Girls just wanna have fun [Closed, bendytimed to before Mole Plot]

Nura didn't really want to have an ocean in the sensoriums. Nor did she desire a little river. Something to swim in...but also to be able to relax -- as that was what the doctor had ordered her to do. Back home, there hadn't really been many large ocean to splash in, unless she counts the waters upon Naltor, but even those had been small in size. So she tries to summon to mind an image of the perfect get-away...and she remembers the brochures she'd looked at when she and Querl were planning their honeymoon.

She remembers a place she'd looked at for more than just a little while, and decides that it is the perfect place for her and Katara to relax.

A little while later, the sensorium all made up, Nura, now wearing a very 31st century shiny silver swimsuit, appraises her work. There's a medium-sized waterfall gushing in the distance, pouring down into the large pool of water, surrounded by rocks that could be used like stepping stones.

Katara smiled. "Lucky," she said. "Not that I won't find times to enjoy myself, but I also try to keep an eye on the friends I know on the ship. It looks like that number's getting bigger everyday."

She grinned and started to move her hands in a circular motion, and soon she and Nura were now on top of a spinning funnel, bringing them higher and higher until she had them fall, Katara doing another flip and falling deeper into the water before coming up again.

"I haven't gotten to do this in awhile! This is great!"

Yeah, Nura, if you want to talk, better initiate the conversation: she's losing herself a little in what she's doing too.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Katara's ears perked up. "Oh, I know Ben! Yeah, he seems like a really good guy and I have to admit that I'm kinda sorta trying to set him up with a friend of mine. But trouble? What's going on there?"

She grinned, glad that Nura was getting into this as much as she was. She brought the water toward her took a breath and brought her hands straight ahead of her. The water stayed suspended in the air, and then started to evaporate and leave steam all around them.

"Well," she said, rising back to the surface after a quick dip, "I've also gotten The Outsiders started! Ben's a part of that along with a bunch of other awesome people! I think this could be the start of something really good!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded. "Oh, I have an idea about what boys do to drive people insane. I rode around with three of them for awhile! But they're really good to have around...my boys, I always trusted them."

She was pretty glad to have a chance to soak her own muscles: she'd been through quite a lot in the last few days, and something told her that it wasn't going to get any easier.

"We're trying to gather a team with a family feeling, try go get them trained, and hopefully live up to the old Outsiders. I wish I could remember the name of the old leaders, but I guess as long as I keep the group and the feeling alive, it'll reflect good on them. Ben is there, and so are a lot of my friends. I'm glad that more kids are joining together to take a stand on the ship."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara definitely looked disturbed by the idea of EITHER Aang or Zuko doing something like that. That was just...creepy. "Well antics yeah, but definitely never had that happen with my guys." She grinned. "Actually, they're all on the ship right now. Aang, Sokka and Zuko. If you meet any of them, you'll know they wouldn't do anything like that."

Katara was secretly glad that she could help Nura relax this way: a spa was usually the thing that did the trick when it came to recovery, and they could both use the time to recuperate honestly.

"It was something I felt tat we could all use. Leon had a pretty big thing against teenagers serving positions on the security team, and now that he's ship captain, I want to make sure we have a voice as well as proof that we could band together and help in a tight situation. Also there are some kids here who haven't quite found their place, where they fit in on the ship. I'm hoping to give them that, you know?"

She just hadn't expected it would lead to her being co-leader. That was a bit of a surprise.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
If Katara noticed Nura's smirk (she didn't) she kept it to herself.

"He is a really nice guy, and we've been through a lot together! Unfortunately, he doesn't remember any of it: Stacy apparently pulled him at a different point in time than when I was."

It was still a little bit of a sore point: along with Sokka and Toph, Zuko had become someone she could trust, and she'd never forgotten how he'd taken that attack by Azula for her. She just really wished she could talk to him about all of those things, tell him how happy she was he was on the ship.

She nodded. "I think its a mistake not to include them. They have a lot that they can offer the ship, and the longer we act like we should treat them as kids, the easier it will be for an enemy to attack us by taking them hostage. They need to know what to do in that kind of situation."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Katara tried not to look so sad about what she'd said. It did hurt, but why choose to look at the bad? Zuko was still here, still the only firebender she ever trusted...aside from Iroh, of course.

"Exactly," Katara said. "I don't know if Leon or anyone still thinks like that, but I intend to prove them wrong. We have just as much dedication, if not more. But it needs focus, like anything on the ship. That's why I wanted to get them all together: so we could help each other out whenever we needed it."

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"So then this Leon fellow is the Captain? Interesting." She files that information away on a slide in her mind, for later use. "I'm sure that you and The Outsiders will do amazing things for the youth that are aboard the ship. A central place of acceptance...family...aid...the youth need this and--."

She catches herself, realizing that she's being drawn into serious conversation, and she'd been ordered to avoid just that.

She bursts into guffaws, throwing her head back, and rolling her shoulders. "I'm sorry Katara! This conversation isn't exactly Relaxation Talk of the month, now is it?"

She moves her arms to her sides and slowly lays back against the warm rock. It feels good. "Let's not talk about work. We're drifting into serious business. Let's be..." she makes jazz hands. "...adventurous."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"He can be really overzealous in some ways, but I know its because he does care about people on the ship," Katara said. "But even so, I think the kids need to have a way to help each other get stronger: no one wants to be a victim of the Ohm. I wouldn't be surprised if we get attacked by something that isn't even the Ohm again. It's happened before."

She shrugged her shoulders. "Well, let's face it, we don't really get a lot of time TO relax. Its natural that we'd start talking about some of the things going on. But I figure every once and awhile, something like this really helps."

