose concentration with it. If it makes it safer, I have the cards by my side at all times."

"That's reassuring, then," he said, sitting back with a smile. "We do tend to have some unpleasantness from time to time, given the various powers and histories of the people on board, so please forgive me my caution. I have a vested interest in making sure such things occur as infrequently as possible."

What else, what else... "Do any of your cards produce effects of teleportation or that require breaching planar boundaries?"

As Sakura restored her staff and card to normal, she couldn't help but blink at what he was suggesting. The cards were powerful, but not that power.

"Ah, no, I'm sorry...!" she admitted.

He lifted a hand to forestall the apology. "No, no, that's quite all right. Both of those abilities are extremely dangerous about the ship while it is in the Bleed, so if you could use them I was going to cautious you about that. So much the better that you can't, really."

"Okay...!"

Nodding, Sakura started to calm down just a bit. It was still a bit overwhelming, but she had to keep going.

"Is there anything else you need to know?"

He thought on that, then shook his head. "I'm very curious about the full range of abilities you have access to, but now seems like a poor time and place for it. If in the future you wouldn't mind giving a full demonstration and allowing me the chance to evaluate and analyze, well, I'd be quite grateful."

"I wouldn't mind that at all!" Sakura said, smiling. There really was a long range of what she could do and doing that here and now? Ehh...

"Um, does... this mean I can join in?"

"Oh, of course, absolutely!" he said, momentarily surprised. He thought he'd left no doubt! Ah, this temporarily leading a department thing, nothing at all like the old days... "Welcome to the Department."
