It didn't take long for Jayne to acquaint himself with the Drunken Dragon. No in fact from the moment Kaylee told him about it, fate conspired to move him there as swiftly as possible.

Because a drunk Jayne, was a tolerable Jayne...usually.

Drinking deep from his beer he hummed a little song under his breath that would be familiar to the crew of Serenity but likely no one else. In his intoxicated state he even mumbled a few of the words as he scanned the area to see who was about.

"The hero of canton the man they call...meeeeee."

Dean had also stopped in for some drinking. He then frowned at the nearby humming noise, and glanced over at the guy who must be new down the bar.

"Dude, seriously?"

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-11 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean was almost drunk himself, but he scoffed at that, "Not much of a song. Doesn't even rock."

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Dean considered that, and nodded, "Wasn't a riot, no. Nothing like that. Just wanted my ass to save the world. Fat good that did." He downed some more whiskey.

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Hell yeah, why not? Stacy drafted all our asses for it."

Dean then tilted his head at that, "Shiny, Kaylee likes to say that one all the time. You know her?"

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Dean went over some things in his head, remembering her mentioning the crew a few times.

"Yeah, on the Serenity. She's a beautiful ship, beautiful mechanic too." Hmm, curious idle smile to his face for a moment, thinking of Kaylee.

Moment done, he studied him again, "Can't be Mal... Jayne, right? I'm Dean. Man bet she's tickled to have some of you guys awake and around."

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, sure is." He didn't mention his Sunshine nickname for Kaylee, even if yeah it's kind of obvious.

"Uh yeah, Simon was here. I think he got grabbed back though. I know there was a bit of a thing for a while." But Simon hadn't really stepped up, and Dean just didn't expect to fall in head over heels for the sunny mechanic. But he sure did.

"Hey she's awesome that way. Hell, her feeling sad makes a day really suck worse. She should be happy." He never likes seeing her sad, even though it's happened from time to time.

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean shrugged with a smirk and a swig of his own drink.

"Yeah, so what? I'm awesome, she's awesome. It's all good. You know how rare it is to find somebody like that who's that cute AND good with engines too? And I know a lot about engines myself."

He threw a cynical look right back, though his eyes probably seemed like some veterans of Serenity Valley. Here's somebody who's seen his share of hell and then some. Literally in his case.

"Hell, I know that better than anybody. Not like I give a shit. Just be good to enjoy it as long as we can."

Everybody he loves leaves, he knew it. Nothing was gonna change that. Especially here.

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that's me. All sunshine and cherry pie," Dean snorted at that with a wry look, and finished his drink. Time for another beer.

He then grinned a little more, "That reminds me, anybody tell ya about the beer tree in hyrdroponics yet? It's a freaking awesome metal beer tree."

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean smirked even more.

"Not about this man. Gotta be seen to believed I know."

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-10-13 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"City's open again so places for shooting practice too. But yeah, it can get really boring around."

Dean downed his own beer, and got up, wavering only a little.

Jamie had come in mostly to see if Kaylee was about, but it didn't appear she was around right at the moment. So he wandered over, taking a seat next to someone who was singing. At least, he thought the man was singing, although the lyrics were a wee bit...odd.

"Don't ye usually put the hero's name in there somewhere?"
bonnypiperlad: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-10-12 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The note in Jayne's voice isn't hard to hear, but Jamie's not looking for a fight - at least, not yet. In this case, it was simply an innocent question. "Oh! I must have misunderstood ye," Jamie says, amicably enough.

He looks over the other man thoughtfully for a moment. That accent sounds somewhat familiar, but he can't quite place it yet. "Canton, ye said? I've not heard of that place before. Ye must have done something good if ye got a song out of it, though."

And a beer, as Jamie casually slides his untouched ale over towards Jayne. He's thinking that maybe drinking it himself might not be a good idea right about now, just in case things degenerate.
bonnypiperlad: (oh aye of course)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-10-13 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie's eyebrows disappear into his bangs for a moment, but his tone is rather dry as he says, "Oh, aye. I could see where some might be a wee bit upset over something like that. So are ye an adventurer or a mercenary, then?"

