[Bendytimed after the lensmen arrived]

aaaaaaaaaAAARGH!

The noise seemed to come from out of nowhere, a wail of frustration raising in pitch until a part of the wall in a less-than-crowded section opened, spitting out a peeved-looking girl in red.

And was she peeved.

"Damn you, you stupid cowardous computer! We're not done yet!" She yelled at the wall which, for all intents and purposes, was as good as new. "Get out here, Glados!"

With a frustrated expression, she pointed her hammer (which was pretty large, come to think of it, larger than usual) at the wall. "Don't make me SMASH my way in!"

[OOC: Yeah. I fail. Anyway, Vita evidently got swallowed by Glados and was busy testing stuff. She's back and angry.]

"Maybe not, but I have the feeling that we'll be seeing losses of our numbers, before long," the elf said softly. He folded his arms, hands on top so his fingers were folded over his own elbows, as he looked into the distance. "I'd rather stack the deck now, then let loss fall indiscriminately."

"Do you or your friends even have the slightest of the concept of pessimism?" Aibghalien asked. For all his attempts to be moody or grouchy, Vita always seemed to smash him right out of that. But she'd probably get all indignant if he called her a ray of sunshine.

"Your world must be a very... odd, but nice place."

"Odd... we had something kind of similar to that happen, once," Aibghalien said. "At the very least they had some devices that made them invisible, and a lot of explosives they planted in the castle."

Of course, it had been much weirder for Aibghalien, since his land was strictly medieval-fantasy...

"Not only a pain, but substantially harder to detect than a simply spell of invisibility," he said, scowling as if that were the worst offense of all. "I lost a wall of the castle if I recall correctly, but that happened surprisingly often during the course of the war."

He offered a smile. "I've only ever died once, so I was reasonably lucky in that entire war."

"That is the difference between arcane and divine magic," Aibghalien said. "It is within the purview of the greatest powers of the multiverse to restore life to the deceased."

He could say this without prejudice because it was not confined solely to the gods, though the elves (being immortal) had little need for such things save in the times of greatest tragedy. Nor would the gods restore those who had passed on timely and properly, which was something of a comfort.

"It was a distinctly unpleasant experience, actually, since the person who brought me back was an enemy of ours, who took the opportunity to replace me with a malicious duplicate of myself, while she mind-controlled me and --"

He stopped right there, turning slightly red and far darker of demeanor.

"We succeeded, yes," he said, quietly. Then, to steer the conversation away from the worst thoughts, he added, "And would you believe that was only the first evil duplicate of myself I had to face? Another one showed up almost immediately after... uh, that one was half my fault though."
