Mission 01 -- Recovery : Planetside: Split up and Fan Out

The door opens to a lush green place. They've landed in a forest glade of some kind. Deciduous in nature, but the leaves are somewhat odd in shape and very, very thick and tall. The grass is a green that's almost a blue.

The sky is blue like a normal sky, but brighter, more vibrant than on Earth. Two moons hang there, so close that they're visible even in the daytime.

The air is fresh and clean-smelling, like after a rain--in fact, the moisture in the air means it may have rained here recently. There's even a cool, light breeze.

Curiously, when they come down the ramp, they'll see that the pod--its umbilical cord spiraling up miles upon miles to meet the ship, floating visibly in the atmosphere--is floating about six inches off the ground.

"I'm used to leading a squad into enemy territory. Compared to what I've been trained for I doubt this will be as difficult." Really. Unless the things here have plasma weapons, the Chief can honestly say he's not too worried. The only thing he's a little anxious about is that everyone else is a non-Spartan, and most of them aren't even military.

"If we knew what the conditions were like in this area, I'd ask to be put in the most dangerous. I can fight very well and I'm extremely difficult to kill, sir. That is no exaggeration. I'd rather it be me than risk somebody else."

He looks at Paco, shown only by the angle of his head. "If the captain says," he tells him.

"Make it so," Picard replied. "The teams will be split up as Miss Bricker has stated. Doctor McCoy, you will accompany Commander Spock. The rest of you will join as you see fit." The captain then grinned wryly, glancing around and noting the expressions of hero worship among some of the younger individuals present.

"Although I hope none of you are expecting me to retrieve one of these things on my own."

Leon shrugged, and quietly stood by while the rest of the teams were assembled. He at least knew where he was going.

Geoff drifted away from Javert uncertainly, looking around.

"Would it not be better if we were assigned?" he asked Picard as he sort of drifted over to follow Dean around. "Begging pardon, but it seems sensible."

Unimpressed Mal is totally unimpressed. Just by the reactions and the sort so far, he was quickly gathering them as Core of Alliance folk. It was enough to make him snort slightly. "Okay. So. We got six pods an' four teams with th' rest of us left out in th' cold." Hooking his thumbs behind his pistol belt the captain of Serenity sucked on his teeth slightly. "Now I may not be all brainy and book learny but that seems t' me to mean either two teams have t' go twice or you need to pull us folk from th' side lines t' play in this little game."

Taking a few steps away from the people he was standing close to, Malcolm put on the biggest most winningest smile he could manage. "Don't reckon I take to kind to that idea. Six teams means gettin' th' job done faster. So. Anyone who wants t' come with me is more than welcome to."

"I did say we needed another two team leaders," Nightwing says, not looking the slightest bit put out. Maybe it's not quite Batman-level of pokerface, but his is still pretty damned good. "Nobody is being left out in the cold. We're going to need everybody for this to have any chance of working. So if you and the Chief are willing to head up the other two teams, that's more than fine by any of us, I'm certain."

"That's what I'd intended," says the Chief. "If you want to come with me, say something before I start grabbing people. I don't ask much, just keep up, don't do anything stupid, and if I say stop, you freeze. I've been doing this longer than plenty of you have been alive and request that you trust my judgment."

Cass would have very much liked to go with one of the Star Trek people but that would have been very awkward. She knew Kate, they worked well together, and right now she wouldn't feel comfortable having to worry about her friend if Cass didn't know where she was.

She stuck close to Kate and waited for the "adults" to get their act together. She folded her arms over her chest. This might take a while.

Oh, Chief, you are just asking for someone to challenge your authority. Granted, Samus is not the most likely to do something stupid, far from it in fact, but she is the sort that doesn't blindly listen to her commanding officers.

She raises her non-cannon arm, "I'll go with you."

This will end well.

Plays trots over and settles down beside Dean, "I'll go with the paranormal hunter guy here. Maybe we can exchange notes or something."

[identity profile] cowsquirtdrinkr.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll go with Captain Picard, if that's alright."

"I'm open with joining any team needed to get the job done," Brainiac 5 says. He doesn't really know anyone, and isn't sure who he would work best with in this situation, so for the moment he's willing to leave the decision up to those in charge.

Even if it seems a little up in the air as to who exactly is in charge here.

"However, I am capable of rendering emergency medical assistance if required, so should there be any teams in need of someone with those abilities, it would make sense for me to assist there."