She raised an eyebrow. "What did you have in mind?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Katara did start here a little, her face reddening. "Am I that obvious? I have no idea!" She was really glad to have him back, even if he was usually pretty busy, but she thought she was hiding fairly well the utter elation that she felt having him here.

"Aang," she said softly, grinning. "You might know him as the Avatar, or the bald monk, but his name is Aang. He'd been fighting to help the ship and the people in it with that Nightmare King. He's actually from my world...and he's the reason I'm as strong as I am today, really."

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe to anyone else, would the joy within Katara go unnoticed. But Nura has an attention for nuance and detail. She's learned to notice things immediately and piece things together from all the bites and pieces of information that she can gather. And as long as the feelings that she sees aren't concerning her...she can tell them apart.

Her brows rise. "I'm guessing 'Avatar' is something incredibly important where you're from."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Katara nodded. "You know how I can waterbend, and that there are other benders, like fire and earth? Well, he's all those and an airbender the last one in our world. He's the descendant of the Avatar, a person chosen to bend all four elements and bring balance to the world. Back in my world, Aang was revived after a hundred years of sleep to find his people exterminated and our world at war. He saved us...and me. He was brought here older than when I last saw him, but I can tell its still the same boy I've always known."

She smiled to herself.

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"So then...he's pretty important," Nura says, not at all sounding moved. Of course, she's teasing.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded, sinking into the water a little. "That's an understatement, at least as far as he and I are concerned. He's the reason I still had hope in my world, and he still gives me hope now. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for him...including waiting for him to come to me."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She nodded. "He is, and he's pretty special to me. A little while ago if you told me I'd find the person I cared about most to be the Avatar, I would have told you that made sense, since he would save the world. I just didn't know I'd fall in love with him too."

She blushed pretty badly, so badly in fact that she actually had to step outside the spa a bit to cool down. "Not back home, no. When he first was released onto the ship, we...well, we were really glad to be with each other again, and we got pretty close. We also forgot we were on Stacy though, and well, we got hosed down: literally."

It still made her skin dance, remembering that day.

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was going to say...gone on a date...but you are that far in your relationship?" HA! She's got you there, Katara. Nura finds Katara's reactiom to her question on the concept of "it" a little amusing, but also quite cute.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara turned her head, suddenly overcome with embarrassment. "Ok, I couldn't feel any more stupid than I do right now," she muttered. "I haven't told anybody about this, honestly. I just wish we had more time to be with each other."

She admitted it to herself: she'd been curious about what would have happened if Stacy hadn't stopped them.

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nura laughs. "No, you shouldn't feel stupid. Sex is a perfectly normal thing to think about." Keep in mind, this is a girl from the 31st century, where there aren't so many taboos. Well...not after the Legion got through with the galaxy.

She smiles softly. "And it's perfectly normal to want to spend time with the person you love."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Katara shook her head. "It's all really new to me. I mean, I've had crushes on guys before but they never really meant anything. I was looking for something romantic, I just never knew what I was bargaining for when I met Aang. Those feelings...they feel frightening, but in its own way, right."

She smiled to herself. "Part of me hates waiting...I mean, its been so many months since I could finally see him, and a part of me is so frustrated that with all I'm doing, I'm not with him. But...he's the Avatar. He'll always BE busy, he'll always be saving people. It's one of the things I love about him."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Katara smiled. "If it were that easy, I could do it. With all of the things we have to do, I wonder if there isn't something I should give up on...but I think I'm beginning to understand what this might take."

She smiled to herself. "But enough about me, I'm still trying to figure that out. How about you and your husband?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Katara put her hand to Nura's shoulder. "I know. Waiting for the person you care about is torture, and Aang and I aren't even married yet. It must be really hard for you. I'm sorry."

She gave the older woman a look of almost serene inquisitiveness. "Tell me about him."

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Nura drags her hands across her face, smiling lightly. "When I first met him, I thought he was a nasshat. He insulted my innate racial gift, and the nickname 'Precognitive Flake' didn't help me warm up to him either."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Katara, who had already met Brainy on the ship before and had never heard the expression "nasshat," still understood exactly what Nura was talking about.

"I've met the Brainy on the ship before, I can definitely see that," Katara said, rolling her eyes. "So what changed your mind about him?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
Katara understood immediately. In a way, it reminded her of Aang: when he first came out of the iceberg, she couldn't help but be drawn to him, see the world as he did, and gradually she realized that he cared about every place he was. The longer she spent with him, the more she wanted to really understand the things he went through, to help him whenever she could.

And gradually, that brought out her true feelings when it came to him too.

"So there was always something there," she said. "When did you both realize it?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
She smiled. "I get that. I've seen how some people's presence can make everything different. There have been times where I was scared too: we were trying to stop a war, and the people after us were willing to kill us. Still, I know that Aang would fight for us, and he would do anything to save us. Querl sounds...amazing, actually."

She smiled. "We're both kinda lucky that way, I think."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
She started to paddle around Nura now, smiling. "But tell me more. I think I might actually start to see Brainy in a different light, the more you keep talking about your husband. When did you realize that you two were meant to be?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara smiled. "That was what I meant. I have to admit...relationships on this ship are pretty hard. Most of the time, people are trying to adjust and there's no time to care about anyone with all of the fighting and training required. But I've seen it. Nanoha and Fate, Negi and Sasami, Setsuna and Konoka...I know it can happen, and I want it to for us. I...I love him. And I know that one day Querl will come from a pod sleep. He has to, because I don't believe anyone would leave their partner in a place like this without them being there."

She clenched her fist. "For me...I'll do whatever I can to help people on the ship. I just hope I can be with Aang during it all."
