PJs and Movies [Backdated to before Possession Plot]
This was very likely the most normal his life had been in the past four years. There was something sad about that, but he wasn't thinking about that right now.
Right now there was Bobby with his head resting on his thigh and a movie from his childhood playing on the TV and his head was completely his own. All good things, comfortable things, safe things.
It was relaxing, and that was all, the wag of Bobby's tail and the quiet voices from the TV. It was nice to do something that didn't need to mean anything.

"Can only hope so," Kaylee agreed. She couldn't help a small laugh as Bobby bounded off the couch, though it was more out of entertained concern than any laugh at Tom's misfortune.
That made one of them home, even if it wasn't exactly the brother Kaylee was looking for. She didn't mind at all, though. It wasn't often she and Sam got to interact when Dean wasn't around. In case Sam questioned the 'we,' Kaylee chimed in with an, "Afternoon, Sam!"

Tom tossed her a wounded look, all teenager for a moment. "Not fair, laughing because I was just defeated by an overgrown puppy..."
He rubbed his chest, leaning his head back to look at Sam. "Homeward Bound. I'm abusing the media library for Disney movies."

Kaylee smiled up at Sam, giving him a little wave as he entered the room. "Thought you guys could use a surprise today." Even if most of the surprise had originally been meant for a little quiet time with Dean. "Tom was kind enough to entertain and introducin' me to a couple old movies in the meantime."

He raised an eyebrow. "Homeward Bound? I...yeah. I think we watched that once. It was a long time ago, though." They weren't exactly a Disney watching family, after all. "And you know us, Kaylee. We're always glad to have you around."
Dean moreso, of course. But Sam loved her like family, too.

He smiled, turning back to the TV. "The title seemed like something that fit, you know? I remember it has a good ending." He laughed. "Kaylee means she was nice enough to put up with me watching kid's movies and didn't run for the hills."
It was nice to have someone there, nice to have someone to talk to.

"He promised me a happy endin'," she laughed. "'Sides, ain't often I get to watch Earth-That-W--" No, she really needed to train herself off of Earth-That-Was better. Kaylee corrected herself, "Earth movies. If this one promises a happy endin', just makes my experience that much better."

Bobby licked Sam's nose and 'grinned' at him.
He snorted, shaking his head and leaning back. "I think the movie probably fits just fine with everything on this ship. I wonder what Rhiow would think of it, though."
no subject
"Yeah, Disney is good like that. It might have sad moments, but the good guys always win in the end."
He laughed softly. "He's going to get someone at some point, and that's going to be his response, you know? How can you be angry with that face?"
He glanced back at the TV, watching the cat. "I don't know, do you think she'd like that the cat was more clever than anyone else? Or would she be upset? I didn't even think of that."

It was hard to miss that curious look from Tom, and she couldn't help but laugh a little. She'd gotten that look from more than one person on this boat. "From the future, ain't alien. And if you're from 'round his time," she motioned to Sam, "then you got 'bout 500 years on me."
She didn't know Rhiow all that well, so there wasn't much she could throw into that part of the conversation. Back to watching the movie...

"Actually," he said, now that he thought about it, "Dean and I kind of avoided a lot of Disney as we were growing up." Too many parents dying. Bambi was about the worst for them.
no subject
He grinned at the explanation, almost laughing again. "Five hundred years? Five hundred years later and Star Wars is one of the movies that the human race takes into the stars with them? That's fantastic."
He glanced at Sam, wordlessly curious. But he had been avoiding Bambi, and a few others he remembered liking as a kid. He wanted a truely happy ending, not 'hey the heroes won, but someone good still died.'
Lion King and Bambi were strictly off the list of choices. "What did you watch when you were kids, then?"
no subject
Kaylee couldn't help feeling a bit proud of his reaction to the future. Some people might have found it sad that Star Wars was the only thing that made it, but it really just proved that you never knew what bits of Earth-That-Was culture you were going to find 500 years after the fact.
With a shrug (and a tiny bit of a smirk), Kaylee reached over to give Bobby's back a nice scratching. "Knowin' Dean, it was all cops 'n robbers shows."
no subject
Or maybe not.
Sam grinned at Kaylee. "There were a lot of those, yeah. I think I've seen every episode of Dukes of Hazzard ever made, too."
no subject
He shrugged faintly at the inaccurate comment, knowing that space wasn't full spaceships and cozy little spaceports. Half the universe was at war with the other half. Didn't make for nearly as nice a story. It was hard to see who the good guys even were, in his universe, just the human race was hopelessly caught between the opposing forces. "There's some geeks back home that would be ecstatic to know that Star Wars made it to space. It's kinda awesome. And, yeah it might not be the truth. But it's nice to think that the good guys always win, that there's something to be won from suffering. That's a bit of humanity's innocence that went with them into space."
He grinned, relaxed against the arm of the couch, listening to Sam talk. "John Wayne and Starskey and Hutch and stuff like that? Sounds like fun."
The movie played on in the background, though it didn't seem like anyone was watching.
no subject
Kaylee was obviously more than pleased with Tom's answer. She leaned back, grinning. "They win enough, 'n that's what counts."
While John Wayne was another name Kaylee recognized--oh, did her daddy love his movies--Starsky and Hutch and Dukes of Hazzard didn't ring any bells. "Can't say I've even seen one... Must'a been good, though, to hold Dean's interest for more'n thirty seconds."
no subject
Okay, so maybe it sounded like something else. But that was just a coincidence, really.
no subject
"We'll have to go look. Maybe we can find some actual popcorn and have some sort of movie night. That'd be fun. Jake and I used to do it when we were younger." Before everything went to hell. "It'd be nice to just have a chance to relax, you know?"
More and more, this felt like family.
no subject
"Never one to turn down an excuse for relaxin'," she admitted, checking the movie again. "This boat needs more of 'em. Too many folks not smilin' ever."
no subject
Not that Sam ever went there to do research. Ever. At all.
no subject
Being able to smile was a luxury. A good one, one he was enjoying experiencing. Made everything else seem so much less important.
no subject
Kaylee nodded. "He should be able to, I'd think. Promised me he would next leave, at least, so if he don't we'll just have to go drag him out kickin' and screamin'."
no subject
Dean chuckled and reached down to pet the still sort of puppy aged dog, and stepped inside, noticing the sounds and voices.
"Let me guess, my party invite got lost in the mail?"
no subject
Hey, he could admit that. Really.
Then Bobby perked up. "Oh no," Sam muttered, just in time for Bobby's scramble off of his and Tom's laps. Which would have been fine, except for one stray paw that made Sam's eyes cross. He folded over, biting down on a whimper. That just wasn't manly, after all.
But DAMN, that hurt.
no subject
"Welcome home, Dean. We were just talking about you. You ok, Sam?"
