Reliving your past through innocent eyes. [Open]

Now that everything was over, and people regained their memories and appropriate ages, Ronnae found herself staring at the sketchpad her younger self was carrying around. She was somehow scared of opening it. Fearful that the memories would be too painful. She had, after all, done her best to not think about things while on the ship. She knew it would only bring her heartache knowing that they might or might not be in the pods and even then, would they be the same?

She sighed as she settled under the large tree that made up Nokosi's house, slumping down till she sat on the grassy floor, relaxing against the smooth bark of the tree. Placing the sketchpad on her lap, she looked at it with hesitation, maybe she'll take a peak.

"Sure, but have you ever tried that? I tell him I just slew the ghost of Nielas Aran in our ongoing quest to cleanse the dread tower of Karazhan, and all he does is asks me what I need. They're masters of deflection."

"Possibly, and it's not like the Sin'dorei exactly have a vocal presence at the top echelons of the Horde."

He glanced over at her. "Quick, name the regent of our people!"

"I'm impressed," Mar said. "Most people couldn't have. Though I suppose with your heritage you had a better chance than most." He sighed. "I know the absolute crazy ones get the most attention, but plenty of people even know Baine Bloodhoof, and he's not on a rampage of genocide."

"He's up to the task, though." It was... comforting to talk to someone about home who understood it, not needing to describe everything to them. A pleasant change. "I wonder if any of them are on the ship waiting to be released, too."

"...I'm going to go on record and say I'm really glad Garrosh, Wrynn, and Sylvanas aren't out here," he said. "I don't think any of them quite have the knack for subtle diplomacy and togetherness the crew needs, y'know?"

"Oh sure, right up until she tried to infect the ship with Scourge plague on the ground that it's the only way to make sure the undead get their fair treatment or whatever," Mar said. "Just because she's not xenophobic doesn't mean she's not putting her interests first."

Mar wasn't anywhere near as agitated. He understood the basic reasoning, there, and to a certain extent could sympathize if not for one key point.

"No," he said, still amicable. "If preserving my people required killing others, then raising them to undeath, I'd like to think I'd let my people come to a noble end rather than do that."

"True, but look at it from the position of Azeroth," Mar said. "Assuming the Forsaken don't just maintain, but continue to spread, what will happen?"

"Then let me put a thought experiment to you," Mar said. "When is enough? If you were her, when would you say is enough?"

[identity profile] seesbosscrotch.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay. Now, let's say it's a good week on Azeroth, and only three Forsaken are killed by the Twilight Hammer, or a really bored human charging through Brill hurling fireballs, or whatnot. What then?"

"Oh, there are. But if just any old corpse would do, they'd be using just any old corpse, instead of burying Southshore and invading Gilneas, I'd think," he said. "And even so... even if only three people died, doesn't that mean you need to bring more than three people back, to be strong enough to handle the threats?"

Still perfectly calm. He's treating this as an academic discussion, really.

"The Tauren are pretty good about not razing villages, except as pare of a greater Horde action," Mar countered. "So there's a question to pose: Southshore. Did it fall for the Horde... or for the Forsaken?"
