Striking Freedom [Open]
Kira was thoroughly exhausted from the week's training with the Rogues, but rather than going to his quarters to hop into bed, he almost always went down to the hangar where his Strike Freedom stood, armor inert.
The young pilot stood there for a long while, looking up at the mobile suit in contemplation. They'd been hard at work tuning them up so that they'd be able to fight on the same level as their X-Wing counterparts and soon would be physically overhauling them to increase their output. This was what they'd have to rely on for their survival... for their strength.
He was rather lost in thought, which probably made for a perfect opportunity for someone to come along and snap him out of it.

"Kira? You okay?" she asked, trying not to startle him.

"Ah... I'm fine. I guess I was just lost in thought."

Her gaze turns up to the Strike Freedom in front of them.
"Things are hard right now, especially with what we have to face, but we can't forget that there are others in the same boat. Everyone wants to protect this ship and the people on it. Dwelling on things won't help with that."

"None of us will be able to protect everybody on their own."

Cagalli missed Orb fiercely, she wouldn't deny that at all. In fact, she'd be the first to admit it. It wasn't just her country, it was the people she watched over and governed, the scenery she was so used to, the ideals that she worked so hard to uphold. It was also her father's legacy to her. She'd bring it back.
As hard as it was, she had to accept what happened. The more time she spent with the Rogues and the people on Stacy, the closer she was to doing that. A part of her wasn't sure she wanted to, though, despite the need to.
"We're so focused on what we've lost, we tend to ignore what he have here. I mean, I know some of us are luckier than others. It's a hard thing to ignore, but the fact is we're alive. We've got a chance to fix things, right? Everyone will get there eventually. Right now, a genuine smile is a rare thing, isn't it? I think we need to work towards more of those."

"Cagalli... you're right," Kira said after a long moment's thought. They were lucky enough to have each other here, weren't they? To be with the people important to you, even when you'd lost everything else - it made it bearable. "When you think about it, just being here is lucky for us. Whatever's ahead of us, we have the chance to overcome it."
"That's a chance we've been given, and we can't waste it feeling sorry for ourselves."
no subject
"Good, I'm glad you agree," she said. "Also, I know you're really intent on getting things to work with the mobile suits, but you should come take a break. We could grab something to eat... not that it'd be any good."
no subject
He couldn't help but return the half-smile. "That isn't a bad idea. I don't think I've eaten since breakfast."
