You can not leave the magic... [Open]

The Jedi Temple.

He really needed to propose the Magic Department move to the Tower of High Sorcery. It really made a lot more sense, didn't it?

Oh well.

An illusory sign out front said "Welcome New Applicants", along with a magic mouth that welcomed them and gave brief instructions to the office he had reluctantly claimed after deciding that no one would ever manage to properly find their way to his actual wizard's lab. Thus, behind a desk, he sat scribing a scroll and awaiting potential new members to the department's ranks.

Alex suddenly appeared in the temple. "Thank you, Ifrit," he says.

Alex listens to the magic mouth, which is totally brill, and walks over to the office.
"Hi!"

"Oh." Alex says quietly. "Okay. Ifrit, please remind me when I ask you for stuff what's dangerous."

"~Got it.~"

"Thank you. Anyway, I'm Alex, and this is Ifrit." Alex holds out his hand, the large golden ring engraved with arcane star-based glyphs.

"Yeah, but Ifrit gets grouchy when I say 'I wish' because he doesn't like getting mixed up with the three-wish genies in the stories."

"~I'm a djinn. A bound djinn. Anyway, I'm one of the best experts on the occult my facet of reality has, so since the kid doesn't do anything, I figured this is where we'd be the most useful.~"

Soren made his way into the office normally. That is to say, without teleporting.

"Aibghalien, I presume?"

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Soren nodded to the wizard, making note of the quill. Ah. At least some people around here wrote by hand.

"Soren, of the Greil Mercenaries," he said by way of introduction. "I'm an Archsage on my world, so I thought I should offer my services. It seems you've been quite busy for the past few days."

Hmm. Odd. Celena had much the same look on her face when discussing Aibghalien. "Yes, I read as much on the electronic device I was given. It seems that there is a great deal of inconvenient happenstance on this vessel." Anwei had actually gone on and on about it.

"Mages place a higher reliance on them, actually -- to the exclusion of almost anything else. But yes, elemental attack spells are my specialty. In theory, any beorc can learn to use the type of magic that I wield, provided they give it enough study. However, some are invariably more proficient at it than others. In general, those with inherent talent and speed are the most effective."

And in Soren's somewhat biased (but still quite true!) opinion, he was one of the best.

"No particular preparations are required, only items with which to focus power."

"Yes, that's correct. They were..." Soren made a slight face. "In storage."

"So I take it that your own magical style requires advance planning?"

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"~I'm not allowed any initiative, and can we not publicize the fact that the ring's the lone manifestation of the contract? That gets out, we have to deal with somebody prying me off the kid's hand.~"

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm. And it seems that in this conflict, at least, spells that do not have immediate combat applications would be rather valuable. I'd be interested to know what other schools of magic are represented here."

Soren nodded. "I can demonstrate some attack magic for you, if you've a suitable target. And an area that doesn't contain anything you don't want destroyed. The demonstration of healing magic, however, will require someone who is actually injured."

It had taken the pyromancer a bit longer than she had expected to make her way through the City to the Temple. Part of that was distraction. The place was bigger than Drakanis Shiva back home, and Ellyn had thought that was the biggest city she'd ever see.

Well. Color her wrong.

Eventually, though, she found her way into the office of the pointy-eared man, and, tilting her head, offered him a grunt in greeting.

"Name's Ellyn Vitner. We spoke on th' comm?"

Ifrit sighs. "~He has to be wearing it, or are you thinking an invisibility spell?~"

Sakura wasn't sure she was doing the right thing. A "department" of sorts concerning magic. Well, she was a magic user, alright. Now the problem was, was her type of magic useful?

Arriving at the location was easy enough, thanks to The Fly card. Making her way to his office, however, was kind of a different story. Making her way there, though, she poked her head in the door, curious.

"Hello?"

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wow, that's clever!" Alex proclaims.

"~For once, the kid's not just being starstruck. Good plan.~"
