Setting Up The Home [Open]

It had taken a meeting with Negi and handing over the keys, but Shiori had a place to herself. True it was the now defunct Atelier Elric, but she kept the name. One of the things she had learned when she had been sent off for school due to Fate’s insistence, was that she learned how to do the basics of magic.

As such, she put a sign up. “Now Re-opened, doing small scale transmutations and potions. Inquire within.”

Shiori hoped this would attract people who were coming near the circle of small shops, and she lit the burner that she had, and began to brew, getting lost in the motions.

With any luck, she wouldn’t have to worry too much about things as she turned on the music player which started in on a fairly nice song, and she began to hum along with it as she set to work, skirt swishing along as she fairly danced about.

Shiori nodded, smiling a little as she went to start the kettle. "I'm looking into duplicating the leaves, make myself a little garden in the open space just in front of the shop. Grow some herbs, tea leaves, etcetera. I know a bit of botany magic as well, or at least how to raise plants quickly."

Kaya looked fairly excited at the idea. "That's great! I sort of wish I had the time to do that myself, but I usually need to start working on several things at a time. Plants would likely die in my care. I sort of wish we had an Earthbender here for that."

"Earthbender?" inquired Shiori as she set some tea leaves into a strainer and placed it into the pot to steep. "What's that might I ask?"

"Exactly what it sounds like, someone that can take earth and use it, make it move," Kaya said, "like how I'm a waterbender and can use just about anything with water in it. Of course, wed still need someone who knows abut plants, but the earthbender could probably help get the right conditions and everything. Not that I think the earthbender friend that I knew would be jumping for joy at that suggestion."

"Sounds like the geokinetics of our world," remarked Shiori as she continued to brew, checking the temperature of the water. "They're rare but they can move the earth without incanting anything."

Finding the temperature to be of her liking, Shiori poured two cups and offered one to Kaya. "Sugar and milk if you like it too."

"I've heard the abilities that we can do called other words before," she said, "Which is probably why you're able to do alchemy in the first place. I guess that's why people keeping calling what we do magic, because we don't touch the materials either."

Kaya made a face. "In tea? Why?"

"Mmhmm. Alchemy, like potion making is a basic thing of our world. Negi-kun can do it too, if he's studied that far into it."

She blushed a little as she sipped her tea. "Negi-kun likes sugar and milk in his tea."

"I think he might have, if the recent fight is any indication," Kaya said. "I'm surprised then that he didn't come here and try to open up the shop myself."

Kaya shook her head. "That's just weird. The whole point of tea is to enjoy the flavors and the infusions, not coat the taste with sweet things!"

"He wanted to, but when he and I spoke, I told him that I didn't want Negi-kun to stress himself running the store, so he left it in my hands. I suppose it's better than letting him fret about everything."

Shiori giggled as she sipped her tea, also unflavoured. "Negi-kun's still a kid. Although Fate-sama drinks coffee. And they have their spats over it."

Kaya nodded. "Well, I would imagine with Negi and all he has to learn, he has a lot on his plate. Besides, I think it might be a good idea for him to take a breather from responsibility now and then, just so he gets to act like a kid for a little while.

She shook her head. "Now sugar and milk in coffee I understand. That drink is just...ugh. It needs it."

"Considering Negi-kun rarely gets to, being a kid is a good idea for him to try and attempt being. He didn't have much of a childhood at any rate."

Shiori nodded at that. "I agree. Coffee needs sugar and milk."

"I know," Kaya said, remembering all too well the day that she saw what happened to him during the attack on his village. Now, more than ever, she wanted to go back to being around Negi, speaking iwt him and being his onee-san. She missed him terribly.
"When it gets down to it, neither of us did."

She made a face, thinking of coffee. "Why anyone would want to taste something so...BLEH is beyond me. I need flavor."

Shiori nodded, sipping her drink a little. "Did... he share his childhood with you?"

She chuckled. "Sometimes for some people it's good."

Kaya nodded. "We dreamscaped and saw each others childhoods, yes. He has so much that he has to deal with, I wouldn't want him to not have fun where he could find it."

She shrugged. "I guess if it keeps you up, its ok."

"Really?" Shiori pinked a little, rubbing her head. "To do that implies an incredible level of trust. Most mages find it almost taboo to do that unless you really believe it's worthwhile."

She nodded, sipping her tea.

Kaya nodded. "Negi...is like a younger brother to me. I used to feel guilty saying that, considering that I thought I had a brother on the ship already, but I can say it freely now. If something happen to him again, I want to be there to try and stop it. That is how much trust we have."

She took a sip of her tea as well, smiling. "That is good."

"Family isn't dictated by blood but by ties," said Shiori with a smile over her cup. "I think it's what keeps us as real as anyone on board here than anything else."

"Yeah, I tried it out down on the planet. It's really quite nice."

She nodded. "The longer I'm on this ship, the more I believe that to be true. I've met a lot of people on the ship, and each of them are special to me in one way or another."

She smiled. "I get a hint of mint here, and maybe a little bit of..I don't know, blossom maybe?"

"That's good then," chuckled Shiori with a nod. "I... wouldn't mind counting you as a friend."

"Mint, blossom, maybe a little cherry."

"I feel the same way," Kaya said, smiling. "Have you at least reconciled with Asuna though? You were the one impersonating her after all, and from what I've seen, she has a bit of a short fuse."

She also yelled at Negi more than she would have liked, but that was just how the two of them seemed to get along.

"I've spoken with Hime-sama, and I intend to do more of that later on," said Shiori as she took a sip of tea. "Hime-sama is... very boisterous, and I admire her for that. She's a lot of things I wish I was. Hot tempered and loud yes, but she's kind and gentle when you get to know her."

She nodded. "Oh, I figured that out. If anyone was going to be Negi's partner, it had to be someone strong and opinionated to look after Negi. I've definitely seen her be very overbearing, but I also know that she'll be the one to help him in the end. At least the two of you get along, though."

"She is very well suited for him," said Shiori with a bit of a wistful tone in her voice. "Not only she's strong willed and beautiful, but she's a princess, and he's a prince. It's like a fairytale, although their own stories are built on tragedy."

Shiori blushed at the last bit. "I'd... like to think at least that Hime-sama and I understand one another."

"You speak very highly of her," Kaya noticed. "I can tell that you admire her quite a bit too. I know that most people would probably overlook her because Negi is the one who can do magic, but Asuna is pretty amazing in her own way."

She shrugged. "Of course, Negi is dating Sasami, isn't he? So it isn't as if Asuna is WITH him in that way."

Now why would you possibly mention that, Kaya?

There was a mental "FFFFF!" in Shiori's motions, thinking of the possibilities. Her cheeks positively pinked at both of those things. "Negi-kun... is dating? And it's not Hime-sama?"
