Mission 01 -- Recovery : Planetside: Split up and Fan Out

The door opens to a lush green place. They've landed in a forest glade of some kind. Deciduous in nature, but the leaves are somewhat odd in shape and very, very thick and tall. The grass is a green that's almost a blue.

The sky is blue like a normal sky, but brighter, more vibrant than on Earth. Two moons hang there, so close that they're visible even in the daytime.

The air is fresh and clean-smelling, like after a rain--in fact, the moisture in the air means it may have rained here recently. There's even a cool, light breeze.

Curiously, when they come down the ramp, they'll see that the pod--its umbilical cord spiraling up miles upon miles to meet the ship, floating visibly in the atmosphere--is floating about six inches off the ground.

Kate glanced toward Paco and Tony. Debating. Hmmm... maybe separate teams possibly.

"Wherever you need me."

Blitzwing transforms, lands and promptly shrugs.
"I'll go vherever you vant me to. I am not zat fussed."

Tony sniffs at the air again, "Put me where you need me, but I can probably be a decent scout..."

Javert stood at the back of the group, looking grim. "I will go where I am requested, of course." A set goal, with orders and a purpose, was promising.

"If I've a choice in the matter, m'lords," Geoff said whilst looking around nervously from behind the dubious protection of Javert, "I would like to go with someone I've talked to. The Inspecteur or Dean."

Pause.

"Or Sir Chief."

Yes, Sir Chief.

The Scion xB turned and transformed, watching the crowd and slowly approaching it. He didn't look dubious enough to know what they're talking about, and merely shifted in his pedes and voiced out. "I can go with whomsoever requires my assistance." Needless to say, he didn't mind picking with who to go with, but merely understands the need for this mission to succeed.

Now that Dean's recovered from the vaguely traumatizing events from before, he's standing off to the side, looking ruffled. He looks up when Geoff mentions him, and grins a bit.

"I don't care where I am, but I can babysit Chaucer if you guys want," Dean speaks up, turning his grin on Chaucer to let him know he's just kidding around.

"Okay. Let's start with basics." Dick rubs the back of his neck. "Every team needs a leader and a medic. Cybil needs to stay with Dr. McNinja, so I'd say that's one set right there." Nightwing is nothing if not good at organizing. "Worf has to lead a team to a specific ship, so that's one more, with Leon following him. Captain Picard should probably lead a third team. Robin, Batman and I need to stay together, so that gives us medical and a possible leader." That would be him, Terry. "Which leaves two teams that need to be headed up and four teams that need a medic."

He pauses, thinking it over for a moment. "Okay. It might be best if people who need to stick together go stand by each other. And if people who need to go to specific ships could go and stand in the approximate direction of the ship they need to go to?"

"Doctor McCoy and I are accustomed to working in the field with one another. I would recommend he be assigned to retrieve the same vessel as me," Spock pipes up once more, "It is, of course, at our commanding officer's discretion."

His eyes flash to Picard, with a look betraying perhaps just a hint of amusment.

"I'm used to leading a squad into enemy territory. Compared to what I've been trained for I doubt this will be as difficult." Really. Unless the things here have plasma weapons, the Chief can honestly say he's not too worried. The only thing he's a little anxious about is that everyone else is a non-Spartan, and most of them aren't even military.

"If we knew what the conditions were like in this area, I'd ask to be put in the most dangerous. I can fight very well and I'm extremely difficult to kill, sir. That is no exaggeration. I'd rather it be me than risk somebody else."

He looks at Paco, shown only by the angle of his head. "If the captain says," he tells him.

[identity profile] clear-horizons.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Make it so," Picard replied. "The teams will be split up as Miss Bricker has stated. Doctor McCoy, you will accompany Commander Spock. The rest of you will join as you see fit." The captain then grinned wryly, glancing around and noting the expressions of hero worship among some of the younger individuals present.

"Although I hope none of you are expecting me to retrieve one of these things on my own."

