Tim the Toolman would be green with envy [Open]

Xander found the selling memories guy too creepy. The only memories he would consider selling would be those fake ones from the fake older Xander guy who helped up screw up his first wedding. And he was trying not to think too much about the second wedding, even though he had been helping the Winchesters with the home improvements. Sam was still mostly clueless, and he was getting tired of Dean's glares.

At least there's another shore leave with plenty of housewares shops with supplies for guys who like to build. As long as you got the dough. Still the allowance Stacy offered helped a lot with getting much needed equipment for his shop. There were some fun power tools in one shop that looked promising. Also a socket wrench set that would make the Tool Time guys weep with joy.

The Chancellor needed more insulation for the singularity comm project. He checked place after place until he found it. It was mildly frustrating. 'Shopping' was much more streamlined in the Empire. But here it was, and he was going to get as much as possible.
Looking down -- and down -- nodded politely to the human. "Good afternoon." As ever, his lips did not move, but the rich English voice the transmitter provided sounded perfectly natural.

Schmuz had, eventually, clued Sam in. At least a little bit. Honestly, it was strange that the Yeerk had recognized it when Sam hadn't.

Then again, as the Yeerk reminded him, he tended to be pretty clueless about people being attracted to him, period. Female or male. However, the Yeerk had asked that nothing be done until after he had his own body, simply because Schmuz couldn't deal with the idea of 'human mating rituals'.

So, Sam was alone in his own head once more, finger in his ear as he tried to get rid of the strange feeling of something in it. He nearly passed the housewares shop, then stopped and backed up when he thought he saw someone he knew.

Of course it would be Xander. That was just the way his life worked. Taking a breath, he stepped inside. "Hey. Find anything interesting?"

He couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Sorry. I only just got here, so it's not like I've been stalking you or anything." Erm. Well, that sounded good, didn't it?

He looked at the drill, then back to Xander. "Looks like it would certainly do the job, yeah."

The horrible chainsaw of Flaming Death was now strapped to Cowabunga's back, and Humar was seriously questioning his master's choice in weapons purchases. Still, even the beast had to admit that his taste in tools was significantly better than his taste in armaments.

"Look at this Humar. The metal's too soft. I can understand wanting to make a profit, but whatever happened to making tools that last?"

Now that he knew what was going on, Sam was kind of wondering why he hadn't realized it before. It was feeling a bit obvious now.

He cleared his throat, trying not to laugh. Especially at that last bit, which was possibly just his mind being a little dirty. "Yeah, well, have to have the attachments, right?" He paused, then asked, "You going to be able to get everything you need on your allowance?" Three thousand credits sounded like it would go a long way, but with so much haggling going on, it was hard to tell.

Focusing on the tools is a good idea for Sam. Though for different reasons.

"Dean sold some of his." He wasn't even going to disagree with it. "I'm not entirely certain what he sold, but...apparently it was worth a lot."

Total lie. He knows pretty well what Dean probably sold. And it worries him because, one, there was apparently a market for those kinds of memories and two, because he was pretty sure it meant Dean had to relive them. It's the latter that really makes him ill. "So, you know. We're making sure we've got everything we could possibly need to finish off the extension."

"Yeah, except this is supposed to be for metalworking...hang on a sec" Cowabunga grabbed a similar tool from the same company that was ostensibly designed for carpentry.

"...They pasted two different labels on the exact same tool. What the flak?"

"It has been most challenging to find the appropriate insulation in this marketplace," he remarks politely, holding his purchase.

"Extruded tubing containing aromatic polyamides, unfortunately."

Cowabuga rolled his eyes. "That clinches it. If there's any kind f central authority on this planet, it has to be goblins. This place is way to greedy for it not to be."

Sam looked around. "Well, I figure you know what's needed more than I do. So, you know, if you wanna just get some stuff? Because we've probably got more credits than we can spend ourselves."

"You know, I wish I thought you were kidding about that." Sam snorted and shook his head. "Where, exactly, is he planning to put the Batcave? I don't think the topsoil in the City is deep enough for anything like that." Then again, he could be wrong, he supposed.

Sam snorted. "Sounds like my brother." Not that he would complain in the least. "Though it sounds like a good plan, too." He turned, looking at the tools. "We've never really had a chance to stick around anyplace long enough to get attached. To places or people."

"Not over a Hellmouth, no. But walked into a few a couple of times." And was, apparently, destined to basically be the big bad in the end. Not something he wanted to think about.

Sam watched him for a few more moments, wondering what he should say before he finally just blurted it out. "I know." Then followed up with, "I mean, about...you know."

Crap. He was CRAP at this stuff.

Sam straightened, walking over to Xander. "Yeah, I know." He kept his voice down, trying not to spook him. "It's kind of embarrassing to have to be told somebody has a crush on you by an outside observer."

Seriously. He should have known about that on his own, not had to have a Yeerk tell him.

At least he sounded a bit bemused rather than mad.

He snorted, shaking his head. "No. I'm just that clueless."

Sam shifted, balancing from one foot to the other for a moment. "Look. I'm...not good at this," he said after a moment. "I mean, the whole people having crushes and stuff. We never really stuck around anywhere for it to matter."

[personal profile] chosenfamily 2011-04-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He shifted again, slightly uncomfortable for a different reason. Still, Sam looked up and looked Xander in the eye. "I never said that."

Sam took a breath and let it out slowly. "It means...I don't know where this is going. If it's going anywhere. And maybe I need to think about it a little more, but...I don't want to say no, either."

It was all confusing, but it was hard to keep people at arms length on the ship.

Sam ran his hand back through his hair. "Honestly? It probably wasn't very clear." Looking up again, he shook his head. "Right now, it's a maybe. I'm just...not ruling out a yes in the future. Okay?"
