The Predator [open]
The plan of attack was pretty simple-- the bazaar was generally unfamiliar territory, so the point was going to be to stalk the field, to scope out the best items and deals. If she could find the weakest salespeople, the best deals... those would be the best places to strike. This was going to be good.
Moving with purpose, Rachel started to weave through the crowded bazaar, eyes set on her first target: a nearby clothing stall, vivid fabric aired in the open.

He reaches for another neckerchief - this one a much more subdued blue, with a little white mixed in. It would stand out some against the one button down shirt he owns, but not in a distracting sort of way. Just like she said. "How about this?"
no subject
"Much better," she said, nodding. "It clashes a lot less, and it'll go with most outfits well. Versatile and attractive."

A few minutes and a few less credits later, he comes back, holding a small bag with the cravat it in. "But what about yourself? Surely there must be something you've seen that you like?"

She had said something along the lines of girls enjoying being told they were pretty, at least from what he recalls. He has to admit, he was a bit distracted by Kaylee herself at the time, so he might not quite be remembering it right. Still, it occurs to him maybe it wouldn't hurt to try this complimenting thing right now, so he gives it a go.
"Aye? It's a good color." He does approve of red, after all. "It would look bonny on ye."
no subject
"I think so," Rachel agreed, confidently, holding the scarf up to herself briefly for emphasis, glancing over at one of the mirrors in the shop. "It wouldn't be a bad buy."
no subject
"I'm sure you'll be able to get a good price out the merchant," he adds, then. "Although if tries to tell ye that it's his last one, don't believe him. He's got boxes of all of these things under the tables."
no subject
"Right," she said. "Standard merchant kind of tricks. Why would those change between planets?" Shopping was shopping, no matter where she went. "I bet you I could convince him to give me a generous deal."
no subject
"Oh, aye, could ye now? I'd like to see that."
no subject
"Then I'll take that as a challenge," she said, smiling a bit too sweetly, before she turned on her heel, scarf draped over her arm, and made her way over to the shop keeper. Watch and learn, Jamie. Watch and learn.

After all, this whole planet is made of up of people who make a living at overcharging unwary shoppers. Surely one wee lassie isn't going to be able to get the better of them, no matter how good she is at haggling.

She reaches the shopkeeper with a very confident swagger, scarf over her arm still, and she flashes her winning smile at the merchant. She might as well be a professional shopper-- and she's going to work her charm. And if that doesn't work? She can certainly work her aggression too.
She's going to return to Jamie in a few minutes looking pretty triumphant.
((ooc: let me know if this is okay?! ;; ))

He hides the expression quite quickly once she starts walking back, although he can't quite manage to cover it with the same cocky expression he had earlier. Maybe she won't notice.
"So, er. What did ye wind up paying for it, then?"
((OOC: Oh, no problems at all! And feel free to make up whatever for a price and we can pretend it's low. 8D))
no subject
"5 credits," she says casually, as if it's no big deal. "Not bad I guess."
((ooc: works for me. 8) ))
no subject
"Aye, well," he says, just as casually. "I suppose that's not so bad when it comes to price. Although ye may have just gotten lucky. Or maybe it was defective or something."

He wanders across the way, then, to a booth that seems to be selling suits and jackets for men, idly pulling out the sleeve of one of them to look at it. "But I'm sure ye know your fabrics, being a lassie and all."
no subject
"So let's get you dressed up then."
no subject
Looking at the sleeve of the suit coat he's pulled out, he considers the idea. It wouldn't be the first time someone on the ship's gotten him to try on clothes, and while he can't really think of any reason to actually get an outfit off the top of his head, he figures it wouldn't hurt to go along with her.
Actually, he thinks, glancing back at her face, it might hurt if he decided he didn't want to.
"Aye, I suppose I could try on a thing or two while we're here. What did ye have in mind?"

However, jackets would be easy enough to try on, he supposes. And it might very well satisfy her enough that he'll get out of carrying bags around yet. Heartened by the thought, he reaches for one anyway, a tweed one somewhat similar to the Doctor's. "Maybe this one, though..."
no subject
She raises an eyebrow at the jacket he pulls out, and frowns. "Tweed's a little... old," she says after a moment. She could see it going with the kilt, but it's not really what she had in mind. "Try it on if you want, but," she roots through the rack, pulling out a solid black argyll jacket. "Try this, too."
no subject
The argyll jacket does seem much nicer, and he's beginning to think it'd be the better of the two options. Again, however, he won't know until he's wearing it, so he holds out his hand for that before moving off to a small changing area with a mirror next to it.
Shrugging out of his sheepskin vest, he sets it aside so he can try on the tweed jacket. It's all right, he supposes, but something about it doesn't set well with him, and he's not entirely sure what that is. With a small shake of his head, he takes it off, then puts on the argyll jacket. He likes this much better, although it's a little plain looking, with the dark buttons on the cuffs.
"This one's not so bad, but...it needs something, don't ye think? Maybe there's one with some sort of decoration on it."
no subject
She does smile a little when he tries on the other, offering a "much better" with a nod. She could tease him a bit more, but she hums instead, as he gives his own thoughts on it. "So we find something bolder," she says, turning back to the rack without waiting for more of his opinion. "It should still be understated. A bit more unique, but not... flashy." She flips through the options, trying to find something better. After a moment, she pulls out a similar one-- but a slightly different cut, more contemporary, and with some silver decoration, largely in the buttons. "How about this?"
((ooc: Lemme know if this is fine!))
no subject
The one he's wearing is quickly removed and replaced by the one Rachel's found, and he looks down at himself, giving the jacket a slight tug as he tests the fit. It's a good one, he thinks, and those silver decorations make it stand out without being too flashy.
After stretching out his arm so he can get a good look at the sleeve, he lifts his head back up and nods. "Aye, this'll do. Unless you've got objections as to how it looks on me now."
(( OOC: That is perfect, actually! ))