Leon shrugged, and quietly stood by while the rest of the teams were assembled. He at least knew where he was going.

Geoff drifted away from Javert uncertainly, looking around.

"Would it not be better if we were assigned?" he asked Picard as he sort of drifted over to follow Dean around. "Begging pardon, but it seems sensible."

Unimpressed Mal is totally unimpressed. Just by the reactions and the sort so far, he was quickly gathering them as Core of Alliance folk. It was enough to make him snort slightly. "Okay. So. We got six pods an' four teams with th' rest of us left out in th' cold." Hooking his thumbs behind his pistol belt the captain of Serenity sucked on his teeth slightly. "Now I may not be all brainy and book learny but that seems t' me to mean either two teams have t' go twice or you need to pull us folk from th' side lines t' play in this little game."

Taking a few steps away from the people he was standing close to, Malcolm put on the biggest most winningest smile he could manage. "Don't reckon I take to kind to that idea. Six teams means gettin' th' job done faster. So. Anyone who wants t' come with me is more than welcome to."

"I did say we needed another two team leaders," Nightwing says, not looking the slightest bit put out. Maybe it's not quite Batman-level of pokerface, but his is still pretty damned good. "Nobody is being left out in the cold. We're going to need everybody for this to have any chance of working. So if you and the Chief are willing to head up the other two teams, that's more than fine by any of us, I'm certain."

"That's what I'd intended," says the Chief. "If you want to come with me, say something before I start grabbing people. I don't ask much, just keep up, don't do anything stupid, and if I say stop, you freeze. I've been doing this longer than plenty of you have been alive and request that you trust my judgment."

Cass would have very much liked to go with one of the Star Trek people but that would have been very awkward. She knew Kate, they worked well together, and right now she wouldn't feel comfortable having to worry about her friend if Cass didn't know where she was.

She stuck close to Kate and waited for the "adults" to get their act together. She folded her arms over her chest. This might take a while.

Oh, Chief, you are just asking for someone to challenge your authority. Granted, Samus is not the most likely to do something stupid, far from it in fact, but she is the sort that doesn't blindly listen to her commanding officers.

She raises her non-cannon arm, "I'll go with you."

This will end well.

Plays trots over and settles down beside Dean, "I'll go with the paranormal hunter guy here. Maybe we can exchange notes or something."

[identity profile] cowsquirtdrinkr.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll go with Captain Picard, if that's alright."

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm open with joining any team needed to get the job done," Brainiac 5 says. He doesn't really know anyone, and isn't sure who he would work best with in this situation, so for the moment he's willing to leave the decision up to those in charge.

Even if it seems a little up in the air as to who exactly is in charge here.

"However, I am capable of rendering emergency medical assistance if required, so should there be any teams in need of someone with those abilities, it would make sense for me to assist there."

[identity profile] clear-horizons.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Picard assigned everyone to their respective teams quickly enough (with some help from the crewmembers identifying their skills and abilities). With that established, he moved his hand out toward the expanse.

"Well, it seems it's time for us to move out," he said.

Worf has stood by listening to all of this. Good, he would be in command instead of having to follow orders from someone he didn't trust. He again reflexively checked his phaser to insure that it had full power and pulled out his tricorder, frowning as he scanned the area. Of course, he always frowns.

[identity profile] asluciferfell.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Javert stands with his group, arms crossed, and eyeing his new leader. Worf. Javert, out of anybody, should not judge by appearance; still, he was wary. Javert would be wary of anyone given command, though. He was not with anyone he had yet spoken to, either, but he would simply have to endure that, and follow any orders given.

He scowled heavily, as usual, and waited to be given orders.

Paranormal Hunter Guy thinks that's funny, the name, and glances down at Plays. Talking wolf. Right. Just like Bella, except he hasn't called Dean a monkey or something derogatory like that. Dean is pleased.

Reaching out to grab Geoff by the arm and drag him closer, Dean glances at his new team, and grins.

"So, gang, what does a guy gotta do to get some Scooby Snacks 'round here?"
