It's five o'clock somewhere!

It was easy to find the Drunken Dragon Tavern, due to the train, and the fact that a good portion of the crew was familiar with the establishment and could point the way. Kang knew that there were a few already planning on stopping by, and that Kaylee could use the help. He also wanted to get more information on the new people, see who was likely to cause problems (Farseer Ildraniath already had) and who wasn't. There were a few he hoped would show up, as well.

Feeling a little happier than usual, despite the Farseer, he took care of business as usual, being sociable and refilling drinks.

[Open post is very open. Feel free to talk to either Kang or Kaylee, or both, or to threadjack (with permission, of course)!]

"Oh, I see! So since they were from Lancaster, ye picked up their way of talking?" That makes sense, actually. "But you've not always been able to speak. How did it come about that ye figured out how to do so?"

The Chancellor carefully takes out his transmitter. "Portal vocal chords, the engineers humorously called them. We have no vocal chords of our own."

"Ah." Jamie looks at the device curiously. One of the other engineers on board here would likely have more of an immediate idea how it would work, or at least could take a guess. To Jamie, it looks more or less like a wee box - but one that clearly works. He might be able to get a little more of an idea if he were able to take it apart, but since he's not about to ask to do that, he's willing to accept it as what it's being described as.

"It must have been odd for ye to suddenly be able to talk, then."

"Unusual, yes," the Chancellor says, his lips not moving as usual. "But very convenient."

"I suppose it would be, at that. Hey, I wonder..." He trails off for a moment, looking thoughtful, then shakes his head. "No, that'd not work if you don't have vocal cords. At least, I don't think it would."

"What would not work?"

"Stacy's translation-thing. It's how we can all understand each other. But I think ye need to be able to talk in some way for it to work properly."

"Ah. It is so with the translation technology in our own facet of reality, at least. It is only triggered by verbal speech, until these latest innovations."

"Aye." It's a good thing the Chancellor has it, otherwise it would make things more difficult than it already generally is. Although Jamie supposes he could use the Omnicomm to talk, if he had to.

Oh, wait, he had meant to check that, hadn't he? He goes to pat down the pockets of the sheepskin vest he currently has on, only to find them empty. And he realizes that he may have very well left the item back on the TARDIS. "Och."

He looks up apologetically at the Chancellor. "I'm sorry. I'm afraid I'll have to cut things short. It was good to meet ye, though."
