The shadier parts of town

Finally, night had fallen. Stalking some of the less... friendly parts of the town was a lone vampire. She was looking for heroin or opium- more specifically an addict. A fine needle like that would not be able to pierce her skin, and any other method was ineffective. She had to take the blood from someone that had the drug in their blood.

No, she was not an addict. That was one of the benefits of being a vampire. They did not gain addictions. Their body was too busy constantly repairing any damages and undoing any changes.

She just loved the rush of euphoria. It was something those she drank from got to experience every time she drank. Why should she not feel the same every so often?

And so she wandered among these shadier parts. Who knows who- or what she might run in to?

"I did it because she deserved her revenge," Alessa said plainly. "I am a demon, of course I did it partly for me. But that child was robbed of everything that was precious to her, and in the end, they barely left her with a life. I was more than happy to make those filthy people pay."

She said this matter of fact. "But when I finally did get her revenge, I should have faded away, and instead found myself on the ship. I don;t understand what my purpose is, being here."

Alessa shook her head. "You misunderstand. When I finally reaped the revenge I sought, when I killed all of those chaotic people, Alessa and Sharon became one, and I disappeared. It was over. I shouldn't be here. I should have ceased to exist."

She looked down at Nanashi's hands. "It's upsetting. I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing on this ship."

Alessa would never allow herself to look troubled. If anything, the demon girl was in that rare grouping of "line facers" on the ship: her expression was usually impassive. "I am not consumed by thoughts of revenge agaist the Ohm," she said. "These people on the ship lost their homes, and they are angry about it. I lost mine, but I don;t necessarily feel sorrow or rage. If its possible I can fight the Ohm, all the better for me, but what is my motivation for fighting them?"

"Avenging all of the children on all of these worlds that did not make it to this ship. All of those that those bugs ripped apart," Sam replied as he made his entrance. He had smelt blood and followed it. When he found these two, he wasn't particularly surprised. He dropped down from the rooftop to a crouch. When he stood, he brushed the dirt off of the knee of his trousers and buttoned his blazer. "Sorry I'm late," he said, nodding to Nanashi.

Alessa watched for both reactions: one from Sam, the gentle vampire, and then from Nanashi, the vampire that was not afraid to get her hands dirty. The three of the, it seemed, had something in common: children were the focus of their protection. Alessa had an idea that despite this, she might be still a darker person than either of them, but this information she kept to herself.

"The threat of the Ohm is nothing to take for granted," Alessa said. "They are the most dangerous of any enemy we would have ever faced. Even now we are being lulled into a false sense of security. So eat, the both of you...I have to kill. It is important to gather our strength."

Sam understood the implication in Alessa's words and shook his head a bit sadly. "I'm no warrior. I'm a doctor. My older brother is much more of a warrior than I am." He glanced around at their surroundings. He found the sources of the blood easily enough. One was Nanashi's handiwork, and the other had to be Alessa's. He remembered the latter's interaction with that young girl vampire, and swallowed.

He strode closer to Nanashi. "I have good news," he said to her quietly. "I've managed to acquire quite a bit of animal blood, enough to keep us satisfied for a while. We will still need the slop for our primary source of food, but it should keep things calm for us." Calm he said, but the scent of fresh blood was a bit overwhelming for him. His fingers twitched slightly.

Physiology. Feeding. Blood. These were things Alessa understood someone like Nanashi and Sam needed, but for a demon like Alessa, the truth was a bit more complicated. The talk of blood she could understand easily enough. Different things consumed things in their own ways.

"I feed on chaos, death...that is why I went to this away mission. Killing random people in allies is not how I usually work. I'm in the fight, crushing, ripping, destroying the enemy. I cannot do that in secret. If you can do this on the planet, good luck to you. But I would wonder how that might sit with those security people on the ship."

"Of course. I could get some from willing donors easily with the right equipment. I'll need a little time to get it." He looked at his watch. "We don't have a lot of time until we have to get back to Stacy. Whatever we do we have to do it quickly.

He lowered his voice so that others around wouldn't hear. "So we'll have to have our meal here before we go." He glanced around, sensing out his own target. He found a young woman, clearly over 18. He hoped there wasn't anything truly heinous in her system. Her forearms were heavily tracked, but a bit old. With any luck, she'd been scared off the harder stuff into something a bit lighter. It was clear she was drunk, at least.
