Strange Visitors

||Mission complete,|| Stacy's voice rang out through the ship. ||Obs deck returning.||

The mission was a success, and so the away team returned, and the Obs Deck was back in it's proper place.

But, this time, they came back with a few more visitors.

Among the returning crew members stood three strange aliens. There was the ever-dour Revus Lod, the energetic Ippli, and the stoic Commander Rahk.

The Lensmen commander looked around at his surroundings, his expression rather inscrutable at the moment.

Anyone want to say hi to the new arrivals?

Lacus was used to being part of the leadership, but she was fully aware that she was not a member of this ship's command staff. With this in mind, she waited to the side politely until the actual staff appeared to be finished greeting the new arrivals.

She paused for a moment before approaching them. Diplomacy was nothing new to her, but this was an alien race. Naturals and Coordinators were never that different, and she hoped there were things that could tie these two groups together as well.

Hello!" she began, pleasant as always. "I hope your visit here will be rewarding. My name is Lacus Clyne."

"I hope so too," the Commander replies. "I'm Commander Rahk of the Lensmen, and these are Revus and Ippli."

"It's a pleasure to meet all of you." She nodded at each of them with a smile, unsure of their culture's idea of a greeting. "Lensmen, you said?"

"We're an organization established by the GIA to protect it by using the power of the Lenses."

Rahk holds up his hand, showing off the transparent disk-like device on the back of his hand to demonstrate.

"I see," she replied, even though in actuality she had little idea what he was talking about. "If you will forgive my ignorance, may I ask what these Lenses do?"

"They let us alter the laws of the universe in a limited area, basically allowing us to use physics as a weapon."

As an example, he held up his hand, and the Lens on his hand began to glow. One of the nearby Obs Deck chairs rose up into the air, and following the movement of Rahk's hand, began to float around.

Lacus covered her mouth in a gasp of surprise. She had seen a lot of amazing things since waking up on this ship, but it seemed there was always something new to marvel at—watching an alien make a chair float around the room was no exception.

"Oh, wow!" she marveled, following its movement with her eyes. "That's incredible!"

Rahk chuckled slightly. "That's just a small example, but yes, they can be rather impressive."

He gently lets the chair back down, and the Lens ceases to glow.

"They're extremely powerful, but also extremely dangerous. Because of that, whoever had originally created them gave them minds of their own, allowing them to choose a worthy bearer. If a Lens rejects a recruit, it means they didn't have the proper nature to handle its power responsibly."