He's rather tempted to throw 'pirate' into the mix, but he's not sure that might not be taken the wrong way. Best to leave the question as it is.

Public relations? Jamie's mouth pulls off to the side in such a way to suggest he doesn't believe that for one moment, but all he says is "Ah. Well, enjoy your ale."

He turns away, leaving Jayne to his own devices. Without his own ale to occupy him, however, there's not too much to do, and he keeps glancing over towards the entrance to the tavern. "Och," he mutters to himself after a few minutes. "Kaylee, where are ye?"

It doesn't appear that he's realized that he's said it loudly enough that Jayne could pick up on the words - especially since he hasn't bothered to move from his seat next to the man.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Kaylee laughed as she slid another drink down to Jayne. "You still singin' that? Should at least get a guitar and make a performance out of it. Think we could use some entertainment."
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-12 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hopefully, Kaylee had told Jayne that the proprieter of the Drunken Dragon was rather dragonish himself in appearance. If not, the mercenary was about to find out.

Kang had just entered the tavern in time to hear the mumbled words, and he moved over to join her behind the bar with a grin, "You must be Jayne. Bet Kaylee was glad to see you."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Jayne, this is Kang. He's the owner of the tavern here, and a good portion of the reason folks are still kickin' around the ship. Helps out with a bit of everythin', I'd imagine, also runs the combat classes. Don't think we could do half of what we manage without him."

Kaylee gave Kang's arm a quick pat before grabbing a couple mugs from behind the bar to fill them. "Still am glad to see him, and Wash too."

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-12 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"You give me far too much credit, Kaylee," Kang shook his head, smiling. He turned to Jayne, "She has been. As a whole, we don't have much to call our own on Stacy besides knowledge or stories. Don't worry, she hasn't told me anything too embarrassing about you or the other members of her crew."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not nearly enough," she replied to Kang, picking up the mugs to deliver to one of the tables. As she walked from behind the bar, she laughed back at Jayne. "Naw, I just figured you'd wanna tell the really good ones yourself once you got here."
governorkang: (This is fun / Go fish!)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-12 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Kang snorted, fetching himself a tankard and leaning his forearms on the bar, "I'm not the only one that's doing things around this ship to help. You underestimate how useful you are."

Without Kaylee around, the ship would be a much gloomier place.

"I hear you're a mercenary. You've probably got some good ones to share."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I've got a pretty decent idea of how useful I am," Kaylee promised, handing the beers over to a couple patrons. "No use in paradin' it, though."

Back behind the bar, Kaylee filled her own mug. "More than you might think he does, and then you gotta be careful on which ones you take serious." She's only half-teasing.

The Drunken Dragon, though an inviting sort of place, was not one of Dustin's usual haunts. It was close to his forge and a welcome escape should he require one, but otherwise he wasn't keen to pay Kang and his group a friendly visit, not while there was work to do and not while he had coffee.

Today, Dustin was in need of a welcome escape. For reasons that eluded him—a major part of his dismay—his room had been oddly quiet, there was a certain lack of snarky conversation in which he normally participated, a niche he hadn't even realized he'd created until it disappeared. For reasons that did not elude him he was inherently more cranky at the ship in general, at GLaDOS and her stupid cake more specifically, but mostly at the ship for putting him through this crap. Just everything. Shit.

So a genius walks into a bar...

...and stands by the door, letting it close behind him as he surveys this locale and its vocal inhabitant staring back.

"Scruffy Sonofabitch" was definitely a great description of this one, and actually remarkably similar to the unofficial nickname that his mun has for him. Funny how that happens.

Scruffy McJackass pursued his course and found his way to the, well, bar section of the bar, outwardly stone-faced but inwardly rejoicing in the bizarre irony of the place. It was fairly normal on the inside, if a bit more rustic than Dustin was accustomed, but he felt sure that this interior could be removed and placed within a standard tavern back on Earth without so much a second glance.

The irony came with the giant lizard that owned the place. Completely disregarding Kang at the moment, Dustin turned his attention to the fly conveniently perched with his alcoholic nectar nearby, as there was a bizarre need to seek out the normal in order to complete the feel of the place.

"Haven't seen you around."