Picard assigned everyone to their respective teams quickly enough (with some help from the crewmembers identifying their skills and abilities). With that established, he moved his hand out toward the expanse.

"Well, it seems it's time for us to move out," he said.

Worf has stood by listening to all of this. Good, he would be in command instead of having to follow orders from someone he didn't trust. He again reflexively checked his phaser to insure that it had full power and pulled out his tricorder, frowning as he scanned the area. Of course, he always frowns.

Javert stands with his group, arms crossed, and eyeing his new leader. Worf. Javert, out of anybody, should not judge by appearance; still, he was wary. Javert would be wary of anyone given command, though. He was not with anyone he had yet spoken to, either, but he would simply have to endure that, and follow any orders given.

He scowled heavily, as usual, and waited to be given orders.

Paranormal Hunter Guy thinks that's funny, the name, and glances down at Plays. Talking wolf. Right. Just like Bella, except he hasn't called Dean a monkey or something derogatory like that. Dean is pleased.

Reaching out to grab Geoff by the arm and drag him closer, Dean glances at his new team, and grins.

"So, gang, what does a guy gotta do to get some Scooby Snacks 'round here?"

< I will go wherever I'm needed. I'm willing to give air cover, but if I'm to keep in communication, and have to carry one of those things, I'll need to go by grand. Just let me know > Tobias said.

Wednesday looks at Nightwing curiously. Well, if he's going to be with any group, why not the most—well—mythologized?

He's as curious as to what they'll think of him as to what judgements he'll get to make of them.

Cale, meanwhile, is standing off with his 'assigned team' with his arms folded over his chest and a distinct frown etched into his face at the prospect of being forced onto the same team as the very girl he was trying to avoid: Leela. And the fact that it was her idea--from his perspective--didn't make things any better.

However, he is for once silent.

Paco was going to go on an adventure with Master Chief and Samus. Also, two cyborgs, a super-smart robot, another hot warrior chick, and the guy she was having UST with.

Still hadn't made up for all the brainsluggery, but it was pretty freaking cool.

Jean shook her head and sighed glad she didn't have to wait long to be assigned to Captain Picard's team. She had already moved over to where her team was and was currently looking over all of them.

Captain Picard and Doctor McCoy she'd met... But the others? She had no clue who they were, but it certainly was an interesting mixture.

Elle didn't particularly care what team she ended up on. As far as she was concerned, they could just draw the teammates from a hat. Wouldn't that be exciting? Then they could have a competition to see who gets all the whatchamacallits first!

Despite her previous experience in Company bag-and-tag missions, Elle doesn't really have a professional outlook, especially now that she isn't trying to impress her father. As long as she gets to do something exciting, she's happy - and hell, though she wasn't the outdoorsy type by a longshot, it was exciting just getting to walk around this place.

However, she was feeling more and more willing to get invested in the mission and get it right. Why? Because now she believes she's important. Clearly, some sort of future thing decided she was going to do awesomely, and she didn't want to let the future down (or even worse, not get to do something awesome).

Idly tugging on an oddly shaped plant, Elle suddenly chirps in "I want to be on Captain Suspenders' team!" She grins at Mal, tilting her blonde head to the side. He seemed like he'd be marginally more interesting than any of the other team leaders, who struck her as a little on the dull and uptight side. Being one of the cuter options certainly helped.

[identity profile] notamission.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Just don't tell him he's cute- he already has an ego which would make it grow more. However the 'Captain Suspenders' nick caused his brows to raise before. Mal had been called many things before and that wasn't one of them. Lord help him if she and Kaylee ever got to discussing nicknames for people. He also couldn't help the grin that was sliding across his face.

"Well step on up," the Captain said as he motioned Elle over. "Reckon we get the rest of this group together and we head out soon as we can. What's your name?"

Durr, just realized he wouldn't be wearing suspenders anyway. Whoops!

[identity profile] electricityjolt.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
She beamed, heading over to him. "Elle," she replied, smiling sweetly.

She resisted the urge to add anything to the effect of "you know, the great hero of prophecy". It would seriously detract cool points.

[identity profile] anaturaltalent.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Back home, we just call 'im Cap'n Tightpants," Kaylee tells Elle cheerfully, hands in her pockets, beaming oh so innocently at Mal. She is the picture of innocence. Really. "He don't take too kindly to that sometimes, though. Think he's a bit self-conscious about how much he's got fillin' the pants, in the back end."

You're humped, Mal.
