The Change [open]

Neither Rachel nor Marco had any real trust in the medical situation they'd both been forced into. It seemed like they had been tricked and betrayed; and it meant that there were instantly a few more people crossed off their list of who they should trust when they escaped. In fact-- it left them at each other, it seemed, when they did escape from medical, two cockroaches slipping out of sight while medical was distracted from them.

Of course, this was compounded by the fact that several communications posts went up shortly after-- one announcing a Quarantine (thankfully they'd gotten out in time for that) and one announcing their abilities to the crew to warn them. And then things got worse-- Marco's morphing began to get weird, and Rachel... literally split into two.

This wasn't going well.

((ooc: As Blue's OOC post said, we need to make sure that only the people signed up for taking the two 'groups' (Nice Rachel and Marco in one corner, just Mean Rachel in the other) to Quarantine are the ones who actually do that. Other than that, feel free to try and do it! Tag under the header for whoever you want to thread with and feel free set the scene, and ours will enter in. :) ))

While Hiccup got away, Rachel took a few minutes to change again-- it took time, because she had to switch back to human again, first, and she was certainly impatient. The stupid scrawny brat could be escaping while she tried to change to something else! It wasn't fair!

When she had fully changed, though, she tried to pick up the scent-- where had he gone? As soon as she had a decent idea of what direction to go, though, she was off-- her new form quickly gaining speed and taking after him. She'd find him and kill him!

She'd spot him booking for a more civilized area of the city. He spotted her too, looking over his shoulder.

"Annnd I'm pretty dead. Yep. On the deadish side."

He was dead. There was no way he could outrun that thing.

The cheetah dashed quickly after the figure of the boy that she saw ahead of her-- a figure that was quickly becoming closer. The large cat might not be able to run for long, but it didn't need to.

As it got closer, she pulled back, and took a flying lunge towards him.

You just might survive to derp another day, Hiccup!

Because unbeknownst to the lunger until it was too late, Rachel would find out just how durable a Viking shield can be. It was a damn crazy thing to do and she wasn't sure what they were up against, but without a moments hesitation Astrid sprung inbetween the boy and yellow furred beast, steeled herself and threw up her thick wooden shield and braced for impact, hoping to create a sturdy block.

The thing was certainly fast on its feet. And with that momentum and air lunge one can bet it probably wasn't easy to stop.

So why outrun when you can give it a splitting headache instead?

Damn, Astrid, way to be a bamf.

"Don'tkillit, it's really a crazy girl that can turn into things!" Hiccup said breathlessly, skidding to a stop and nearly tripping next to Astrid as he turned around and pulled out his long knife. "Ithinktheone mentioned on the comms!"

He just, you know, wanted to get that out there before any killing was done. Take it as faith in your killinating skills as why he said that before a thank you, Astrid. The thank you would come later if the both of them didn't die.

Rachel's cheetah let out a loud yowl of surprise-- and, naturally, pain-- as it slammed headlong into the shield, not having the chance to stop itself. It skidded across the shield, hitting head and front paws first. She dropped to the ground, and the yowl turned to a roar-- even though her head was throbbing and her legs were hurting a lot. Apparently slamming cheetah-first into a wooden shield at those speeds was beyond painful.

< I'll kill you! > she scream mentally, again, though it was surely redundant by that point. What made them think they could get away with hurting her like that?!

[identity profile] astridhofferson.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
...Okay, so Astrid made a minor miscalculation, as she quickly found out.

The slam jostled more than her shield - even when bracing and supporting her cover with both arms. She hadn't anticipated the exact force, and she was violently pushed back, momentarily knocked off her feet with a yelp, losing grip on her axe as it was nearly thrown in another direction. And after a split disoriented second, stunned from the collision, the Viking girl recovered, grabbed the weapon from the ground and staggered backwards near Hiccup. Astrid grunted and blearily shook her head to regain her focus.

So maybe that wasn't the brightest last minute plan, but it managed to impede the thing from tackling Hiccup.

Fortunately, her shield absorbed the brunt of the impact, however her arms burned - the penalty for meeting Rachel head-on surged rather painfully through her limbs as she tried to keep her defense firm and steady, preparing for the cat's oncoming retaliation. Eyes locked on the beast, Astrid held shield at ready with one arm this time. Just in case it was getting any ideas, she gave the axe a twirl, making it visibly aware to the animal this shield isn't Rachel's only problem.

"Fantastic. Anything else I should know? Because seems she has no issue with killing us!" she breathed out irritably.

There was a pause as she just noticed something. A voice in her head? She blinked, eyebrow raising. "You hear that?"

"She can talk in your head," Hiccup said, knife out and ready. He was slightly behind Astrid and off to the side, out of the way of her axe-swing (he knew exactly how long her swing was after being the smith that handled fixing up her axe) but where Rachel would have to go through Astrid to get to him.

It wasn't so much that he was using Astrid as a human barricade as he was in a good position where he was blocked off, out of Astrid's way, and if she got knocked down again, he'd also be in the perfect position to lunge in and have a go at the great cat himself to help her.

"And she can change into other things than this."

Good job, Hiccup, getting in trouble this time. Crazy shapeshifters. A+ for effort.

The cheetah that was Mean Rachel wobbled for a moment more, trying to regain her footing. She was still hurting from that, but she was certainly not ready to give up, just yet.

< I'll kill you, > she seethed again, continuing to drive that point home. Why did that stupid girl have the ax and shield in her way?! She had to get them!

She dove forward again, this time trying to jump over the shield, though her run was a bit slower-- no space to build up, plus injured legs, wasn't very conducive to a strong leap.

Yeah, it seems it can never be as simple or mundane as 'Hiccup is attacked by a squirrel', can it? But a shapeshifting berserker of all things. It's rather absurd. It was a bothersome overgrown feline... but it's exotic coat was fetching.

"We can't even take it's fur?" Astrid grumbled under her breath.

This time she would go on the offensive. With a snarl that guaranteed she had no intent on being knocked down a second time, she aligned the shield, putting the weight of not just her aching arm, but the entire left side of her body into it as she rushed Rachel to perform a shield ram. A attempt to disrupt the beast's movement, and, hopefully, daze it for another moment longer.

Astrid wouldn't be finished handing the cheetah a maw full of shield, of course. There was a plan. Following up after the ram, she was ready to overwhelm Rachel with shield, and behind its protection find an opening from the shield's circumference just so she could flip her axe and deliver repeated stabbing blows to the snout and cranium area with the end of the axe handle. Ouch.

Can't kill it, he said. Well there were other methods.
